Sweet & Cute Factor

For the past week, we’ve had some unexpected guests, a mama and daddy finch. They’ve given us the pleasure of watching their home-building process inside our gazebo, and sometime soon, cute little baby chicks will complete their feathered family.

Yesterday’s entertainment came when daddy began playing on my car side mirror. Actually, it appeared that he was fighting for his territory. Little did he know that what he saw was his own reflection, and the third photo, you see a glimpse of his tail only. So, I grabbed my cell, zoomed in, and took these photos before he took flight. If you also look closely enough, you’ll see that I have some cleaning up to do. πŸ™‚

It was fun to watch this little guy, as long as he didn’t hurt himself, which wasn’t the case. When it was time for me to leave and I was nearer with Copper in tow, he took flight without hesitation. I was happy to catch his wings all a flutter, though, before he went on his merry way. I’ll keep you posted with their growing family…

The last photo is the homemade carrot cake I baked for a dinner we went to last night with friends. It was a potluck, and all the food was delicious, not to mention, the company was great. Do you like carrot cake? It’s my ultimate favorite…always…forever and ever…
If only that ‘share’ button was literal; I’d offer you a taste. πŸ™‚

Hope you enjoyed, and Happy Saturday! 🌻❀🌼

  1. Aww…love reignites in spring! Your lovely guests are going to stay till their family is complete and ready to fly! Love your cute story Lauren. Watch the fun and enjoy your weekend. πŸ™‚

    1. Their nest is too high for us to see, so I don’t know if we’ll see or hear baby chicks, but I hope so. πŸ™‚ Thanks Balroop! Glad you enjoyed and hope you’re having a good weekend, too!

  2. Enjoyed your photos! I’ve seen robins do that – peck at their reflections in windows. Poor things, they can’t figure it out.

Glad your evening went well last night! Still Loving the thought of carrot cake. 😊

    1. Glad you did, Betty, and I felt bad in the beginning, too, but at least he’s not hurting himself. It’s too bad you can’t have carrot cake since you like it. But I understand because I have to do the same with certain foods, too – and foods that I like, so it’s a bummer. πŸ™‚ It’s been super hot yesterday and today, doing a lot of gardening and planting of new plants, also. The fans blowing, though, so I’m cool right now. Have a good evening, my friend…hugs β€πŸ°β£πŸ’—πŸ’šπŸ§‘

  3. Yes carrot cake is one of my most favourite desserts. I used to have a large finch covered area in India but prefer them visiting as free birds now. We have a large variety of birds visiting our bird bath each day.

    1. Ahh, another carrot cake fan! And I like seeing them as free birds, too, Ian. What a wonderful source of entertainment your bird bath is…we have a hummingbird feeder hanging in the yard, but we haven’t seen any come around, yet.

      1. Auburn is beautiful, too! I had an aunt who lived there years ago. We’ve had hummingbirds before, but haven’t seen too many yet. Hopefully, we will though because they’re also fascinating.

  4. We have a pair of blackbirds who use our garden for building materials and food gathering.

I only once made carrot cake and it went well. my favourite home-made cake looks like this. (This is a pic found on line rather than mine. But similar,)

    1. Yes, if you like carrot cake, this photo would entice, and I’d share if I could. πŸ™‚ I’ve never had banana cake, but I often make banana bread. I wonder how similar they are…:)

  5. I looove carrot cake! And yours looks so yummy! πŸ˜„
And what a lovely surprise to have a finch family nesting near you – so glad daddy finch didn’t hurt himself! The pics are awesome btw! Can’t wait for baby chic pics!!! πŸ˜„πŸ£πŸ₯πŸ’ž

    1. Yay! Another fan, Sarah! It was yummy, if I can be honest. πŸ™‚ I wish I could share! We were able to use a mirror and step stool to peek at the nest while mommy and daddy were out feeding. We found four eggs! It’s pretty cool! But daddy is still playing on our car side mirrors and making big messes, so that’s the frustrating part. We’re either parking somewhere else or covering our mirrors with paper bags. Oh well, a little inconvenience to allow nature to take its course. Have a good weekend! Love and hugs! πŸ’—πŸŒΌπŸŒ»

      1. How lovely that you could take a glimpse at the nest! And I can imagine the mess daddy makes when fluttering around your car! The paper bags sound like a very good idea! Less stress for him and hopefully less mess for you. πŸ˜‰ Can’t wait to hear more of the nestlings! πŸ˜„ Have an amazing weekend too! Hugs and love! πŸ’•πŸ£

  6. Lauren, how I wish that like & share button was literal as well – I’d happily taste a morsel (ie large slice) of your carrot cake! It looks delicious and is one of my favourites. I only tried if a few years ago as the thought of carrot and cake didn’t appeal – wow, I’d been missing out on a treat! Enjoy your Finch family … and get read with the bucket for the occasional clearn-ups! My bench under the cherry bench is taking a hammering as the birds discover the cherries! Wishing you a wonderful day. xx

    1. Thanks, Annika, and I wish I could’ve shared with you. It was good, but I am pretty proud of my carrot cakes. I don’t make them often, but when I do, everyone enjoys the special treat. You’re right, carrots in a cake don’t sound appealing, but essentially, it’s a rich spice cake. As to the finches, we’re still cleaning up. Daddy won’t leave the mirrors alone. But we peeked at the nest and saw four eggs (I told you on the other post’s reply). So, that’s pretty exciting. Oh, I can just picture the birds going after the cherries, too! πŸ™‚ Wishing you a fabulous weekend and is there any news regarding your possible collaboration with Chris? Love to you 🌷

      1. Yeah! I love that there are four eggs … and I’m trying to think of a solution for your car. Something bright and shing, Christmas glitter? Chris and I are ‘chatting’, see what is possible. Many thaks again. Enjoy your baking and cakes … I make mean scones so if you’re ever over! hugs xx🌸🌼

  7. That’s lovely, is it not – cats, dogs and birds seeing themselves in the mirror and going all ballistics πŸ™‚
    I love carrot cake πŸ™‚
    All good wishes, dear friend,
    Eric

    1. It is, Eric, except for daddy’s mess. I moved my car to the other side, but he found my daughter’s car. Then she covered her mirror and he went for her window. πŸ™‚ Anywhere he can see his reflection. It’s crazy! Oh well, it’s all good. I wish I could’ve shared my carrot cake. It was yummy. πŸ™‚ Enjoy your day/evening, my friend. 🍰😊

  8. Isheta Setia

The bird was beautiful but the carrot cake made it even better. It’s always better than chocolate. Much love. πŸ™‚
