Childhood Cabin Haiku

Behind the dark boards
a roaring fire warmed us

those days long ago

 Generations played
cards; ante up, fifteen cents

while lasagna baked

 The haunted cabin
around the corner scared us

entering our dreams

A snow packed staircase
made it easy for our dog
A view from the roof

I have fond memories of our cabin
from my childhood.

It wasn’t fancy or huge, but very, very cozy.
The best of times were spent playing games indoors,
hiking, tobogganing and sledding.
The last time I saw it, the windows were boarded
and I don’t have any old photos.
It was sad to see it that way,
but it’s good to have the wonderful memories
in mind of our fun mountain get-a-ways
that included
family and friends.  ♥

Siblings

She played in a world of Barbies
He formed magical lands of Legos
They created art with crayons
and they both loved reading their books

A sister and brother
who got along quite well
They were friends to each other
It was easy to tell

Still buddies in their teens and twenties
through laughter and tears
They’re a team and always will be
into the coming years

Their alliance has sustained
through the growing, awkward ages
They defend, protect and encourage
through the turning of the pages

All the love that they share,
It’s plain to know,
will never be broken
Our Dynamic Duo

Over the hill and still a kid!

Candles yesterday

Burned brightly for fifty-one

Another life year!

Secret surprises

Gifts of love, hugs and laughter

Celebrating life

My family blindfolded me, yesterday, on our way to my birthday lunch.
Our destination was seafood on the bay, exquisite!
And…the best cheesecake and apple pie, ever! 🙂

I wish you all a blessed and peaceful Monday~xx

A Valentine’s Day to Remember

May we hold close those in our lives
Who touch our hearts
Our husbands, our wives,
Our girlfriends and boyfriends
Our daughters, our sons
and our very best friends
Our sisters and brothers
Our fathers and mothers
Even the furry companions
Who add joy to our days
To those who have passed
We give God praise
for the love they gave
To anyone unmentioned
in this Valentine greeting
We give thanks for your love
For your presence and hugs
Let the Valentine banner be unfurled
And if we could, we’d give them the world

I will be slowly responding to your wonderful,
supportive comments, and then I’ll get
back into the blogging routine…
I wish you all a loving Valentine’s Day♥

A Loving Tribute to Mom 1921-2012

I wrote this poem for my parents in honor of their 57th Anniversary.
They both loved it…

This month would have been their 67th Anniversary; 70 years of being together.
She passed away early this morning, peacefully, with Dad by her side.
She’s no longer in pain and suffering, but we will miss her very much
and Dad lost the love of his life~
This is my tribute to her, a beautiful woman,
who loved her Husband and her three Daughters very much.
She loved this poem, which is why I’m re-posting it in her honor~
“You will forever be in our hearts, Mom”

ONCE IN A LIFETIME

1945 was special for two, a wonderful year.
It was February with memories held dear.
The wintry air enveloped the day,
Hearts full of love warmed their way.

The music played on as the others were anxious,
For the moment beginning was so very precious.
Then turning around, they catch a glimpse
of a beautiful woman escorted by a prince.

Her walk was so graceful down the carpeted aisle,
She wore a dress of white satin and an elegant smile.
He stood there admiring her shimmering beauty
In his Air Force uniform, standing with dignity.

They were blessed with God’s word, the foundation
for their future.
He would guide them, direct them, and lovingly nurture.
Then they turned to their guests as Husband and Wife~
Roles they’ve played for most of their life.

They’ve attained much knowledge with smiles and tears,
Experiences just for them through all these years.
Now 57 years later as Grandparents to seven,
Age ninety-something and healthy, living in sheer heaven.

Is this so rare, a marriage forever?
57years of best friends to each other!
Pour in the crystal and sip the wine,
For this can only happen Once in a Lifetime.

TGIF :)

This is not meant to be
  a true work of art
I’m simply sending wishes
straight from my heart

For a wonderful day today
I’m so glad it’s Friday
It took forever to arrive
but glad it came anyway

So make it the best day
Smile to people you pass
Open a door for an elderly person
Move a little slower and not so fast

Just around the corner
is the much awaited weekend
Enjoy your time with family
and many treasured friends!

HAPPY FRIDAY TO YOU ALL! 🙂
