What makes you really stand out?

Since I loved to sing ever since I was nine years old, I had always dreamed of singing professionally when I grew up. Performing solos in school and special concerts encouraged that dream right along. So, maybe belting out a tune or crooning through a ballad on stage was my way of shining. If we’re gifted with a talent, shouldn’t we share it with the world?

This musical topic was paramount in one of my past stories, “The Way It Was” so it may seem familiar to some of you who read that tale from the past. As much as singing was an integral part of my childhood and teen years, it was no longer my number-one interest in my adulthood.
A passion for writing gently slipped into that slot, becoming an essential part of my daily routine, whether I’m jotting down notes in a journal, penning a poem, typing away on my laptop for another short memoir, or creating a blog post for my long-standing blog. I always hope to inspire others who have read my writing. To give them something to take away – possibly to help ease the pain, or to be reminded that feeling gratitude calms the mind, or to inspire to take that challenge, loosening the grip of fear.

And lastly, now that I’ve recently exchanged pleasant greetings with “60”, a wife of 32 years, and mother of two incredible adult children, maybe, just maybe, my way of shining has always been to be the brightest version of myself for them.
I invite you to answer this question, too…

Thanks so much, Barbara!
Yes, I have felt I was born with a special streak… In childhood my handwriting made my siblings and friends jealous, my singing talent couldn’t be nurtured due to unforeseen tragedies in my family, my ambitions were never given any importance yet I could find my own way to writing! We are all born with some talents but only a few get the right opportunities to let them shine.
Thanks for joining in the conversation, Balroop, and I’m sorry to hear there were tragedies in your family. Life and circumstances do have a way of derailing plans to pursue talents and passions, but I believe there are more to unearth within us even if they’re hidden beneath some layers. ❤️
A lovely post!
Thanks, Rebecca! I’m glad you enjoyed! 💗
I’m still trying to find that one point, lauren. When I do I’ll let you know. 😁
Haha, John! Your writing and brilliant ability to create natural and humorous dialogue makes you shine. My two cents. 🙂
Thanks for joining in the discussion!
Aw. You are so nice. Thank you.
Lauren (sorry)
No worries! 🙂
I wish I had the gift of a good singing voice (my husband probably wishes I had one too 🙂 ) but I can dance fairly well and I love to write. I think you are correct though; we often shine most when we brighten the lives of others.
Thanks for the smiles, Janis. 🙂 Love to hear about the dancing, and of course, writing. I can add dancing for me, too. In those younger years, my hubby and I would go dancing every weekend. Lots of fun memories. Cheers to brightening the lives of others, and thanks for adding to the discussion. ❤️
I have the gift of a good speaking voice and the wisdom to know I can’t sing with a darn. So I’d be happy to talk, but will leave singing to those who have the gift.
Thanks for joining in, Andrew, and for the smiles. What I didn’t mention is that with anything we don’t exercise, it becomes out of shape. So, my singing voice isn’t what it used to be. 😁
The only limitations placed on our achieving objectives we hope to achieve are the limitations we place upon ourselves.
Very true, Ian. As they say, we can be our own worst enemies.
❤ Lovely Lauren, you inspire through your words and I would love to hear you singing. I am just un-earthing my 'thing' so I am protecting it with silence for a while till its wings have dried. ❤ Xxxx
How nice to read your lovely and encouraging words, Jane. Thank you, dear friend. And as for my singing, well, like anything that doesn’t get exercised, my voice is a bit out of shape. But I have those exciting memories to remind me of the time when it wasn’t. 🙂 When the audience’s claps and whistles lifted me off the ground. And my dear friend, you shine through your words, grace, and love that you spread wherever you may be. I smiled when I read you are just unearthing your “thing” and protecting it with silence. I understand, and if you choose to share in the future, this post will still be here. Sending much love and many hugs your way! 💗💜💗💜
Thank you for your lovely thoughts, dear Lauren. I love the energy you describe from your audience after you sang. I sense you still have your voice and am pondering on how other things need our loving energy in different life chapters, so our callings get to have a pause/rest. You are a special soul, Lauren and yes, we will natter about this again. 🙂 Huge hugs and much love flowing to you. Xxx ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Aww, huge hugs to you, too, Jane. Much love flowing your way. 💗🦋💗🦋
Ah, my dear Lauren, you shine in more than one way! Each one of us shine in a special way creating a beautiful sparkling galaxy. Happy Friday, my dear friend! Love and many hugs! xoxoxoxo
