Today
This morning
I wake to the end
of a week
The sun will soon
join me
for the day to begin
But as I drink my coffee
and type these words,
people are fighting
for their lives
against ugly diseases
Homeless men,
women, and
children
are trying
not to freeze
As I relish
this moment
of peace,
strife is invading
many lives
without invitation
all around the world,
Our world
So I will not
take for granted
what others long for

A Moment’s Peace
Relaxation finds me beneath this tree
pondering life and sweet serenity
Butterflies do their carefree dance
in the air is the scent of romance
From where I sit in a patch of shade
squirrels scamper on the carpet of jade
Birds join in with a song or two
their melodies erase my moods of blue
Life bounces by, yet stillness abounds
calming every nerve with all unique sounds
This pillar of strength shelters and embraces
while emotions change to different faces
I close my eyes to the whispers of the breeze
allowing my mind to finally be at ease

Harmony
Let there be peace in the world,
more laughter and love for our boys and girls.
Let goodwill and kindness, no matter your color,
be spread through the hearts of our brother.
Let compassion pour through our words and actions,
pulling all violence from our media attractions.
Let there be peace in the world,
to end all suffering for our boys and our girls.

Sleep
Thank you for pulling me
into a tight embrace
allowing my mind to rest at last
my heart to beat at a slower pace
for tears to refrain from sliding fast
I needed this breathing space
