A parking spot brings a smile!

Even though the sky was a stunning canvas of vibrancy yesterday morning, my mind was in a funk. Worries flooded each thought, and each worry got stuck like gum under a school desk. But I had to get on with the day – first stop was the post office. I was happy to see that street parking was ample. As I pulled up to the curb, I noticed the truck in front of me was about to leave, so I waited. When the truck pulled out, I pulled up, leaving room for parking behind me. I’ve done this a million times before, and sometimes finding a parking spot feels like winning the lottery. Plus, it’s nice to be able to park with lots of room rather than attempting to squeeze in between two cars. Why not make things easy for the next person?

After I finished inside, I headed for my car. As I sat with my foot on the break, hands on the wheel about to leave, a woman pulled up beside me, motioning for me to roll down my window, which I did. She said, “I just want to thank you for pulling up so that the lady behind me and I could pull in right behind you. There’s a lot of rudeness nowadays, so we found your gesture to be very kind.”

“Of course, I was happy to do that.” I replied, a bit surprised by her kind gesture for the same reason. Then we both went on our merry way. However, the funk that dominated my thoughts earlier had dissipated because I brought a smile to two women from a little bit of kindness. What could have been a frustrating undertaking for them was made a little easier – the gift of a parking space!

  1. I think a kindness rendered for no reason by a stranger is the most important- and most impressive type of kindness there is. Thank you for this reminder- and the beautiful song too.

    1. Exactly, Brian, which is why I wanted to share mine. This post isn’t about me, but about doing little things to make other’s lives easier. Can you imagine the ripple effect? Maybe the news on TV would shift to a brighter tone too. 🥰

  2. Small kindnesses and being thoughtful are priceless and all flow into the loving energy that lifts us all. Your kindness was loving grace in action, as was the lady taking time to let you know. Like attracts like, lovely Lauren. You are lovely. Xxxx ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️

  3. For some reason, people are always kind and polite at the local post office. I don’t know why. When I go to Walmart, though, it’s just the opposite. People are always arguing and fighting with each other. The other day, a woman deliberately shoved her shopping cart into another customer. I don’t understand this type of behavior. No matter how frustrated I feel, I would never do these things to other people. I let people go ahead of me in line, take the last item on the shelf, etc. It’s certainly better than getting into a fight. Love the video!

    1. That’s interesting, Dawn, and who knows why. My only thought is that everyone has a story, but it doesn’t necessarily justify rude behavior, especially shoving a shopping cart into another customer. Words are one thing and they can hurt. But getting physical is a whole new level of rudeness and unacceptable. I am the same with letting others go in front of me, etc. It takes less energy to be kind than it does to get angry. If only everyone would think this way. Glad you liked the video. Tim McGraw is a favorite, along with this song. Thanks for chiming in. 💞

  4. This was such an uplifting read – becasue we “know” our kindness makes a difference, but rarely do we have someone stop to affirm it – and it was good timing that this lady was able to do that – to thank you.
And your post reminded me of how kindness is contagious and can shake off the funk – ha

    1. Thanks, Yvette, and this line is so true: “but rarely do we have someone stop to affirm it” which is why she caught me off guard. I don’t think anyone’s ever done that before. 🙂 I’m glad you liked this post, and your takeaway is exactly what I’m conveying: “How kindness is contagious and can shake off the funk!” Yes, it can! 🥰

  5. It’s so easy isn’t it? Yet we forget! And you know what, it brought a smile across the ocean too! 😉

    A stunning sky!

    Happy Thursday, my dearest friend!

    1. I know, Marina, so easy, but I’m glad the smile traveled miles across the ocean! Yay! 😁 Thanks about the sky!

Happy Thursday and Friday, my friend! And lots of love and hugs!

