Unseen Hearts – Share the Love!

Today sparks many thoughts, mostly happy and loving, but for me, there is more to this day than chocolate and roses. So, I’m combining two posts from the past, and if you remember these, I hope they resonate again…❤️

Valentine’s Day is an exciting day for couples to celebrate their love for each other. I also show my love not only for my husband, but for my family and friends who hold a special place in my heart. But we need to keep in mind that today isn’t joyful for everyone. Some people grieve the passing of their spouse or partner. Some hearts hurt from a breakup. Some people have chosen to be single, so today may not hold a huge significance for them. Some live on the streets. Some live with daunting diagnoses. So, let’s be mindful of the different scenarios that play out. If today is a joyful day for your heart, I implore you to take a moment to think of those who struggle in some manner…

Unseen Hearts

Candy hearts say Be Mine
Red roses represent forever
Fancy dinners for two in love
A lifetime of together…

Ahh, the joy…
but my thoughts drift to the old man on Anderson Drive
who wears his gray hair long,
surrounded by treasures divine,
and sits outside his raggedy, faded blue tent
that balances on damaged poles,
an office of esteem used to house the chair
that wobbles beneath his body of bones

and I wonder about the young woman
on Lincoln Avenue
who burrows into a weathered, pea-green bag
on the old bus stop bench –
the scratched enclosure keeps her dry
when raindrops fall on cue,
buses pass by, heading to their next hub
by the curb lies an old shoe

and the poor mutt curled up beside his master,
ribs defined – who doesn’t know
why he only gets crumbs to lick up
from the unwashed hand,
but no leash keeps him bound –
he knows not of despair, but loyalty he comprehends

So, I browse over the valleys of my pondering and wonder,
do your thoughts also drift to defeated souls
where hopelessness betrays faith, where life has taken a toll?
Where is their place on this Valentine’s Day?

And now for a mixture of love poems from the past

In Technicolor

A distant memory
in technicolor…
I want to rip the page
from my mind’s
photo album
because my heart
was foolish
to fall for that man,
our skies different
our dreams astray,
but the heart’s pulse
beats to a tune
of its own choosing,
logic holds no leverage.

Though this man
wasn’t a cockroach,
I never wished
to stomp on him.
And so, I’m grateful,
for without that page
I wouldn’t have
stumbled
upon the path
that lead me

to my love at last.

If the Universe Would Share

I whisper to him,
“Do you see that blue
luminous star?
I choose it for you.”

If the universe would share,
I’d pull the gleaming beauty
from the constellations
and place it in the palm
of his hands.

We would sit upon
a slow-moving cloud
and dangle our legs
into freedom.

I’d touch my lips
to his, tenderly,
then hunger would
reel through our veins,
tumbling us into a
pleasant intoxication,

watching moonbeams
pierce our private night sky.

Belonging

Do you trust me? Will you
take my hand and let me
lead the way to a place
transcending boundaries
of our reality? Let us get
lost in tranquility –
dancing to the majesty of
the surroundings, feeling
rhythm vibrate through our
bones. For as long as our
hearts desire, this is our
destination. Time is but
a memory. Its existence
leaves no trace on the path
where we tread.
There is only you, me,
and the intensity
of our belonging to each other.

Try a cookie with a haiku!

Yes, November has arrived, but I have a belated Halloween share,
and last week was a whirlwind! 👻🎉😁

These are chocolate chip cookies I baked for the spooky occasion.
So, let your spirits return to All Hallow’s Eve…
if your nerves get jittery when the sun sinks behind hills
and the wind begins to whistle
and owls screech from high in looming trees
and shadows follow you down the street...

