Can we help in the kitchen?
Can we watch you cook?
I’d rather do this myself
then I stop and look
at the innocent faces
so eager to learn
selfish, no more,
it’s now their turn
Clothes will get dirty
dust will appear
chores never ending
that much is clear
So I say to them,
I’ll play and read books
I’ll teach you to be
great little cooks
For as you grow
and think of your Mother
Just know my love for you
is like no other

I wrote this years ago when my children were little
and spending time with them was far more important
than getting things done around the house. ♥
I hope you’re leaving here with a smile and
I appreciate your visit. Have a wonderful weekend!
Beautiful post my friend. Yes, they grow up so quick. Love the photo too. ♥ Renee
Thanks, Renee! I’m in the process of revising some old, old poems and sharing again. This one brings back good memories and they sure do grow up fast. I know you feel what I do! ♥
Have a wonderful weekend too!
Thanks, Joe! Enjoy!
❤
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your heart, Michelle! ♥
Its so very difficult to define that line between being a woman and a mother. At least for me sometimes.
It’s very difficult, Chatty, you’re not alone, otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this poem. 🙂 But as mother’s, it’s our instinct that tells us when they should win and when we should win. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!
You too, dearest! Have a great one x
So beautiful and sweet 🙂
Thanks so much, Al! It’s fun reliving these memories and looking at their old photos, too! 🙂
Really evocative, Lauren.
Thanks, Jean! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Loved it! Have a great weekend.
Thanks again and you, too! Enjoy those swims, I’m jealous!
The one this morning was divine. Just contemplating one before getting supper ready. I’m soooooooooooooooooo lucky, amn’t I?
Ah, yes you are! Our water here in northern Cal. is cold and sharks tend to enjoy it. Not my cup of tea to swim in, but lovely to visit. Our favorite is Stinson Beach, where we’ve stayed for a weekend getaway. The town is small, but quaint, with fun shopping, wonderful restaurants and just so soothing to walk along the beach and rock hop. 🙂
This is so sweet Lauren. I remember those days vividly as though it was yesterday! Really wanting just to get it done then looking at their little faces! ❤️ Xxx
Thanks, Chris, and your last words are the deciding point…let them do it (if reasonable)…it’s now their turn. 🙂 ♥ xo
I love this Lauren. I still allow Tori to crack eggs, etc. when she asks to help, even though I know i’ll be picking out shell pieces and cleaning up the mess 🙂
Thanks, Scott! I remember these days like yesterday. They grow too fast so enjoy your times with Tori (before you know it, she’ll be 19 or 22! :)) and the mess is worth it, isn’t it? 🙂 Have a great weekend!
This one is awesome, Lauren….I love it! It really brings back memories for me too!
Sending you much love and hugs xxx
Thanks, Deb, it’s fun and surreal looking back…I’m glad you enjoyed this one and have a great weekend! Sending you lots of love and hugs, too! ♥
Tender and lovely Lauren!
Thanks so much, Madhu, have a lovely weekend!
Awww, This is so sweet. It does get messy whenever they help, but it’s worth it.
Thanks so much, Shian, it sure is worth it, especially, looking back…:)
Very nice poem. I’m not married nor do I have kids, but it reminds me with my relationship with my mother. I love it.

LU M
Thanks, Honey, and yes, you are! 🙂 LU2 ♥
Spending time with your kids is much more important than just about anything else you can do.
It really is! Thanks for commenting, Binky! 🙂
How can I not smile, Lauren? Just charming … including the photograph, of course! XO ♥
Aww..thanks so much, Diane! I’m happy you found this charming! 🙂 Sending much love! xo
Clothes will get dirty
Well it is not my fault. The clothes and the dirt are in collusion to make me look bad.
Yep, they are to blame…of course. 🙂
