About Me

Hello and Welcome to Baydreamer where I thread words together from every stitch of life in poetic form, memoir, and fiction. California is my home where my husband, Matt, of thirty-four years, and our chocolate lab, Copper, reside; we have two grown children. I have authored two collections of poetry: New Day, New Dreams (2013) and Finding a Balance (2015), and my latest book, More than Coffee: Memories in Verse and Prose was published in September of 2021. My poetry has been included in several anthologies and and published at Spillwords.com. I am currently working on another poetry collection to be released around Mother’s Day.

My writing projects are sometimes serious – drawn from painful subjects and raw emotions – or they spotlight my silly side – pulled from humorous moments. I am inspired to write about family, love, loss, and nature – the marvelous wild world that surrounds me: the smell of the woods, the sound of a babbling brook, and the chorus of birds singing. Recent backpacking trips with my husband along the California coast and Sierra Nevada mountains have stirred up thoughts to pen about fear, loss of friendship, overcoming challenges, nature, of course, and the possibility that anything can happen. Hikes along the Paper Mill Creek remind me that life is fragile. From trout hatchlings to swallowtail butterflies, I marvel at how the world is interconnected and every living thing matters. I hope you will find a little nugget of delight, comfort, or understanding in my poetry and stories – some detail that resonates with you beyond my words.

Thanks for stopping by and see you on the trail,

Lauren ❤️

  1. Hi! Great to meet you and Copper today…I think you’re the first poet I’ve followed and I look forward to having a poem to brighten my days Thank you…(did you see my email about the correct link for my blog?)

    1. Thanks so much for following and I just got home from work, so I haven’t seen your other comment, but I’ll look for it. I write about life, from the heart and a lot of romance, just so you know! 🙂 I hope you do enjoy and I look forward to getting to know you, too!

    1. Hi Sharon,

Thanks so much for thinking of me, but I stopped accepting awards awhile ago due to time constrictions with family, job, and trying to keep up with reading other blogs…I hope you understand, my friend, and Congratulations to you, too! Hugs!

    1. Thank you so much! I appreciate this honor, but I have to be honest in saying I haven’t been accepting awards for awhile now, due to time constrictions. So, thank you again and I would understand if you wanted to pass it on to someone new…Congratulations to you, too! 🙂

    1. Thanks again, Ahmad, and I also remember that this award is for new blogs with 200 or less followers; I’ve been blogging for almost two years now, so I don’t think I fall into this category. But, again, I appreciate you thinking of me! Have a wonderful day! 🙂

      1. I don’t know abt this rule 😀 and I’ve been blogging for over 2 years now 😀 and Idk how many follower I’ve got 😀 but things are real slow on my blog since I was in the army 😦 so am trying to reconnect 🙂
        u too have a lovely day 🙂

      1. I just visited you and your writing is beautiful with emotion…love it. We all start “at the beginning” so just do what you can. One hint, don’t forget to tag your poems and posts…that will bring more traffic, too. I’ll be back! Enjoy your evening! Lauren 🙂

  2. "Occam Blade"

Your confluence of emotion and perception is palpable in your poetry and from it I can acquire some semblance of quiet. Oh, and thank you too for stopping by my blog. All the best to you…!

      1. Me too! From the heart seems like the best way forwards and it certainly makes for some beautiful poetry that is a joy, and not a labour, to read x

Hello, just ‘found you’ via another blogger – saw your comment – & I’m looking forward to reading your poetry 🙂
    Light & Blessings

    1. Hi Heidi,

I appreciate you taking the time to visit here and to leave all your wonderful comments. I look forward to visiting your blog, too, and getting to know you!

      Hugs and blessings,

      1. I think they both have old blogs that are probably a thing of the past. My daughter’s is a poetry blog, as well, but my son’s is a photography blog. He doesn’t care for writing like us girls! 🙂 But it was his idea for me to start this and it’s really been a great experience.

