Tears fall into a pool
on my pillow
while my mind attempts
to join my body
for an evening of rest
It’s not the best night
for a mutual agreement
Instead, my stomach
entertains a live
basketball game
where thoughts dribble
and strategy is weak
The score, you ask?
It’s looking like a blowout
not in my favor
but I now see the sun
peeking into a new day
I’ve made an appointment
to get my attitude colored
I believe highlights of
optimism would be an
appealing change
then I’ll start to pave
a new path and
be on my way

“I’ll start to pave
a new path and
be on my way”
Usually, I need to leave the reader with a positive mind set, Ben! Glad you liked it! 🙂

“where thoughts dribble
and strategy is weak” –Absolutely stunning.
Lauren, you’ve coated the pain here with the beauty of written words.
Aww. your comment makes my day, Uzo! Thank you for your lovely words, too!
excellent, Lauren…and great ending lines . when we can not sleep things have a habit to worsen in the darkness sometimes . love and hugs xxx
Thanks, my friend, and you are so right…it’s amazing how darkness can magnify worries! Big hugs to you! xoxox
This is so lovely Lauren! I love the metaphor in it and as always so beautifully written. It flows perfectly toward an optimistic end/beginning! ❤ HBL XX
Thanks, Chris, it came to me one night when I couldn’t sleep. I had these thoughts and had to get up and write them down, quickly! 🙂 And of course, I had to add optimism! Love and hugs to you! HBL ♥

You’re welcome ^^ Hug
Love the basketball metaphor! And your poem is a perfect example of why I do my “One Sip, Two sip, Three” routine! 🙂
Thanks, Sandy, that metaphor was fun to work with and I understand your need to sip, too! 🙂
All sleepless nights should at least lead to such hopeful mornings. May sunlight abound!

Kathryn

Beautifully written and one of my favorites! Glenda
Thank you very much, Glenda! I’m glad you enjoyed this journey with a happy ending! xx
so nicely done
Thanks again, for your kind words and visits!
You took us down a restless, and even anxiety filled, journey and finished off with a dose of optimism. Lovely 🙂
Thank you, my dear Eric! I usually have to end with hope or optimism…it’s just not in me to not! 🙂
What resonated for me are these lines, and I quote:
“but I now see the sun
peeking into a new day
I’ve made an appointment
to get my attitude colored”
This is a powerful intention indeed and, as you have written in the next line, you would like in open your self to more optimism. This is the way one could rewrite and move towards a new future.