cookies make the ghouls
vanish when the sky turns black
chocolate magic

eyes watch intently
when you indulge in first bite
taste with true caution

crossed or not, they spy
as you move around the house
beware
of cuteness

chocolate chips whisk
worries away in the wind
take one, two, or three!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope this post brought a smile,
and don’t forget to grab a cookie on your way out!
Have a peaceful Sunday and Happy November! 🍂🍁
Give Love
Candy hearts that say Be Mine
Red roses bestowing forever
Fancy dinners for two in love
A special night to remember
But what about the lonely –
The broken hearts and souls?
What about the hopeless
Where life has taken its toll?
On this day where hearts abound
Give love where you find sorrow
Let compassion be your guide
to fashion a better tomorrow
And now for a mixture of love poems from the past
Forever Love (an Acrostic)
Faint is how you make me feel and not
Only when our lips connect, but when I
Remember our first embrace and how my
Emotions twirled inside of me; dizzy and
Voiceless I was and those moments still exist
Even though decades have come and gone
Reflections of those first days are magical
Learning the true meaning of bliss, an
Out of the ordinary feeling, knowing you are my
Valentine, lover and friend for the rest of our life and for
Eternity~
Glue
I stumble over
his broken pieces,
their jagged edges
reach for me.
I want to be
their healing glue.
His mind is weary,
I understand
the layers of his soul.
I want to be his shoulder.
His heart aches
trying to make sense
of it all…
but I won’t let him fall…
I am his remedy.
The World is Broken
The world is broken,
we are aware,
but being alive on this crisp autumn morning,
what a blessing
to behold
and he says,
“The good news
for today is
I love you,
Your heart,
Your mind,
Your soul.”
The world may be broken,
but I am not.
I hope today will be joyful for you from my heart to yours.
Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️❤️
The Sweetness in Life
If we listed in longhand the number of sweet things in life, our lists would be never-ending. We’d write constantly, the pen would never get a rest, the amount of paper we’d need would be extensive, and our hand would begin to scream from exhaustion. Well, I haven’t been writing forever, and you know I’m typing this post, but here are a few sweet things that come to mind, and I hope we never take our lists for granted…
Swimming in a sparkling lake that soothes the body from scorching heat and sweat of the day, reading a book you can’t put down – a real page-turner that interrupts chores, walking beneath a cerulean sky, hiking on a mountain top hearing birds practicing their choral selection sitting high in the tall trees and those sky-scraping trees shading your path, listening to the joyful giggles of children, observing in awe a star-filled night, touching soft, tiny feet of a baby who smiles back at you, witnessing your children’s triumphs, knowing someone gets you, that first fall into love, whispers of a warm, summer breeze, viewing graceful butterflies in flight, new vivid blooms in springtime, unexpected acts of kindness, answered prayers, writing down those thoughts, a hummingbird flitting about, melodies that comfort the heart and mind, and melodies that get you on your feet and make you wanna dance, a creamy chocolate indulgence, and a tender, slow kiss on the lips…truly the icing on the cake.
My son made this carrot cake, my favorite dessert of all,
and believe me, it was divine!
Carrot cake is also the topic of a fun
and sentimental story
in my book, More than Coffee.
Memories, Tears & Sinful Cravings
I heard about this poetry form, Cinquain, during one of my visits to http://purplesplatitudes.wordpress.com. If you get the chance, stop by Michael’s blog. His writing is wonderful and he ventures into different poetry forms and emotions. I know you won’t be disappointed!
I would definitely call these “rough drafts” and more practicing is in the future, but I hope you enjoy…
When they were Young
Giggles,
barefoot on cool
grass, swinging in summer
breeze, smiles bigger than Texas state
the past
Diagnosis
Covered
ears with shaky
hands, unbelievable
echoes of pain flow in and out
fear not?
Chocolate
Craving
comfort food, oh,
something creamy sounds good
gooey, sinfully delicious
dark, though
What’s your pleasure?
I want to create
I don’t want to eat
I just want to bake
some kind of treat
I’ll promise you this
I’ll give it away
I won’t take a taste
I will not betray
It’s fun to measure
and mix up things
that come out pretty
and yummy for kings
So if you delight
in sweets of all types
I’d be happy to make
something tonight
(a little fun for the weekend)
Sweet Rejection
chocolate-covered-strawberries
I offered you my love on a silver platter
lined with chocolate dipped strawberries
You tasted, but only to tease
Instead, you stole my happiness
right out of my hands
although my grip was strong
Very brazen, even for you
and it wasn’t yours for the taking
My heart was wrong for breaking,
but I allowed it
I had a choice and chose the weak path
That was yesterday
Today, my wrath is leading the way
and I will not let you ruin my tomorrows
Craving
chocolate
I’m over you completely
Where once was a sweetness
that entranced your heart
now lies a bitter taste
keeping us apart
and no, I don’t crave
your feather kisses
your warm embraces
or your slow, soft touches
that bring delicious tingles
and you don’t hold my mind
captive each and every day
in every moment I’m awake
or star in my dreams
creating an emotional ache
Of course, I don’t need you,
like the air I breathe
in each day to survive
You can be sure
I’m doing just fine