    1. Hi Pen, thanks so much for stopping by and I’m so sorry I missed your comment! I’m glad you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again, also! I’ll be visiting you soon, too! Take care! xxx

  4. Happy Birthday, Lauren! [reminded by our mutual friend, Deb: http://adamsart.wordpress.com/2014/03/25/happy-birthday-lauren/%5D
Funny how we share common dates [very close anyway]… our First Date Anniversary [5th and 11th of December] our husbands birthdays [27th and 28th February] – and finally our birthdays [25th and 21st March]!
…and they say that star signs are nonsense!!!
My very best wishes for a fulfilling and joyful year! hugs 🙂 xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Marina, and I love how we share similar dates on all of these wonderful occasions…although I know I’m ahead of you in years! 🙂 I’m so sorry I missed your birthday, too, so I’m sending many belated hugs to you and I hope you had the best day ever, my friend! Thanks again and have a wonderful day today, too! ♥ xoxo

  7. I finally was able to get to follow your site after much hunting around.
I wondered why I was following you yet not getting any updates.
It appears I had to actually click on follow on your site, even though I have you in my settings.
Now to get my mate Aussie Ian to follow you.

  8. What a great day to be here! When you are having your 5th anniversary. I have already said happy anniversary elsewhere; but let me repeat it. May this blog become a greater blessing this year than ever before! And may you forever shine through it!

  9. Dear Lauren – sorry to contact you via your blog, but I’m not sure if my emails are reaching you as I haven’t received any replies. I wanted you to check your poem and biog in the Bennison Books poetry anthology in aid of The Book Bus. Could you email me? bennisonbooks (at) gmail (dot) com

I am so sorry to hear about your father. I helped him make his Memory books last year. I have an email to you and hope that you will contact me so I can send that message to you. Wonderful poems!

  11. Hi Lauren! Wonderful to meet you and I look so much forward to read more from you! I love poetry, it´s like a magic potion that unfolds thousand upon thousand of wonderful images in my mind and I deeply admire those who can work its magic! 💕

    1. Hi Sarah, and thank you so much for stopping by. Whatever you read here, I truly hope you enjoyed. 🙂 I’ll head over your way again soon, too. Lately, I posted some festive poems for Halloween, but I touch on romance and nature often also, and whatever else inspires me. So, I hope you’ll return. 🙂 Thanks again, and have a lovely day! 💗💗

    1. Thanks so much for visiting, too, and it’s great to meet you, as well. That’s the best part, meeting new people through friends here on WP. Hope you had a good weekend, too. Our’s was great and busy with our son’s college grad party on Saturday. It turned out great, but now we can relax. 🙂 Wishing you a great start to your week!

  14. Hi there, thank you for dropping and saying hi, I do love meeting new people here at wordpress. I have to say I have met many amazingly brave and beautiful people here.
Looks like you and I are blogging twins both been here 7 years and both having the privilege of knowing Betty.
I started my blog to write out my physical and mental pain after my accident so my blog started off a tad on the miserable side. I hope I have grown now and write poems, stories and even sagas on much wider and happier themes.
I am , as I said pleased to meet you and look forward to reading some of your posts 💜

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Willow, and I hope you enjoy your visits here, too! I started my blog when I turned 50. My son nudged me into trying something different. But I never thought I’d last this long. Although, I’ve taken many breaks along the way, I’m still hooked. 🙂 I’m sure you are writing on happier themes and look forward to reading them. But life isn’t all rosy, so it’s beneficial to write from all emotions. There is always at least one person they will resonate with. Hope you have a wonderful start to your week. 💕

      1. I am glad you said I should still write some darker posts because I do… I also have a rant! But on the whole I can honestly say that blogging and bloggers have saved my life and it still gets me through dark times. I hope you also have a good week and again I say I am very pleased to meet you. 💜💜

