Altitude

Not
a sound
can
be heard,
except
the wind’s
whisper
through the
evergreens
and an
occasional
chirp

Peace
flows
through
my
veins,
masking
any sliver
of concern
holding
me
in
chains

Fragrance
renews all
senses,
shifting my
state
of
mind,
releasing
any
tension

Gratitude
embodies
my heart,
with
my love
beside
me –
mesmerized
by
lakeside
beauty
and the
melody
of silence

Mt. Baldy

We were rising, riding to the top with
patches of green below. I could
have almost touched the sky. My skin
warmed with each look from the blue
in your eyes. You looked at me with
devotion, but you had something up
your sleeve. Our life’s path was about
to change; an anticipated detour for both
hearts. Nothing would ever be the same,
in a good way, like the fairytale that
replayed in my dreams. This place was
enchanting, so close to Heaven, where flowers
bloomed and time stood still and God gave
His blessing. The bubbly was on standby,
I didn’t know at the time…for this was where
you asked me to be your Wife, to share each
high, low, day and night and where you said
those three sweet words
to me for Life.

The Cabin on the Corner

Big Bear Lake

Our little cabin in the woods
was made of rustic charm
It embraced us with its caring walls
and kept us very warm

In our cozy kitchen
Mom enticed us with her cooking
we’d always sneak a taste
when we knew she wasn’t looking

Night time walks could be spooky
even with a flashlight
to find furry, black masks huddled
was an unnerving sight

Time was passed in the snow
by flying down the hills
on a magic wooden sleigh
delighting in the thrills

Memories of our corner cabin
will forever stay in mind
but my heart is heavy knowing
now its windows are blind
