Smorgasbord of Fun

blogger-recognition-award-logo-453942717-1521086477961-1

Two lovely friends recently nominated me for awards and a quote challenge. Even though I haven’t
participated in awards for years, I feel compelled to graciously accept them both. However, instead of nominating individuals, I’m leaving it up to anyone who wants to follow through. It’s too hard to choose, anyway, because you’re all deserving!

Part 1 – I was nominated by Sarah at secretartexpedition.wordpress.com for the Blogger Recognition Award. Thank you so much, Sarah, for thinking of me and for the beautiful words you wrote about my blog, too. In accepting this award, we need to write a brief story of how our blog was started. So, here goes…

“When I turned fifty and since I love to write poetry, my son suggested that I start a poetry blog. I had never blogged before and really only heard about the world of blogging after watching the movie, “Julie and Julia” about a woman (superbly played by Amy Adams) who sets a deadline of one year to prepare all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s book, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” Meryl Streep played the role of Julia exquisitely. As Julie cooked throughout that year, she also blogged about her experiences, some good, some stressful. Not only was it a great movie, but I was intrigued.

Soon after, I took my son’s suggestion, and that was in 2011! Throughout the years, it’s been an enlightening journey of making amazing friends, as well as, a growing experience in writing.”

In accepting this award, we’re also supposed to give advice to new bloggers, so here is mine:
“Think of something you’re truly passionate about, then embed that passion into your blog posts. Don’t worry about stats – just have fun, then see what follows.”

Here are the Rules for the Blogger Recognition nominees:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide links to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Attach the award to your post.
  4. Write a brief story of how your blog started.
  5. Give a piece of advice to new bloggers.
  6. Select the other 15 blogs you want to give the award to.
  7. Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them.
  8. Be inspired to live your best life every day.

growingselfbloggerawardimg_7849-e1495735162603Sarah also nominated me for the Growing Self Blogger Award.

This award has been created by Roda from over at Growing Self and you can read in her own words what it is about:

“The Growing Self Blogger Award has been created to acknowledge and celebrate amazing individuals, in the blogging community, who are persevering through life’s challenges not only to GROW as individuals, but to reach out and help others GROW as well.”

Thanks again, Sarah! I’m honored on both counts!

And here are the rules to this award:

1. Put the award logo/image on your blog.
2. List the rules.
3. Thank the individual who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
4. Describe the award and mention the creator: Roda _ Growingself.blog.
5. Nominate up to 5 blogs. Remember, the purpose of this award is to specifically    celebrate those individuals who have made a difference in your life or the lives of others.
6. Give at least 1 reason why you nominated each individual.
7. Notify your nominees of the award.

I want to finish this part by saying that if you haven’t visited Sarah’s blog yet, please do so. She is the most amazing painter, and each time I pop on over, I am in awe of her talent. Below is her recent painting of Franklin – watercolor on paper, April 2018. Isn’t he absolutely adorable? And Franklin is just one example of Sarah’s ability to beautifully portray nature with the means of a skilled artist.

Part 2 –  I was nominated by Annika at annikaperry.com to participate in The 3 Day Quote Challenge. I’ve always loved quotes and their ability to personally resonate for some reason or another.

For the next three days, I will be posting a quote and explaining why it’s made an impression on me, though life probably won’t allow me to do posts three consecutive days in a row. So, rules are meant to be broken! 🙂

To the challenge…The rules are as follows:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Post a quote on 3 consecutive days.
  • Share why this quote appeals so much to you.
  • Nominate 3 different bloggers for each day.

Thanks so much to Annika for this nomination! She is an amazing fiction writer, who can tell stories that evoke every little emotion inside of you. Her debut book, “The Storyteller Speaks” read more like a #1 on the bestseller list. It was a page-turner and definitely a book that can’t be put down. Please pay Annika a visit and while you’re there, you can purchase a copy of her book simply by clicking on the book image on her sidebar. It’s as easy as that!

Now for my quote. Funny thing is I heard “Have it All” by Jason Mraz today for the first time and absolutely loved it. What first came to mind after listening to both words and music was simply happiness! Happy, Happy, Happy! After watching the video, you can’t help but feel good. So, instead of sharing a quote, I’m going to share the first part of this song, which is more like a wish for you…

“May you have auspiciousness and causes of success
May you have the confidence to always do your best
May it take no effort in you being generous
Sharing what you can, nothing more, nothing less
May you know the meaning of the word happiness
May you always lead from the beating in your chest
May you be treated like an esteemed guest
May you get to rest, may you catch your breath

And may the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows
And may the road less paved be the road that you follow

I want you to have it all (have it all)

And now you have reached the end, but not without the video link so you can get yourself some happiness, too:  https://youtu.be/BFkTu8Y1KLs.

Please note: I was able to link the video, but for some unknown reason, I was unable to link Sarah and Annika’s blogs, but you can copy and paste. They’re in red font so not to miss them.

I hope you enjoyed this post, in spite of its lengthiness, and found some little tidbit that brightens your day….because “I want you to have it all!”

