Happy National Coffee Day :)

coffee 2

Today just happens to be
a day honoring coffee
so pull up a chair
I promise to share
the aroma is enticing
with no overpricing
there are coffee fixings, too,
of course, don’t overdo
it’s free; won’t cost a dime
so if you have the time
and you’re feeling so inclined
enjoy some java and some peace of mind 🙂

Something to Say

I have a thought
anxious to be said
it’s been lingering for hours
inside of my head

It’s a very kind thought
I’m sure you’ll agree
so sit right down
and listen to me

It comes with words
to warm your heart
but listen intently
they’re not the best part

They’re only a fraction
of what this thought is
the words unsaid
you don’t want to miss

First let me just say
I appreciate your patience
sitting there nicely
attentive and gracious

Yet fearing a blunder
after all this preparation
I’m feeling distraught
with much exasperation

So I say with regret
and embarrassment this day
my thought, so important
has somehow slipped away!

Join me for Coffee? :)

Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Evening!

heart latte

I’m deviating from my normal poetry posts, but I hope you join me in a caffeine toast.  Come on over, pretend we’re sitting around a table, in a cozy cafe or coffee house, watching the sun shine or listening to the rain drop against the windows. We hear the murmur of voices around us, as others catch up on years past or on yesterday’s events. By the way, this is very casual, no formalities, just fun and relaxing. 🙂

So, let’s talk coffee…what’s your favorite? I never used to be a coffee drinker, until a couple of years ago; with a little help from my friends, I grew to love any kind of lattes. I’ll also drink regular coffee, but it needs a little sweetness.

Okay, you’re probably wondering if this post is all about coffee…well, not really…but it’s a great ice breaker, don’t you think? And just so you know, I’m not editing this too deeply…it’s as though we’re talking, you and I. 🙂 I felt like simply chatting and I also wanted to share a little something I experienced a few days ago…

I woke up feeling extremely happy. I know, very original. 🙂 For those of you who read my previous post, you know my family is happy about our daughter’s college graduation last night and beginning her next chapter in life. Then our son will be graduating from high school in two weeks and moving on to college in the fall, as well.  So I do have reasons to be happy, but there are also matters in the mind to keep the worry meter running.

Regardless of all that is happening, I felt such a deep, physical and weightless sensation, not an everyday occurrence. It was like walking on air, waving arms and all, ready to shout out, “Hey, World, I’m feeling really happy today!”  I can already imagine reactions! 🙂

walking-on-air

Well, it happened; a very real feeling of euphoria and it was awesome!  It’s really hard to explain and come across in somewhat of an intelligent manner, and one that is rated G.  🙂

But you see, my point is this post isn’t just about coffee and artificial stimulants; it’s about natural “highs” and how we can simply be happy for no apparent reason! Maybe in my dreams (that I don’t usually remember) I was thinking of one of these exciting events, which caused me to wake up feeling an extension of the excitement. Who knows?

However, can’t we be happy about the small things, too?  Like noticing my hydrangeas blooming (thanks to hubby), enjoying the sunshine, receiving a complement from someone, getting a “kiss” from a much loved canine?  🙂 I believe even small miracles are all around us if we open our eyes to them…

I suppose I felt like sharing some inspiration, but conversations are meant for many voices, so I’d love to hear from you, if you have the time…have you experienced this before?  Or do I sound absolutely crazy? 🙂

Well, thanks a “latte” for stopping by and with all silliness aside, I truly do appreciate all of you who visit my blog. Without you, I wouldn’t have made it to a year and a half of writing, reading, learning and making new wonderful friends!

I’ll end now with a little “Happy” inspiration from one of my oldies…

“Your life will be changed and you’ll feel truly blessed,
When you look real close, you’ll find Happiness”

P.S. It appears I really love happy faces!  🙂 (oops)

Who Knows? :)

question mark

There’s no point to this poem
just something to do at home
passing a little time
with a few silly rhymes
you know how it goes
everyone knows
putting pen to the paper
cleaning house to the later
adding laughter and smiles
good for many miles
chatting about that
sharing coffee with Matt
  acting like a chef
cooking with Steph
always busy, not idle
running errands with Michael
I have to be true
  there’s so much to do
it’s been delightful
not frightful
simply entertaining
while ascertaining
though nothing is wrong
it’s time
to say
so long!

Bananas (reblog) :)

Swinging from the chandelier

I’m overwhelmed from toes to ear
I know it’s time to walk the frog
Can’t just sit, type and blog
I’d love to dye my hair bright red
Did you hear what I just said?
Reaching for the coffee cup
Time to fill and pet the pup
In the wind, I feel so free
Would you like a cup of tea?
I’d love to swim and read a book
It’s five o’clock, what shall I cook?
Staring at the vacuum cleaner
I wonder why the fish are meaner
Planets aren’t aligned, at all
Let’s go shopping at the mall
I could talk and talk for miles
but only if you share more smiles

(I need a dose of “silly” today, how about you?)

The Untimely Muse

Letters float with clouds in the sky
while it’s vital that I focus and drive
Inspiration has its own timing
and it’s not always perfectly aligning
I’m not penning while watching the road
yet, containing my thoughts in some crazy code
and just when I felt they were safely concealed
they drifted away on kite’s tail over field

Arachnophobia Fun (If You Say So) :)

Last night, I was driving to pick up my son and noticed a police car behind me, no worries, except that I was in my pj’s!  All was good. Soon after, I watched a spider gracefully crawl across the windshield in front of me INSIDE the car! For those of you who know me well, know that I’ve grown up with arachnophobia. However, I’ve matured, really, I have.  Although, I didn’t want the darn spider dropping on me as I was driving! BIG distraction (next to cell phones)!

So, while trying to focus on oncoming traffic, the cop and the spider without crashing, I began having a hot flash! Yikes, well, turning in the nearest left turn lane, I killed the spider, as it became too close for comfort (sorry to whomever).  I wanted to get out at the gas station and throw the tissue away, but realized I had my pj’s on.

Instead, I tossed the trash bag (sure the spider was in it) to the back of my crv (great shot) and continued on my journey to pick up my son. The funny thing is I always keep the windows closed up tight and the creepy crawlies still manage to get in and torment me! I just have to say….why me? 🙂

I wrote this poem when my phobia was most apparent (many years ago)!

Laughing Spiders

Why did God create
creepy, crawly things
I still don’t understand
all the goodness they bring

Some I don’t mind
they’re actually okay

but spiders are bugs
I honestly hate

They creep around
in places I don’t know
with every little leg they have
they’re always on the go

In the kitchen, in the closet
in my bedroom, too
no matter where, they startle me
as if they’re saying, “BOO!”

I’ll have to tolerate them
although I have some doubt
I’ve only one request
that they just stay OUT!

Have a wonderful (creepy) weekend, Everyone!
