Dear Family and Friends,
It’s been a week since my last post featuring my Dad and that was a fun write-up. Other than that, inspiration since my holiday poems has been scarce. In addition, I’ve been sick since January 1st, which hasn’t helped. Luckily, the first three days when I was in bed happened to be the end of my holiday vacation, so I didn’t miss any work and I managed to enjoy the last part of my family’s visit.
I’ve been able to work since last weekend, but am still not 100%. I’m plugging along. From the flu, to a cold, then one and now both eyes infected, I haven’t been online all that much. A little of reading blogs and a little on facebook, but I still have low energy. I’m not asking for sympathy, either, just my way of saying “hello” and letting you know what’s going on in my world and wanting to know how you all are doing! 🙂
So, Happy New Year, once again, and now that the new year has commenced, what are your thoughts on resolutions?
Have you set new goals for 2014?
Do you view resolutions as new challenges or added disappointments?
Well, my first goal is to get well! 🙂 But I think I have to let it run it’s course and keep my spirits up.
My second goal is to continue on the marketing of my 2013 book, “New Day, New Dreams” with my first poetry reading being a great opportunity on March 31st.
One of our local libraries has been very nice to work with me and I am excited, along with being very nervous. However, I have wonderful tips and advice from my good friend, Julie at http://juliecatherinevigna.wordpress.com. So I believe if I follow her words of wisdom, there is a smaller chance I’ll fall flat on my face. 🙂
My third goal is to get in better shape by shedding ten pounds I found last year. Once I’m feeling up to it again, Copper and I will continue to do our power walks so we’ll both be happy. (Thanks to my family for keeping him happy while I’ve been ill.)
I’ve also heard many great things about Yoga, so maybe I’ll incorporate that into my routine, too. Any Yoga thoughts out there?
I’m turning 53 this year and as I get older, I want to challenge myself. I’m not a fitness guru, like my good friend, Renee, http://positiveboomer.net, as she continues to amaze me with her energy and devotion to treating her body right with exercise each day. Not to mention how fabulous she looks! However, I do want to stay active for my health and personal well being.
And later in the year, I’ll be working on my second collection of poetry. Other than these, I hope to continue writing poetry that you enjoy and also to try some new forms (out of my comfort zone).
A big event I’d like to share is the 25th wedding anniversary for my hubby and I, coming up on January 21st. We can’t believe 25 years have gone by; 26 of being together. Although, since I’ve been sick, our vacation plans might have to be postponed and that’s okay. Every day is a celebration, as long as we’re together. ♥
In closing, I’ll leave you with some words to ponder…
finding humor in tough situations tends to relax our brains and bodies.
Getting a cold in the nose
is okay, I suppose
but a cold in the eye
is not okay (sigh)
Dealing with the flu
isn’t fun to do
being chilled in the house
isn’t good for the spouse
But these germs will go
this I know
so let’s focus on Friday
make it great in every way
May your weekend be blessed
with very little stress
I hope you enjoyed this “little bit” of humor
and I wish you all great health and a Happy Weekend!
Lauren 🙂 ♥
Note: All photos, except our wedding photo were found on Google images.
Happy New Year Lauren. Definitley try Yoga! You will not regret it! Of course I will say the same about Zumba =-D
Thanks, Val, and I think I will, once I get my energy back…Zumba looks fun, too, so maybe that’ll happen this year, as well! 🙂
Glad to see an update from you Lauren! I hope you get much better soon with all of that. It must be sick season nationally as I’ve been sick as well. I hope you do try Yoga. I’ve even been tempted to try it, but since it’s mostly females that do it, I haven’t lol.
Cute poem there!
Thanks, Scott, I need a large dose of inspiration right now and I think I’m slowly on the mend and can’t wait to look alive again! I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick, as well, and hoping you feel better real soon! I’ve already decided once my energy is back, I will try Yoga. I’ve heard too many great things about it. Hey, you could always get a dvd and do it in the privacy of your own home. 😉 Glad you like the 2 minute poem, too! 🙂
Lauren, I love your little ‘cold’ poem, so cute! But I’m also sorry that you’ve been sick since New Years; that kind of sucks. Please continue to get better so you can get out and enjoy time with Copper and your family! And thank you so much, dear friend, for the lovely compliments and shout-out – we authors need to support each other as much as possible, and I’m honored to be among those whose support and encouragement you value! Hoping this is a wonderful year for you, in your writing and in your life! Much love and lots of hugs ~ Julie xoxox
I’m glad you liked my silly poem, Julie! I had to write something; sheesh, I need inspiration badly! 🙂 And thanks for your well wishes, too; I think I’m on the uphill climb and hoping by end of next week I’ll feel myself again…You’re very welcome for the shout-out and will always be on my list of those whose support I value. I wish all the same this year for you, too! Many hugs! xoxoxo
A lovely catch-up post Lauren. Just take it steady and let recovery happen in its own time. You will soon be back on your walks with Copper.
As for yoga I did it for years and loved every minute of it! its so energising and yet relaxing at the same time. Our youngest daughter, Ruth, is quite in love with yoga, she wouldnt miss it for anything. She is actually very good and can now stand on her head without any support. Not sure if you saw the pic I posted of her on holiday. I would never aim that high, but she is young and full of energy!!! 😄 You can go at your own pace, thats what I loved about it, and I always kept mine at a simple level, but it can still be very strenuous. Pilates is more gentle I think.
