Saturday’s Page

A lone bird sings
a song of orange.
The day is gray.
June stays true
with her gloom.
His body next to mine.
Home.
Move forward,
I remind myself.
If I think in reverse,
parts will shut down.
If I think tomorrow,
today will feel unloved.
Coffee calls.
A cool breeze lifts off
like a Cessna.
Bikes on the patio
await our ride.
Not another day
as this one
dreamily written
like a love sonnet.
I hear him wake.
He walks down the hall.
Our story continues.

  1. A beautiful poem, Lauren and I’m so happy you are merrily writing your next children’s book and poetry collection. That’s just awesome. You’re on a roll. We are all busy so it’s all good! Enjoy June my friend and time with the family I hope too! xxx 💗💕

    1. Thanks for your lovely words and encouragement, Darlene. It’s hard to pull back from blogging, but if I don’t, there’s not enough time. And if trad. pub. doesn’t work, then I’ll self-publish C & C, but then I’ll need an editor and illustrator. 🙂 We’ll see what happens. xoxo

  2. Lovely poem, Lauren. These were my favorite lines: ‘If I think in reverse,
    parts will shut down.
    If I think tomorrow,
    today will feel unloved.’
What a great argument for living in the present.

Peggy and I are in Nafplio, Greece, now, down on the Peloponnesian Peninsula. Tomorrow we head for Olympia. Then we will finish off our exploration of the country in Delphi. It’s been a great trip. Nafplio is one of the highlights.

Monday’s post will be about the time I ran into Patty Hearst and her SLA buddies up close to your favorite lake in the Sierras!

    1. Thanks so much, Curt, and I love that you pointed out your favorite lines. They’re a good reminder for me too. 🙂 Your travels sound amazing, as always, and I’m excited for your post! Stay safe and have fun!

      1. Several posts probably, Lauren. Peggy and I are now in Olympia. One of the challenges I always have is that Peggy and I almost always start a new adventure before we finish writing about the last! I sort of follow your philosophy… Why worry.

  3. What a lovely poem Lauren – Life – Moments to cherish now 🌷- Today will never come back so we have to take all that it has to offer. Wishing you a great week my friend😊.
