Lost Their Way

If hope was a color, mine would be blue,
struggling like a bird with a broken wing
tears fill weary eyes that blur
they fall with an unforgiving sting
My heart imitates emotional skies
unseen roadblocks disguise a silver lining
Wishing is what I do well, miles between,
my hell, mindset craves refining
Well-being and safety are central
forever and always beyond a wingspan
but distance from this familiar coast –
missing so much wasn’t the plan
A welcoming ring brings fleeting ease
the laughter, the conversation flows
then words of goodbye, reluctantly
and my delicate heart knows
I’ve tried my best to be the best, but maybe…
weakness bleeds into the role I play
clock’s hands move faster without you
minutes have lost their way

  1. I love hearing you read your honest raw feelings of emotions Lauren and your beautiful longing of emotions you describe, Lauren! That last line is so good. “clock’s hands move faster without you
    minutes have lost their way”
    💓

      1. My book might be good for you to find comfort, Holly. Ironically, I just did a post today about King Copper, but no pressure at all. 🙂 Sorry to hear about Tide. It’s so hard. Hugs ❤️💔

  2. The beauty of nostalgia, and the blues… the sea waves know them best. 💙 And our hearts, both heavy and light with longing. Lovely poem and reading, Lauren, I enjoyed them both very much! 😊

  3. Your heartfelt words spoken with such feeling, dearest Lauren. 🩵 It’s so lovely to hear your voice. I love how you are weaving colour into your creativity. This is a beautiful poem, capturing the rhythm of our emotions and and sea. 🩵 Nature knows, as does your beautiful soul. Xxxxxx 🩵✨🩵

  4. Lauren, such a lovely heartfelt piece, full of emotions. Isn’t that the purpose of poetry; a release of emotions and joy. I enjoyed the reading and hearing your voice. 💕

    1. Thanks so much, Eugi, and you’re right about the purpose of poetry; joy and sadness find their place in each space and line. Thanks for listening too. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to hearing my voice. 🙂 ❤️🤗

    1. Thanks so much, Dawn, and you’re the first to mention ‘missing your children.’ My words aren’t specific, but you’re a mom who can relate, so you got it. Ahh, it’s so hard, but I’m fine. Our emotions are always good for poetry, aren’t they? I’m sorry your daughter seems farther away too. Too bad we can’t meet up and cry together. 🙂 💙

  5. Beautiful, heartfelt poem, Lauren. Enjoyed reading it and feeling the emotions come through. Our hearts will always feel the weight of the emotions. But we can always speak and share them to feel a bit lighter. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. Thanks for your beautiful words, Mabel, and I love what you wrote: “But we can always speak and share them to feel a bit lighter.” So true, and releasing them from our hearts and minds is a healthy choice. Thanks again! 🥰

  6. Lost… in a sense. Then the phone rings – found!

A lovely poem, Lauren. It’s wonderful how much you love your kids, your family; how much you love.

    And I love that!

    xoxo🌟🥰❤️

  7. Hard to imagine you doing anything but your best, Lauren. But we all slip up from time to time. It’s called being human. Not an excuse, but a reason that one can live with. Very thoughtful, thought provoking poem.

      1. I know the feeling. For a while we had one family living in Alaska and the other in Florida. Both kids now claim there are settled in for good, but we have heard that song before. 😳
