“Burdens to Buoyancy” published on Gobblers & Masticadores!

Dear Family and Friends,

I’m thrilled to share that my poem “Burdens to Buoyancy” is published on Gobblers & Masticadores today! Thank you to Manuela Timofte for believing in my work and providing the opportunity to be a monthly contributor to her literary site. I am in the company of so many talented writers. Thanks again, Manuela!

Burdens to Buoyancy

Stones of burdens can seem like pebblesโ€จ
barely tripping us up in our routines,โ€จ
but sometimes, theyโ€™re boulder massive,โ€จ
sliding us deeply into our headsโ€จ
when the need to escapeโ€จ
from our own selvesโ€จ
becomes vital for our sanity.

We pause in our footsteps,โ€จ
holding our breath, fighting tearsโ€จ
pushing as fiercely as a category five

The rest of the poem can be read here, and as always, a BIG THANKS to all of you for your wonderful support!

Ever So Gently receives more love from Michelle Ayon Navajas!

Hi All,

For those of you who have asked, I’m feeling better since that post a couple of weeks ago. But I’m still working through two health conditions that began last year – a double whammy. Changes are constant, but when those changes are permanent and challenging, it takes time to figure out how to live them. As with anything, time will tell and help me decide what do to next. But I’m thankful to feel a little better with no brain fog. Anyway, enough of that, and now on with my exciting news!

I was surprised to find this beautiful review of my book from Michelle Ayon Navajas on this Monday morning. And I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start my week. Her wonderful words truly touched me, so, I had to share her full review:

โ€œThe sky is the limitโ€ they say, but I think not even the sky has the power to limit the endless possibilities of how our minds work.

I was struggling with Reenaโ€™s prompt this week. Not for anything else but simply because I wanted it to be a motivational piece,  and maybe I suck at writing motivational pieces so I had to put this prompt aside and went to write my long overdue review of Lauren Scottโ€™s book โ€œEver So Gentlyโ€.

I was down with the last pages of the book, when an epiphany happened. This book is about the quote prompt of Reena; โ€œI think if you are curious, you create opportunities, and then if you open the doors, you create possibilities.โ€ โ€“ Mario Testino

โ€œEver So Gentlyโ€ is a collection of soul-soothing journey pieces of poetry packed up with calming scenes of early morning communion with nature. It is with our interaction with nature that we discover the endless possibilities about life and living it to the fullest. โ€œThe sky is the limitโ€ they say, but I think even the sky would be jealous at how beautiful Lauren wrote her collection.

โ€˜In Good Companyโ€™ begins:
โ€œWe stroll among redwood trees,
our steps slow down, we are in good company.โ€

I could almost feel the magical power in my hands through Laurenโ€™s lyrical prose, and we know that when one believes in magic (magic happens).

โ€œClouds understand why we wait.โ€ This is one of my adored lines from the book. Clouds may have a โ€œnot so good reputationโ€ for bringing in heavy rains or for signaling the coming of a storm (could be both literal and metaphorical), but in her book, Lauren had me stopped and pondered. Clouds, after all arenโ€™t that bad. It can be a sign of something good or better. It can be a friend who gives us a signal or warning that a rain is coming, we must be ready. So, clouds do give us the chance to prepare and be ready for the challenges we may encounter as the rain pours.

โ€˜First Breathโ€™, is my favorite. It is about a motherโ€™s love, the reason being my favorite is obvious. I am  mother and anything that speaks highly of a motherโ€™s love is grately admired by me.

โ€œWith every new miracle of life
answers arenโ€™t scripted in the stars,
but I knew since your very
first breath
my life would become yours.โ€

Every child is a blessing and Lauren said it so beautifully in this poem. It also brought me to tears and reminded me of my own journey as a mother to four beautiful daughters.

Laurenโ€™s book is not only about creating and opening doors of possibilities but also of celebrating wonderful memories.

Her communion with nature brings forth wisdom of mother earth that unfolds through her stunning imagery like: โ€œhear the rustle of a skittering squirrel,โ€ โ€œpetals of velvet invite raindrops to bask in their peach enchantment,โ€ and โ€œbreeze carries burdens down rivers.โ€

This book will surely uplift your spirit, and make you fall in love with love, create more memories with your loved ones, and appreciate nature even more. If you are not the type who loves to taka quiet walk in the morning or early in the evening, this book will make you wanna grab your walking or running and go for a short easy- breezy walk. As for me who used to run in around my neighborhood, it made me miss those moments. I said โ€œused toโ€ because I no longer do it as often as I do it before pandemic.

