Welcome to my corner of this wonderful community where I share my poetry, short stories, and occasional photos. My husband and I have been married for almost thirty-five years, and we have two adult children. Our furry family member is Copper, an 80-lb chocolate lab mix, and he just turned 13 years old. I have published two collections of poetry: New Day, New Dreams (2013) and Finding a Balance (2015). My memoir, More than Coffee, was published in 2021, and my recent publication is a poetry collection titled Ever So Gently released in July. I have finished my first children’s book and am working with my illustrator with plans to publish in 2024. Hiking with King Copper

Our heat wave finally ended. It’s warm, but beautiful and bearable. So Copper and I ventured out into the sunshine, beginning with a short drive of about 15 minutes. Then we hiked uphill (about 25 minutes) to our first stop, where one of us had a treat. Can you guess who? 🙂 We then hiked onward to our final lake destination. It’s about a 6 mile round trip hike. (Keep in mind, these photos were taken with my iPhone and the photo of Copper lying down came out a little blurry, but I thought it worth sharing, anyway.)

At the end of our adventure, I tried to get photos of us, but it was difficult synchronizing our smiles. What you see turned out a little funky and maybe, classic, with Copper’s cooperation! 🙂

Dizzy in my head

I was cleaning up the dishes from dinner,
listening to a cd our son had made for us
and this song started playing.
My hubby came in, took my hand
and we danced in the kitchen.
I know this sounds corny
and we sound old, but we’re really not that old!
We both love to dance;
we used to go dancing all the time,
bk (before kids). Needless to say,
it’s been awhile,
so this was just a nice moment. ♥

“You make me smile like the sun, fall outta bed
Sing like a bird,
Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record,
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like fool,
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold,
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild

A Day at the Park

It was cloudy and misty
in the morning, but the sun joined us a littler later
and it was a fun, relaxing way to spend a Saturday.

Are you ready to smile?
How about a chuckle?
Say bye to the blues
and all your troubles
Forget your laundry
It never ends
So what’s the point
Call up your friends
Leave technology
it won’t forsake you
Its devotion is solid
and so very true
Shed the comfort coat
Give life a try
Reach with your “All”
You may touch the sky
Now dance around
for everyone to see

Someone Like You

Here’s another musical intermission featuring Adele…
It’s a tearjerker, so make sure you have tissue nearby.
For those of us who have had our hearts broken,
this is one song we can relate to.
What amazes me is this performance is only her and the piano.
The ending is honest and emotional.

Morning After (Re-post)

Sun spills in

through billowing curtains

gently, though,

so not to startle dreams

Sated bodies delight in

love tangling

Sheets silky soft

caressing skin

nothing can compare

to this moment

that shouldn’t end

but we bid farewell

to moonlight

knowing we have sunlight

to share
