I wrote this last night, after the humor of this situation kept nudging me…Our dog has been wearing a cone for almost 2 weeks. It’s hilarious and annoying at the same time, so I thought I’d share a bit of silliness, in the midst of the seriousness of life. Maybe you can relate?
I hope you enjoy!
She detested the white plastic contraption
She wondered what surrounded her neck
Pawing, Pawing, then deciding…what the heck!
She may look pretty cute in this new fashion
She found some difficulty with the regular task of
drinking water, eating food, and her sniffing routines
She was unaware she created hysterical scenes
for the bowls were invisible while she wore the “mask”
With it’s daunting width, she crashes, boom, bangs
into walls, doors and furniture, too
Until her leg heals, there’s nothing more we can do
She’s her own ensemble, as she walks, bumps and clangs
It’s a bit silly, but an aardvark she mirrors
The cone covers all it devours
She doesn’t fight anymore: she’s worn it for hours
We all love her still and so do her peers! ♥

Yep those Victorian collar things can cause a stir. Well put.
Hi Doug, thanks for stopping by! We can’t wait to take the cone off, but we’ll survive, until then! 🙂
Aw thats how my puppy was when he was neutered!
Thanks for your comment! Fun times, definitely! I’ll check out your blog, as well!
I love this poem! very well-written. mom! it is really annoying and yet, she is adorable and so naive to it all haha
Thanks, Sweetpea! Yes, it’s an experience! 🙂
I like this jovial account of your dog’s poorly leg,
and I hope that he / she is much better now and
the funnel removed, how they hate those horrid
contraptions 🙂 Have a lovely day today 🙂
Thanks so much, Androgoth, for your kind comment. This was an interesting time…I have to be honest in telling you that she passed away in November…she was slowing down (almost 11) and we knew the time was nearing, but she went a little faster than we anticipated. It’s been tough, but we’re okay…in her honor, we’ll be looking for another dog to adopt (as we did with her) sometime this year..but she will never be replaced as she was pretty much perfect! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and I’ll be over your way soon!