Here are some of Laurenโ€™s memorable imagery:

โ€œThe sky explodes in tangerines, salmons, canary yellows โ€“ brighter with every second. Itโ€™s as though a painter swished her brush back and forthโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAnd water hasnt caressed the hills
The earth, parched like Chileโ€™s Atacama.โ€

โ€œSilk-thread drizzles dusted rooftops and parched hills.โ€

Lauren wrote in various poetic styles and forms from free versse to syllabic poetry like haiku, tanka, etheree, shadorma โ€“ this collection will not bore you. She made these forms looked so easy to write.

Lauren emphasizes how mysterious life is. She also made me ponder deeper into the essence of my own existence while reflecting upon my journey in life, and that at the end of it all no matter how difficult life is, we must not forget to love and live life ever so gently.

This book is best read with a hot chocolate or a coffee as you curl up and savor each poem.

burdens to buoyancy

Stones of burdens can seem like pebbles
barely tripping us up in our routines,
but sometimes, theyโ€™re boulder massive,
sliding us deeply into our heads
when the need to escape

from our own selves
becomes vital for our sanity

we pause in our footsteps,
holding our breath, fighting tears
pushing as fiercely as a category five

but then our eyes look out the window
following sunlight, focusing on the frost
hanging on tips of tree branches
as though adorned by sparkling jewels

they wink at us

and those boulders shrink to pebbles
with the sweetness of air, we inhale new life
burdens we exhale, so we can breathe in miracles
surrounding us – in those who hold our hearts,
in every sight, every bloom, every soundโ€ฆ

How liberating to feel such buoyancy!

Again, thank you to Dagmara and her team for publishing my work. I’m honored to be nominated for this award, and to be among wonderful friends who are amazing writers! I’ll leave you with a poem from my book (the poem from which my book found its title) to guide you through today and days to come. I’ve shared it before, so enjoy for another reading!

Ever So Gently

Sometimes we get lost
in our thoughtsโ€ฆ
losing focus of the stars
lighting up the night sky.
We tumble too deeply
into the frontal lobe,
allowing negative thoughts
to awaken, to throw a tantrum.

Remember, the breeze carries
burdens down rivers
and across oceans,
majestic trees sway with joy,
sheltering from shadows,
and the light shines even if only
a slight glimmer slips through.

Its glow will grow ever so gently
into a bright beacon of hope
rising with the golden sun
bringing clarity to our vision.

Sally at Smorgasbord Blog Magazine features Ever So Gently!

Dear Friends,

Sally at Smorgasbord Blog Magazine is always so kind and generous to support authors in promoting their books, and I’m thrilled that she featured my latest,
Ever So Gently.
If you haven’t met Sally, please visit her site. She is a pillar in this wonderful community. Here’s what Smorgasbord Blog Magazine is all about in Sally’s words:

“Smorgasbord Blog Magazineย was the follow on to a physical newsletter that I published every month for two years, on subscription to listeners to my radio show.. I expanded the original format which was mainly health articles, to including book marketing, music, humour, lifestyle, cookery and food and short stories. My aim was to create a watering hole that provided a wide number of topics to chat aboutโ€ฆ.This has now developed further to provide a platform for other authors to share their work. This year the blog celebrates twelve years, ten of them as Smorgasbord Blog Magazine.”

In this series authors were invited to share an excerpt of 500 words from any of their published books .

Submissions are now closed for this series but there will be another in early 2024.. My thanks to all who have participated.

Today I am sharing a poem by Lauren Scott…from her recent release Ever So Gently: A Collection of Poems.

About the collection

In Ever So Gently, Lauren Scott shares her strong link to nature, taking the reader on a tranquil walk through a redwood grove. Youโ€™ll find an invitation to sit quietly on a patio, captivated by the simple beauty of a hummingbird. Sheโ€™ll entice you to revel on the shore of a freshwater lake, mesmerized by its stunning beauty.

Scott shares how love has shaped her life. From that first delicious kiss to celebrating decades of marriage through a love that deepens over time. How her heart melted when she became a mom, then ached when her children started their adult lives across country. And how her adorable canine companions found their way into her heart.