      2. Ranting is good! And I’m so glad to read that bloggers and blogging has saved your life. That gives me goosebumps! And I feel the same about meeting you. I’m only sorry it took me this long to visit your corner of WP. 🙂 🌷🌷🌷

  15. Jane Sturgeon

I am so glad you found me, Lauren. Synchronicity in our Global Village (as Grandfathersky calls it) is a joy. I love the picture of Copper ❤ Hugs for you and yours. I look forward to reading your posts. Jane ❤

    1. I am, too, Jane. I’ve noticed you on Eric’s blog and other’s also. That’s the beauty of this virtual world, expanding the friendship circle. Thanks about the photo of Copper. He’s a big baby. Thanks for following and visiting, too. I look forward to getting to know you better. Hugs to you, as well. 💕🌻🌼

  16. Hi Lauren, I can’t seem to get in touch with you via facebook; you’ve disappeared from my friends list too and I’ve no idea how that’s happened. And when I type your name to search for you, you don’t show up. Have you gone off facebook? Ruth got married recently and I wanted to show you some photos.

    Hope you are all well.

    Love Chrus ️xxx ❤️

    1. Hi Chris, I’ve been off of fb for a few weeks again. I’ve been working on a 3rd poetry manuscript and FB takes up a lot of time. My focus has also been on blogging and writing. I’ve seen some of the beautiful photos from Ruth’s wedding, but you can always email me at baydreamer25@gmail.com. I’d love to see more. I actually was in the hospital since Friday but came home yesterday, have more testing this week. I’m glad to be home but things aren’t resolved. I have more testing this week and am staying home from work today. So, now I’m behind on blogging and not really in the mindset for it. Not sure if I should post about it either. Anyway, I hope you’re doing okay and think of you often. Sending hugs and love…

  17. Hi Lauren, Is there such a person as an “ordinary woman?” And then I see “extraordinary.” Possibly every woman is extraordinary on some level. Your “About me” contains many layers that resonate with me. 🙂 I look forward to reading more. Erica

    1. Hi Erica, thanks for visiting here too and I agree with you insofar that every woman is extraordinary. I’m glad you can resonate with some of my “life” layers and I look forward to leaning more about you also. Have a good day. 🌺

  18. So nice to learn more about you, Lauren. There is no such thing as an ordinary person, in my opinion, and a contented life is something extraordinary worth celebrating each and every day. Happy Writing!

    1. Hi Diana, thanks for visiting and I agree with you. Well said! Happy writing too and I just went through some old writing projects today, tossed some, saved others for another time. Sometimes I wish I could finish each one in a night. Wishful thinking!

  20. Dear Lauren, it is a delight to know you here. Your writings come to me as classic as old California might have been before the web age. I felt apart from family, love or loss, the centre of your expression is nature. And nature envelops me too.

    Thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Lauren, nice to discover you via our shared participation in the Wordcrafter 2 relationships anthology! Like you I write about nature, light and dark and practically all my writing includes poetry, even my YA fantasy novel. Poetry is my heart. ❤

      1. Hi Marje, thanks so much for popping in, and it’s nice to meet you also through the anthology. I look forward to visiting you to read more of your poetry, too. Nature always inspires, doesn’t it? 🙂 I also admire all fiction writers because that’s not my genre. So, it’s wonderful that you’ve written a YA fantasy novel. Thanks again, and see you soon! 💕

  21. Hi Lauren,
It’s good to get to know a little more about you. Your thoughts on writing and the subjects that you write about are close to my heart as I write about the same. Looking forward to reading your beautiful writing.

      1. Hi Lauren, I’ve been trying to get my kindle account to open so I can buy your book. But, my account’s locked because my number changed. I hope I can access it soon.
I’m sure I’ll enjoy my visit. I love how you write❤️.

      2. Thanks for looking into my book, Smitha, and I hope you can access it soon too. 🙂 just so you know, it is available in paperback if you decide to go that route. Thanks for your kind words also, and it’s always good to connect with new writers. 💖💖