Your poem is lovely! But Im sorry youve been so poorly, it sounds awful.
HBL ❤ xxx
Thanks, Chris, and although I’m feeling a little better, this weekend is going to be for resting…I’m hoping by mid week, I’ll feel much better. Thanks also for your yoga thoughts; I don’t remember seeing Ruth’s photo, but I will say that my aims won’t be that high, either! 🙂 That’s awesome, though…I’ve thought of Pilates, too, so we’ll see. I’ve heard so many great things about Yoga, so I think I will try it when my energy is back…Glad you liked my silly poem; had to write something! lol Take care and HBL! ♥ xoxo
Get well soon! ^^ And such a funny little poem, by the way 😉 Great that you can still see some humour in being sick ^^
Thanks, Iris, slowly, but surely! 🙂 And I’m glad you enjoyed my funny poem. I think humor really lessens stress in many ways. Hope your year is starting out healthy, though!
That’s so true 😉 My year started out just fine and healthy for sure ^^
May 2014 bring you much success. I will be 54 in three weeks. I thought you were much younger than me. Congrats on 25 years. Also feel better no sympathy. All the best on achieving your goals for this year.
Thanks, Kim, for your new year and anniversary wishes and Happy early Birthday! I’m right behind you, but we’re still young, right? 😉 Thanks also for your well wishes w/o sympathy. I wanted to stress that’s not what this was all about. 🙂 And I wish you all the same for 2014, too! Sending hugs!
🙂
Lauren, hope you start to feel much better soon and thanks for a lovely warm-hearted post.
Thanks very much, Jean, and I think I’m on my way, even though slowly! Have a lovely weekend!

Levity supplies spice to life…
It sure does, thanks, Lindy! 🙂
Hi, Lauren, and hope by the time I am writing this, you are feeling better, eyes are clearing up and energy returning. Certainly you talent for writing with wit and wonder has … well, I am sure it never left you and never will! Hope all your plans reach fruition, but overall be kind to yourself and know that you are lovely just as you are. I have just a few little details to do on the Copper paintings. Hope the celebrations for your 25th anniversary are everything you wish them to be! XO ♥
Happy 2014 my friend to you and to your family, wishing you a great and bless year ahead 🙂
Thanks so much, my dear, and wishing you all the same, too! I hope this year brings many smiles and much success! You make my blogging experience the best, Lane! Thank you! xx
A lovely little poem and a happy new year to you.
Thanks, Joe! Happy New Year to you, too! 🙂
so sorry you’ve been under the weather! not a fun way to start out the new year… best of luck with your goals 🙂
Thanks, Sarah! I’m finally feeling better and more human again! The new year is now looking brighter! 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better, Lauren. New resolutions… Hmmmm not really. I mean I just wanna find a real job now. Be happy and healthy. I think that’s all. lol My old resolutions were to learn to play a new instrument besides guitar and I did!!! Eheheh But come on, this has to stop. Don’t have any room left. lol
By the way I started Pilates 6 months ago… I think it’s more “my thing” than yoga… sooo maybe consider this option too. 🙂
xx
I am as of today, Cha! It’s been 2 weeks and my body and head feel better. My eyes look better, too, but I’m holding off on mascara for a few more days. Can’t wait to wear that again! lol Good for you for learning an instrument. I know a little on the guitar, but always wanted to learn piano. We have one, too, so there’s no excuse, but have put more effort into my blog, book and writing…maybe someday, though. I’ve heard good things about Pilates, too, so will check that out. Thanks for your warm comment and wishes and sending you big hugs for a very happy new year! xoxo
Oh Lauren, I enjoyed reading through this awesome post so much. Thanks for your kind words and mentioning me on your post. You’re too kind~ love ya my friend. ♥ All the best with your book and I know you will just shine throughout the whole process. I tried yoga and it wasn’t for me as it seemed to cause me more pain in my upper back from my car accident injuries of years past.
You may really enjoy yoga. Copper, I am sure is the best company on a power walk.
I never really make New Year’s Resolutions, as I just tried to remain as positive as possible and continue to with my fitness. I pray for good health as I continue to age.
I best quit chattering. 🙂 Happy Anniversary. Silver Anniversary, very, very nice. Maybe now that your eyes are clearing up you can still get out and enjoy. Big hugs. Love Renee ♥
Hi Lauren!! Sorry to hear that you’ve been sick, like me 😦 I think I have been for the most part since Thanksgiving. For the first time in I don’t know how long, I missed the Christmas gathering on BOTH sides of the family!
Just wanted to drop you a line, sweetie, and let you know that noting has changed in Mark’s status other than he saw his third cardiologist who confirmed his diagnosis. He is helping him with whatever he needs to file for disability with S.S. and getting on a program with the drug mfg. to get his medicine free, otherwise it would cost up to$6000 a month!
I just got devastating news on Friday a week ago about my eldest brother who just turned 60 last year. He went in at Christmas time to have a prostectomy after getting the news of a positive screen for cancer. Further tests and biopsies showed that it is maligant and has mastatized to his bladder. I balled my eyes out for hours. He didn’t want to talk about at the time so I don’t know how long they gave him.
I think some sort of evil cloud has settled over us lately and I’m praying for God to lift it before anythng else happens!
Sending big warm hugs, with love, Terri
Hi Terri,
I’m glad you wrote me and I’m going to email you in a little bit…Sending many hugs, prayers and love your way, too…xoxo