Fulfilled

Let me drink from the look in your eyes
eyes that have me wildly mesmerized
mesmerized under their piercing blue spell
spell that only you hold powers to cast over me
me, with a heart out-of-control in love
love, a whirlwind of euphoric emotions so true
true in not only our hearts, but in our minds
minds, fully aware of their endless thoughts
thoughts so amorous of us entwined
entwined in each other’s arms forever,
forever, still too few seconds for our time together

Presence of Mind

The window’s blinds remain closed
closed as folks stroll by, oblivious
oblivious to the darkness
darkness deeper than sight, though
though, sight alone suggests flickering
flickering of a hope so minute
minute enough to miss its presence
presence of mind to see its strength
strength required to step forward
forward at a time of endless challenges
challenges with painful, steady grips
grips leaving no room for faith
faith, however, lies within that flicker of hope

If I Can Dream – The Dreaming Continues.

I was invited by The Bee to join her music blog party in celebrating life by sharing a song of a favorite musician who left this world too soon. https://beehalton.com/music-monday-blog-party-celebrate-your-life/everything

My older sister loved Elvis, so that’s how I learned about him and his music. On April 25, 1976, he performed at the Long Beach Arena, and my sister, her husband, my parents, and I went to the concert. I was 15 years old and truly in love with him. Who cares about a 26-year age difference. 🙂 I wasn’t one of his screaming fans, though. I simply wanted to hear him sing. I wanted to hear the depth and richness of his voice.

I’m grateful to have seen him in concert, but remembering the songs such as, “My Way” with the opening line of, “And now the end is near” is chilling, to say the least, since he passed away a year later. He lived longer than many musicians, yet, still died way too soon. He was the King of Rock ‘n Roll, and is still a legend to this day – even 41 years after his death.

This song that I’ve chosen, “If I Can Dream” was powerful back then, but the lyrics still resonate to present time…

“If I Can Dream”

There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true?

There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away all the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won’t that sun appear?

We’re lost in a cloud with too much rain
We’re trapped in a world that’s troubled with pain
But as long as a man has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly

Deep in my heart there’s a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer’s gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there’s a beckoning candle
And while I can think,
While I can talk
While I can stand,
While I can walk
While I can dream,
Please let my dream come true… right now
Let it come true right now
Oh, yeah

WHATEVER WE DO IN OUR LIVES, KEEP ON DREAMIN’ – WATCHING FOR THAT BECKONING CANDLE!

Hugs, Lauren ❤❤❤

Thinking Ahead!!

Dear Friends,

Mother’s Day may be a month away, but with the pace in which time flies, it’s really just around the corner. So, if you’re searching for a special gift and one of poetic content, my books would be a great option. Both collections are influenced by various emotions derived from life’s experiences.

If you haven’t already purchased copies, then I hope you’ll consider doing so. Also, a Big “Thank You” to all of you who have already purchased my books – adding them to your home libraries or giving them as gifts, and who have also been generous enough to write reviews. Your support is truly appreciated!!!

To purchase copies, you may click on the images on my sidebar. Or, I’ve included the links below, as well:

New Day New Dreams 2013

https://tinyurl.com/ybgzrlcq

“New Day, New Dreams takes the reader on a romantic ride of happiness, heartbreak, and passion, along with exploring struggles in life, while being inspired to move forward. Adding humor to the mix is a delightful reprieve from heartbreak and hurt. This collection of poetry is a reminder of long-lasting love, new beginnings, and showing appreciation for the special people in our lives.”

Finding a Balance 2015

http://goo.gl/1tu5Jp

Finding a Balance speaks often of emotions and spirit after finding out about my daughter’s life-threatening disease. However, in contrast to this sadness, I’ve always possessed a romantic soul. So, through faith and adding a touch of romance, coming out of the darkness and finding the light again is possible. This book takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride of different emotions evoked from life and love, but regardless of what is thrown in the path, hope always prevails.”

***Note: All proceeds from Finding a Balance go to The Chris Klug Foundation for Organ Donation Awareness. If you’re interested, here is the link for Chris’ story (click on the Transplant tab): http://chrisklug.com/. Brief summary: He was diagnosed in 1991 with the same disease my daughter has now (diagnosed in 2012).

Wishing you all Light, Love, and much Happiness!

~Lauren ❤❤❤

Their Year

Dear Grandma,

Before my life
began, your light
was growing
dim.
You were going to

Heaven. I wish you
didn’t
have to leave
because I never got
to
meet you. I miss
you so
much. I wish
we could’ve
read and
played together. I wish
I could’ve held your

hand while we took
a walk together…
I can’t see your bright
smile
that daddy told
me about or
your pretty
brown eyes. I
can’t hear
your voice, either,
but I
know you’re my Angel in

the skies.
Sometimes, I want to visit
Heaven just to tell you,
“I Love You.”

(These thoughts are in memory of my
mother-in-law, Diane, who passed away

in January 1991 – written from my young
daughter’s perspective, who was born

later that same year.
Of course, Diane never met our son,
either, who was born four years later.
And even though that was a long time
ago, it still breaks our hearts that she
never knew her grandchildren.) ❤
