I didn’t know you then

I didn’t know you then
on that high school campus.
I didn’t pass you by
in the halls of science.

In language of your peers,
your name was common.
I, the wallflower.
You, the chameleon.

You blended into anywhere.
I had my one special niche.
The music building, my haven
just across the bridge.

Popularity didn’t seek me out.
You sported that football jersey.
My legs marched in drill team.
The players didn’t see me.

You and she were solid,
but off, again and again.
We stumbled through the years.
I was meant to meet him.

Then in between the lines,
our paths meandered together.
The reason happened for us.
Life was changed, perfect, better.

  1. Such a sweet poem for Valentine’s Day, Lauren. I think it’s something we can all relate, that high school crush we might have. Nothing like finding a love and it is just so easy being together with the person – not always perfect, but easy, and life is all the richer and better. Hope you had a good day and all is well with you 💝💖

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Mabel. I assumed many could relate to those early teen crushes, and then to finding “the one.” 🙂 Living life with my husband, even after 33 years together, has been easy. That doesn’t mean life has been easy. But having him as my partner to celebrate the joy, but to also lean on each other during the tough times has been a blessing. I’m just grateful. Take care and have a good day tomorrow. 💗💗

      1. You said it well. It’s nice to have a love you can celebrate with and lean on throughout times. It’s lovely to have a partner like that, and always worth appreciating. You have a good weekend ahead, Lauren ❤

    1. Thanks for your lovely words, Jane. And by the way, I’m enjoying your Daily Balm messages. They make me pause and think about what you’re conveying on that specific day. Much love to you! ❤️❤️

    1. Thanks for your lovely words, Lisa. Those high school years seem like yesterday, but they were many, many years ago. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed this poem and hope you had a nice Valentine’s Day. This year, ours was mellow, but after 33 years, that’s fine with us. We actually had a fun weekend, kind of celebrating early. Love and hugs! 💞💞

I appreciate your thoughts!