What a nice thing to “say” Marina! Thank you, my friend, and I agree…all of us shine in a special way! You also shine in more ways than one! Happy Friday! So glad this day has arrived. 🙂
Sending love and lots of hugs! 💗💗💗💗💗
Hope you have a lovely weekend, shining bright as always 🙂
Thanks so much, Charlotte. Wishing you the same as you continue to shine through your beautiful singing! ❤️
I feel I was born to write snd preserve the family stories.
That’s wonderful. Thanks for joining in, Jeanne.
I’m good at making rockets. Oh, and eating chocolate.
Making rockets, that’s not for me. But eating chocolate I’ve mastered, too. 🙂
Great post, Lauren, you have found a number of ways to shine.
Thanks so much, Mark, and what a nice thing to “say.” Have a great weekend!
A gorgeous post, Lauren. Love your thoughts on how you got to writing eventually. Very glad to have connected with you. Stay blessed ❤️🌷🙏🌻❤️
Thanks, Diana, and it’s great to be connected with you, too! ❤️❤️❤️🦋🦋🦋
You are a lady of many talents. Can’t imagine you not shimmering. ♡
Aww, thanks so much, Audrey! That’s really kind of you. Big hugs! 🌸❤️🌸❤️🌸
Hi Lauren – what a lovely post. I think being the best version of ourselves is both a gift to those who are close, and one to ourselves.
Thanks, Barbara, and I’m happy you agreed with me on being the best versions of ourselves is not only beneficial for us individually, but also to those who love us. ❤️
It is a question that we have all pondered, I am sure. I don’t know if I can say I was born to do these things, but I so enjoy music and visual art. I play flute and piano and like to draw with pencils and pastels.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. It’s wonderful that you can play musical instruments and also draw. Those are wonderful talents to share. I always wanted to learn piano and guitar, so I can do a little on both, but very little. I guess that’s better than nothing. 🙂
I was a singer too, but for me it was drawing. It’s no longer my #1 passion anymore either. Writing seems to be making it’s way into that slot for me as well, which feels so weird! Very unexpected.
I am not a drawer, so I appreciate your skill in that form of art. But it’s okay if your passion has changed, and to find out writing has taken over, well, that’s awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
Lauren, an interesting post and question! How wonderful that singing and performance was such a major part of your life and then later writing took its place as you ‘slipped’ into a routine of writing! I think we all have a dream/ambition/talent and if given encouragement and help we can help to shine in this. Also that over the years this dream can change & adapt. My writing was encouraged from a young age … both at school and home. Early on I learnt how to improve, edit and always READ lots of books! Not that I needed reminding! Some people are almost born with too many gifts and this sows confusion. Thank you for all your inspiring posts filled with care and friendship! hugs xx ❤️
Thanks for joining in this conversation, Annika. It’s been interesting to read the different comments. I’m not surprised to learn that writing was encouraged for you, but you also made a good point: some are born with too many gifts which can be confusing. Thank you for your kind words, dear friend. Sometimes, asking profound questions are fun to throw into a post to see how people respond. Love and hugs to you. xoxo 💗
I used to sing since I was a kid, but then last year I stopped singing. Music is my passion , but I’m no longer putting attention to it. I don’t know why, it’s just like I don’t feel the same way I was feeling when I try to play my guitar and sings. ☹️ Yesterday I try to practice guitar and I wasn’t surprised that I forgot /didn’t remember How I used to play it. But still I am thankful that Music becomes a part of my life, and until now I listen to music.
So you understand how your passion for music can soften, and yet, music still plays an integral part in your life. That’s why singing and music remain important to me, but not at the same level as in those earlier years. Thanks for sharing!
Yes that’s true, it’s like it is part of my life that can’t be removed. Tho Music runs through my blood because both my families are into music. …. Thank you too ❤️
Sounds a familiar path Lauren. I sang when I was young, through teenage years, joined a band, recorded, and thought I was going all the way, until life took a different path. But yes, the writing was always happening. ❤
I recall reading about your musical youth, too, Debby. How wonderful to share similar paths. But then life happens, and your writing is how you shine. One way among many, dear friend. xo
You are too kind my friend. ❤
💗
Ah yes. I love that final conclusion. There is only one You, Lauren, and in the myriad ways you express yourself, you shine. Follow your heart. ❤
Aww, thanks, Diana. You’re too kind. 🙂 And I can think of a zillion ways you shine, too. ❤️
I’ve always wanted to be a singer since I was 10 but my voice broke along the way. I started writing in my late teenage years. I hope I’ll shine at this🤞
I’m sorry to hear about your voice, but I’m sure you’ll shine through your writing. Thanks so much for stopping by and contributing to the discussion.
