The World is Broken

The world is broken,

            we are aware,

but being alive on this crisp autumn morning,

what a blessing

                        to behold

and he says,

“The good news

for today is

I love you,

Your heart,

Your mind,

Your soul.”

The world may be broken,

                                    but I am not.

In Good Company

When we stroll through
a redwood grove,
our steps become gradual,
knowing we are in
good company.
We don’t want to rush
the experience,
and we won’t hesitate
to hug them with
wide open arms,
because, why not?
They deserve reverence
for their generosity.
You see,
in their company,
we feel silk threads
of peace
flowing through
our hearts and souls,
centering us.
Any worries
burdening
our minds before
fall to the earth
to be walked upon
and buried.
And we listen
as their leaves
whisper to us
in the breeze,
“Be filled with joy
and do not fret,
for there is no time
for that nonsense.”

Azure Sky

As blue embraces the glow
and pink shades shimmer,
I liberate my worries
then hope delivers.
With beauty so near
of a soothing deep sapphire,
thoughts become clearer.

I attended a painting party sometime ago and this landscape was my first attempt at painting anything, except for walls in the house. The process was so much fun and it was interesting to see the final masterpieces of the other “students.” Not a single one was identical. They were all vibrant and magical in the same color scheme, but included details only distinctive to the artist.
Then recently, a friend told me about Seguidilla poetry, which inspired me to write a poem to pair with the painting. And so, I present to you another first attempt. It’s good for the brain to step out of the box now and then and I hope you enjoyed

Out of Our Hands

Beautiful Blooms June 2011 006

Life’s events
stun and surprise us
some lovely and wonderful
others filled with sadness

Though we search and try
with all of our might
questions remain
with no answers in sight

So we cast our burdens
Let Him carry us through
for only He knows best
in everything we do

We watch our worries
fall to the floor
and feel freedom at last
with no thoughts at war

Our minds are at ease now
a breath of fresh air
Moving forward again
In our pocket, a prayer
