The Cards We’re Dealt

We sail through life smoothly
until a wave knocks us down
with no means for escaping
no turning around or backing away
We’re still caught in the aftermath
of that dismal day

The best move is to dive in head first
We may get hurt
where our emotions could run so wild
that our souls would be fully drained
from the collision of shock,
new found pain

Where tears could fall so long and hard
that face muscles would begin to dance
and our happiness would be scarred

Our only choice then,
is to move forward
We must learn to deal
the hand we’re dealt
and consent to acceptance

With weeping more infrequent
and the embracing of strength
Our eyes will open to the light and follow
allowing Hope and Faith
to enter
our hearts once again

♥ One Year of Blogging Anniversary ♥

In the time span of 365 days
so much has happened in wonderful ways
We’ve blown out more candles to celebrate birthdays
added new accomplishments to justify praise

At this time last year
I was nudged in arm and ear
by my son to begin this blog, despite any fear
I felt nothing but alarm, but started in low gear

So with two feet forward, pen in hand
I dove into WordPress and my blogging began
I had hopes for acceptance without a big plan
but I never would have guessed for it to turn out so grand

That publish button was scary, I confess
I clicked it, eyes closed, hoping for the best
Maybe one, two or three likes would be progress
yet, I know the numbers don’t define success

The learning curve is so large, the excitement is tangible
The friendship circle with feedback is expandable
Meeting other dear souls from all over is invaluable
A new world that shows us anything is possible

With a humble heart, a few happy tears in tow,
I have to say “thank you” for helping my blog grow
Your acceptance of my soul means more than you’ll ever know
and I can’t leave out the beautiful awards you did bestow

From my heart, I gift to you something sweet
to celebrate One Year of my blog, enjoy a treat
Indulge, just this time, over there, take the window seat
Without your support, my experience would be incomplete

I’m using pink today in memory of Mom, and
carrot cake is only one of the sweets you’ll taste – hope you like it!
It’s my utmost favorite and yes, it’s a veggie in my book! 🙂
There’s plenty of other delicious treats,
along with yummy healthy choices, too.
So, I hope you enjoy yourself and many, many thanks, again! ♥

Peace and Hugs, Lauren

Copper’s 2nd Birthday Limerick Trilogy ♥

I.

There once was a dog named Copper
He had pearly whites in his chopper
but harmless was he
Wouldn’t harm a bee
His eyes were big heart stoppers

II.

Six months ago, we brought him home
and watched him while he roamed
He sniffed around
without a sound
then laid down with his bone

III.

His new home is his comfort zone
You wouldn’t believe how he’s grown
More like a horse
threw us off course
but how would we have known?

We’re very lucky to have adopted another wonderful dog.
Copper is a great addition to our family and
he’s a big lovable baby!

These are first attempts at writing limericks.
I hope you enjoyed.  They’re fun, but challenging.
🙂

In Loving Memory of Mom

When I think of Mom, I think pink
Cherry blossoms in the spring
I think elegance and grace
and I envision her beautiful face
Her smile would warm others for miles
When I think of Mom
I’m saddened to know
I can’t call her and hear her “hello”
but I can see her
clearly as the garden from my window
and each day she graces my memories
while my love for her grows

Mom ~ June 1921 – February 2012

Undying Faith

We sat in cushioned pews, embraced by God’s love,
awestruck by the strength of her faith. Her words were
pillars of conviction. Her eyes never lost their luster
for His surrounding beauty. She moved gracefully
around the stage, as her voice was a hymn to our
saddened souls. Although her body was failing, she
wore elegance beautifully in the stylish cap. Her smile
permeated the sanctuary. Even so, we held back tears,
ready for pouring. God needed one more angel. He knew
her death would cause heartache for her devoted husband
and two lovely teens.  Yet, still He called her home.
She soon received her wings.

Happy 21st Birthday to My Daughter ♥♥♥

You were a bundle of baby powder
so sweet smelling and cuddly
with rosy lips curved
into the perfect infant smile

that was only the beginning
of our hearts melting

Your beauty became more apparent,
not only on the outside, but on the inside, too
Your heart grew big enough
to share love around the world
You were an adorable little girl
Then within days,
You became a gorgeous young lady
ready to take on the world

You are the moon at it’s fullest,
pouring light over us
on the darkest night
and a country melody
just right for line dancing

You are the brightest sunflower
adding color to the garden of life
or the white stallion
prepared for any challenge that greets you

You are a dolphin,
gliding gently through life with grace
or shimmering sterling silver
Your soul never to tarnish

Our daughter, our creation from love
Now Twenty-one
“You’ve got the world by the tail,
Your Grandpa used to say
So move forward with passion
and make your own way

Our love for you is larger than life,
Mom and Dad
