Break Time!

It’s time for me to focus on some things in my personal life, which means a little break from blogging. I’d like to say I’ll be sipping coffee again with hubby in the mountains, but that’s not the case. When life pulls with a firm grip, we get the message. I’m not sure how long this break will last, maybe a week, maybe more. But until I see you again…

Take good care. Keep an open mind, and try to find joy even in tough times.
And thank you for spending time in my corner of blogland.

Mountain Lake Magic 💚

blue nylon walls keep
us sheltered from elements
cozy mountain home

sitting on the shore
sun dips in and out, playing
hide and seek with clouds

kayakers paddle
no destination in mind
adventure awaits

lakeside writing time
inspiration surrounds me
thoughts on conveyer

backcountry hikers
shelter in tent, laughing at
mother nature’s moods

bumble bee jets by
avoids crashing into us
enticed by purple

lizard scurries by
why is she in a hurry?
must be dinner time

we watch chipmunks play
springing from branch to branch, a
forest jungle gym

sun descends behind
clouds, magic in vivid hues
one more miracle

surface shimmers like
diamonds, satin smooth , invites
for refreshing dip

sleepy eyes open
to apricot hues above
new morning marvel

The Blue Down Jacket

The radio belted out “Joy to the World!”
You were a teenage boy, but on this
Christmas morning in ‘75, excitement
buzzed! Your dad watched and listened,
relaxed in his corner chair, but your mom
played Santa, just as jolly! The first time
we met. Do you remember?

You and your dad hiked Half Dome that year,
then…the many trips we booked…
those rocky inclines had my sleeves shaking!
Hiking to Italy Pass, 12,000 feet at the top!
We did it! Trekking through the Trinity Alps,
Thousand Island Lake in the Sierra.
And Mount Shasta!
I kept you warm when the air was ice.

What a team we made, and I couldn’t believe
how beautiful the world could be…

Then with the years your adolescence faded like
my blue dye, but I stayed loyal. Why wouldn’t I?
You are my brother, even still, all grown up
with a family of your own.

Lucky is what I feel because ages ago, I thought
I’d be buried beneath piles of clothes at the bottom
of a bag to be given away.
But mostly, I feel privileged for my significance.
I recall her vividly.
She left this world too young, too soon.

You see, when we hang out,
your memories transport you
to that morning when her laughter was music,
her smile was sunlight,
her energy as vibrant as “Joy to the World.”
You travel to the special place in your mind
when your mom was still in your life.

A Calming Landscape

When the sun ascends
and birdsong fills the mountain
air, when lake water
cleanses every ounce of us,
we are lost in nature’s home.

When the trail leads us
into depths of silence and
mountains touch the azure sky,
when wildflowers paint the land,
all senses become spellbound.

From Fabulous to Flames

We’re home now after another wonderful lake adventure and so grateful to have had blue skies before they turned hazy. Our hearts are heavy; praying for all those affected by over 600 wildfires burning up and down the state of CA, and for the firemen and first responders. Yesterday, the air was very smoky, the worst yet, and the advisory continues through Wednesday. The surroundings are a bit eerie. As more dry lightning is possible for today, our bags are packed because at the top of our street is dry open space. So, we’d rather be prepared in the event that hill ignites. It’s frightening, and I can’t imagine what others have endured who have had to evacuate, who have lost their homes or loved ones. And then think of the animals affected. It’s heartbreaking. We’re keeping all who are in the path of fires in our hearts. In the meantime, we swam in the refreshing lake, relaxed in our site, and did some hiking. It was great to get away, but also good to be home safely. Hope you enjoy these photos (only a few of the many we took; I can’t help but take too many)…

Stay safe wherever you are!

Alluring Altitude

Not a sound can be heard
Except an occasional chirp
And the wind’s whisper
Gliding through evergreens
Protecting from sun’s burning rays

Peace flows through veins
Its gentle movement calms the mind
As fragrance renews all senses

With my love beside me,
Gratitude embodies my heart
Together we stay mesmerized
Sitting on the shore
Watching the dragonflies
And reveling in the melody of silence

We’re off to the lake next week, so I’ll be disconnected from technology.
It’ll be good to get away and unwind in the fresh mountain air.
I’ll see you when I return, and in the meantime, I want to give a Big
“Thanks” to all of you who pop in a regular basis and to those who
visit now and then. All I can hope for is to write a poem or story
that resonates with you, so that you’ll have a special take-away
each time you leave. Thank you, Thank you! I appreciate you so
much! Stay well, stay happy, stay healthy! Love, Lauren

A Rare Jewel

IMG_3648

We sit on the shore
feeling inconsequential
in its vast presence,
watching it sparkle
like a rare jewel
that has just been discovered

The dragonflies attend
in their tiny-jet manner
The damselflies gracefully flit about
with their delicate bodies,
and blue, iridescent wings

Then we close our eyes
as tiny threads of peace
weave into our whole beings,
allowing worries to fall
like the cleansing of raindrops

How fortunate are we
to play a part with nature
in this moment of our existence –
for this point of time will soon transform
into a most profound memory

Your presence
captivates

with awe-inspiring
magnificence

You shimmer from
the brilliance of
sun’s kiss,
a magical vision

Your purpose
conveys nothing
less than
significance

The equation of
all surroundings
offers a perfect
composition
