To The Quail We Go!

My husband and I recently attended The annual Motorcycle Gathering at The Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel, CA. This location is prestigious and absolutely gorgeous. The guests are directed to park on the fairway, and the system is a well-oiled machine. With my husband being a motorcycle enthusiast, going to this event for him is like me perusing a book store! But I enjoy it too, and this time was our second year. It’s interesting to see the variety of bikes, custom, vintage, even scooters, for adults and for youth. The unique styles definitely exude the Wow factor, but the beautiful colors are also appealing. There are some real beauties, along with some wild bikes. I hope you enjoy the visuals!

Very cool!
Who are these people?
Best of Show!
Cute little mini.
Nature always finds herself included.

And a photo from one of our past rides…

And to close, I wrote a Double Ennead poem about our experience, and this is my first try at this poetry style.
I learned about this form on Balroop’s blog and her lovely poem, “The Last Kiss.”
You could say mine is also about love, but a different kind – a love for riding in the wind.
A Double Ennead is a 99 syllable form, comprising three stanzas of syllables (6, 5, 11, 6, 5).

A Motorcycle Gathering

Beautiful bikes admired
aesthetic differs
but enthusiast’s passion runs parallel
Like-minded people walk
the lavish, green grounds

breeze swirls around faces
sunshine drops in now
and then, but scarves stay swathed, blowing in the wind
bikes glisten for adults
mini styles for youth

engines roar in distance
friendships established
though strangers when doors open, stories disclosed
history respected
a valued event

Thank you for dropping in, and “let us journey among redwoods, seacoast and rolling hills, drawing in breaths and exhilarating thrills.” ❀️

      1. My dad liked any kind of vehicle and would buy and sell them after reconditioning as one of his many hobbies. He was a businessman by trade and member of the local government council most of his life I can remember as a child watching him give it a go on the motor cycle race track and come in last. LOL

  2. I love Quail Lodge and your fab photos with your great and courageous spirit. This sounds like me and my hubby only his would be baseball cards “With my husband being a motorcycle enthusiast, going to this event for him is like me perusing a book store” 🀣
Unbelievable pics of the bikes. Your poem is so awesome and love the flow and joy in your well crafted words Lauren.. You could ALMOST recruit me as a rider but I’ll take a pass..
Glad you had a ball! πŸ’—

    1. Thanks for your wonderful comment, Cindy! And for your kind words about my poem too. I’m happy you enjoyed the photos, and you cracked me up about the baseball cards. We all have something that holds our interest! No riding? That’s okay. I ride once in a while with my hubby, but not as often as I did when we were younger. πŸ™‚ But I can appreciate the freedom feeling when on the bike, especially riding through the back country roads that are so relaxing. Thanks again! πŸ’œπŸοΈ

      2. Oh wow! I just saw your reply! I’ve fallen behind here due to work!
So, it was you!!!!! I just saw the sale.
Thank you so much, my dear friend!
I actually had you in mind when I was designing it! I can’t wait to hear your impressions when you receive it!
        Love and a huge hug!
Happy -rest of- Sunday and week ahead.

  3. My husband is also an ardent motorcyclist. We have been to a number of these events and enjoyed them. We’ve ridden our Honda Goldwing all over the Pacific Northwest, Arizona and New Mexico, England and Wales. He still rides his motorcycle here in Spain but I stay home with the dogs and write books! The poem is great.

    1. Wow, Darlene, you guys have gone on some amazing trips! We used to ride more before the kids were born, so a long time ago. I don’t ride as often because like you, I’m busy writing and working on the current project at hand. Our joke is we ride and write! But we do enjoy relaxing day trips, especially riding on the back country roads in our area. He rides with buddies for longer trips, and I’m fine with that. πŸ™‚ I’m glad you liked the poem too. Thank you, and I’m happy this post resonated with you. Happy riding and writing! πŸ₯°πŸοΈ

  4. There was a time we loved our motor bike. I have some lovely memories of riding with freedom, flying with the wind! Thanks for sharing this awesome post, with vintage bikes. What fun! it’s obvious from the poem you’ve written how inspiring the event was! I am delighted to hear that my poem gave you the nudge to write a double ennead.

    1. That’s great, Balroop! I’m glad you understand the freedom feeling. And I’m glad you enjoyed this post and my poem. Thanks again for the nudge, and I’m going to try more of the double ennead form too. Have a good weekend. πŸ₯°πŸοΈ