Scott underscores how life presents mysteries we struggle to solve. We canโ€™t help but ponder the deeper meaning of a simple vision. She prompts you to reminisce and reflect on your past, present, and future. Through the ups and downs, what matters most is to love and live ever so gently.

Book trailer created by Robbie Cheadle with my photos.

One of the poems from the collection in honour of Laurenโ€™s father-in-law:

She Listens

He cares for his father whose body tires,
pain raging at cyclone force
from one hundred years of living a lifetime.
Yes, one hundred years! We were thrilled
to celebrate this monumental milestone,
but our emotions undulate โ€“
who wishes to watch a loved one suffer?

Another week of work comes to an end.
With glass of wine in hand, we exhale
on the patio. Then the sun says,
โ€œGood night, my dear friends,โ€ as he
descends, making room for the moon.

And when the moon appears, Oh, my!
She takes our breath away!
Bright and bold as if she senses
we could use light in our souls.
She pays attention,
but most importantly, she listens.
And though the stars act a bit bashful,
they eavesdrop, and we are fine that they do.

The moon and stars hear us,
just an ordinary couple enjoying
a Friday evening but with heavy hearts.
Their absolute attention, imagine this,
out of all eyes gazing at the brilliant sky โ€“
we know the moonโ€™s lustrous presence
is for us alone.

Then we rise from our seats and head into
the house, feeling relaxed from the wineโ€™s
fluidity, and appreciative that our troubles
have been received.

One of the reviews for the collection:

Balroop Singhย 5.0 out of 5 starsย Brilliant and relatable ย Reviewed in the United States

Scottโ€™s poetry celebrates memories and moments in her latest collection โ€“ โ€˜Ever So Gently.โ€™ Her connection with the surroundings blends into the wisdom of nature that unfolds through stunning imagery like: โ€œhear the rustle of a skittering squirrel,โ€ โ€œpetals of velvet invite raindrops to bask in their peach enchantment,โ€ and โ€œbreeze carries burdens down rivers.โ€

From the birds that โ€˜flit and flutterโ€™ to build their nest to the owl who proclaims his presence with his โ€˜high-pitched tootsโ€™ and the hummingbirds that flutter around the โ€œbright pink petalsโ€ โ€“ all find a place of honor in this book to delight your moods. Laurenโ€™s realism captivates and appeals to all the senses. Some of her poems express profound love that we cherish and yearn for โ€“ she tells you how valuable that love has been in her life.

From โ€˜The Peach Roseโ€™ to โ€˜Firestormโ€™ and not to forget โ€˜I Was Adopted,โ€™ her poetry slides most naturally on the wide canvas of creativity. However, poems that speak of love, of growing up and bonding are the ones that touched my heart. Who can ever forget โ€˜The Old Afghan,โ€™ which is most relatable!

I havenโ€™t read a more beautiful description of sunset โ€“ โ€œThe sky explodes in tangerines, salmons, canary yellows โ€“ brighter with every second. Itโ€™s as though a painter swished her brush back and forthโ€ฆโ€
Some more examples of Scottโ€™s brilliant style:
โ€œAnd water hasnt caressed the hills
The earth, parched like Chileโ€™s Atacama.โ€
โ€œSilk-thread drizzles dusted rooftops and parched hills.โ€
โ€œHow he tenderly tiptoed through the syllables.โ€(I could feel the poignancy of the emotion)

A combination of free verse and syllabic poetry like haiku, tanka, etheree, shadorma etc. this is a lovely collection of poetry. Read it slowly to savor each emotion.

Happy Friday! Today is the last day to vote!

As I stated in my previous post, I am honored that my poem “Chilling Embrace” is nominated, and today is the last day to vote for Publication of the Month at Spillwords Press. I hope you’ll support me!

Here is the link: https://spillwords.com/vote/ and you’ll have to log in to vote.

Chilling Embrace

I have been embraced
by the chilling presence
of loneliness.
I have wondered
where the niche
designed for me
exists in this world
in which my breaths
originate.
I have waited
for the glow
to emerge from
behind the shadows.

But when I take
that wise step
into the splendor
of nature,
listen to the trees
whisper their sagacity,
feel the flowing rivers
move my pain,
creating vast distance
between it and me,
I have been revived
by the compassion
that nature offers
so unselfishly.