      🥰❤️💫🌺😘xoxoxo

  6. This is a lovely read on the importance of kindness Lauren.
I shake my head sometimes at how some people behave.
It often feels to me as if the whole world is angry.
A kind word or gesture does not cost a dime and it makes both parties feel good, win, win.
Thank you for sharing dear friend.
    Have a wonderful day 🌈🤗❤️🥰

    1. Thanks, Maggie, and I agree with all you said too. It takes less energy to be kind and is so easy! At first, I wondered if this post would be silly. Then I thought about spreading kindness, so no, that’s not silly. And maybe one more reminder would be good. Although, I think those who need the reminder the most probably aren’t going to read this post. 🙂 Oh well! I’m glad it resonated!
      Have a wonderful tomorrow! 🥰😘🌷💫xoxoxo

      1. You are correct Lauren..
No reminder should be needed, ever.
Sadly, you cannnot change people either.
We can only lead by example.
        Thank you my friend.💙🌈💙
A good day and wonderful weekend to you xoxoxo

  7. isn’t it amazing how kindness, begets kindness? it can change everything in an instant. people do feel it, it goes right to our hearts.

    1. If only more would see the benefits, think of what the world would be like, how our country would change in a wonderful way. Well, like John Lennon sang, “Imagine…” Thanks for adding to the conversation, Beth. 🥰

  8. This is so true. Kindness makes the doer and the receiver happy. It brightens our day when someone appreciates our small act of kindness. Stay so kind, Lauren!

  9. Hi Lauren, I agree about there being a lot of rudeness about. I experienced this a lot during my current trip and I just wonder why people are so inconsiderate and selfish. It so nice when people do something simple but helpful like you did.

    1. I think social media and instant gratification are factors, Robbie. Just my opinion. I see it in our area, on the roads, in the stores. It’s too bad. But it’s amazing how a small act of kindness can make a positive difference. I’ve never been thanked in person, so this was really nice.

  10. I guess kindness is in short supply in today’s world. I remember when my wife and I were walking in a mall and as usual my wife smiles to those who passed by. A little later there was a tap on her shoulder and a woman moved to face her. “You are the first person to smile at me in a long time. Thank you! She said. A smile costs us nothing.

  11. I agree wholeheartedly Lauren! It’s day to day simple acts of kindness that make the difference. And help us go through worrying days. One of them can bring so much light to our life!

Well chosen song! Thank you for sharing this with us. You made my day!!

Wishing you a lovely weekend to come. Hugs from France. 💙🌞

    1. Aww, I’m so glad I made your day with this post, Marie! Here’s wishing for kindness to spread. Thanks for your wonderful words too. Wishing you a lovely weekend too, dear friend, and I’m sending lots of love and hugs to France! 💗🌷😘

  12. Hi Lauren
We agree with you. There was a German author Bert Brecht, who praised friendliness as the highest virtue.
We wish you a happy weekend

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  13. Endearing story, lovely Lauren and don’t you just love those unexpected moments and angels who come along and brighten the day, like you do so graciously. 🌞 Thank you for sharing. Although part of life, hope the funk you were feeling has moved out! 🩷

    1. Thanks, Michele, and what I did took no thought at all. But I’ve never been thanked in person like this woman thanked me. So that was nice, and nice to know that I brightened her day. And thanks for mentioning the funk; it has moved out! Hope you have a fab weekend! 😍🌷💞

  14. Great story, Lauren. It’s amazing how an act of basic kindness and consideration can have such an effect on others, and ourselves in the doing of it, whether or not it’s noticed. But when it’s noticed, it creates the opportunity for a chance meeting and sharing of goodwill like you experienced. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and find all the parking spots you need!

    1. I’m happy to spread kindness, Carol Anne, and it was nice of that woman to thank me. That’s never happened before, and what I did didn’t take much thought. It’s about consideration for others. And yes, the funk has left for good. Hugs xo

  15. Those little moments of 2-way kindness make my day too, Lauren.

Those of us who know that and live that way, make the world a better place.

What the tarnation are the rest up to?

    xoxx💓oxoo

  16. Lauren, you are so right! Whenever I see someone who needs a kind word or deed or a smile, I always try to brighten their day, and in return, it makes me feel so good! We never know what happened in someone’s life and a smile or kind word, or even sitting down and listening to their story can make a huge difference. Love and hugs to you, my dear friend.
