Happy Father’s Day Weekend!

This weekend and every day, we think of our fathers, Richard and Wil, and brother-in-law, Jerry, who aren’t with us anymore. We miss them so much, but they will always live in our hearts. And we celebrate the backpacker in the photo who loves his daughter and son and wife more than anything. He’s endured some bumps in the road but with us by his side for support, he feels like he’s won the lottery. Besides spending time with his family, he’d rather be hiking on a mountain, relaxing by a lake, or riding a motorcycle. His heart is kind and he tries to see the good in everyone. Even after 37 years, I still get lost in his blue eyes and can’t believe how lucky I am to share my life with him. ❤️

So, Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads around the globe who do their best to be the best for their children!

By the way, DNA doesn’t make a good father. Actions speak louder than words. A biological father who neglects his children isn’t a good dad. A great father is a man who is emotionally available and actively involved in his child’s life.

    This is such a beautiful tribute. I especially loved your reminder that being a father is about far more than DNA, it’s about love, presence, sacrifice, and showing up day after day. The love and admiration you have for your husband shines through every word, and after 37 years, still getting lost in his blue eyes is a testimony to a marriage that has been blessed.

  21. I think just quietly sitting there in the middle of everything else and it says more about your marriage than a whole essay could. The DNA line needed to be said and I’m glad you said it. A title doesn’t make someone a dad. Showing up does. Being present does. That’s it really.

  30. Lauren, such beautiful sentiments expressed on Father’s Day! I have missed a lot of posts here and elsewhere, but with apologies, I am doing my best to get on track. Life, work, a new website, and so many other things have been an overload. Needless to say, I have dearly missed your writings here; you restore our faith in life, reflecting on the many things that make life so happy, so caring, and so well worth living. I truly miss my parents too!
