Tangerine Smiles

Those were the days
of jumping off
diving boards,

playing Marco Polo,
swimming like mermaids
to heart’s content,
working up appetites
for sweet fruit
ready for picking,
playing board games
with sticky fingers,
laughing at clumsy
motor skills,

yet reveling in the
simplicity of it all
and life was the best

Folly

Just yesterday
I went for a walk
by myself
but I wasn’t lonely
until I slipped and fell
into a puddle of
infatuation

There was no one to catch me

Once I gained my composure
I was only sure of confusion
and I wondered how
my clothes would dry

Puddles were in abundance

He is only being himself,
I silently conjectured

The air was cold
The wind insistent
I felt myself trembling
with only the truth
to blame

KC

While sitting in this memory
my eyes begin to water

as my mind wanders through
the road together we traveled

but as tears fall, their love washes
over all that was unraveled

leaving a smile on my face
knowing his love and humor

will always leave a trace
for this moment and into my future

While sitting in this memory
I hold deeply in my heart

what once was of the man
whose presence I miss

Carousel Dream

carousel horse white

She sleeps in her bed
with a comforter made of
pastel colored flowers and
a soft pillow for her head
Dreaming of silvery manes
and bows on white horses
as they ride on a carousel
with draped, sparkling reins
Outside her window, though
she hears shuffles and squeaks
and feels a bit frightful
from the night time show
Mom sings calming tunes
convincing her precious girl
the sounds were only the
language of raccoons

Salt and Sand

boys-on-the-beach-lamarr-kramer

Gray, breezy day
with songs of the ocean
serenading
young children at play
with their imaginations

creating happy faces
and pancakes
in sandy surfaces

delighted to
collect seashells
and half broken
sand dollars

with a feeling of
great
accomplishment

(This beautiful painting by Lamarr Kramer
was found on Google and there’s nothing like the
innocence of children and the simplest things in life
that brings delight to them.
This was written from a memory with my son.)

Memories, Tears & Sinful Cravings

I heard about this poetry form, Cinquain, during one of my visits to http://purplesplatitudes.wordpress.com. If you get the chance, stop by Michael’s blog. His writing is wonderful and he ventures into different poetry forms and emotions. I know you won’t be disappointed!

I would definitely call these “rough drafts” and more practicing is in the future, but I hope you enjoy…

When they were Young

Giggles,
barefoot on cool
grass, swinging in summer
breeze, smiles bigger than Texas state
the past

Diagnosis

Covered
ears with shaky
hands, unbelievable
echoes of pain flow in and out
fear not?

Chocolate

Craving
comfort food, oh,
something creamy sounds good
gooey, sinfully delicious
dark, though
