Behind the Faces

“Be yourself” is
what they say
Let your mask
fall to the ground
(don’t be afraid)
watch all pretenses crumble

yet if they don’t like
what lies beneath
be aware of the
curve balls of judgment

Where is the truth
in their words?
Each syllable’s tone
sounds compassionate

We could be tone deaf
or maybe we simply
hope for the best

He: You’re easy on the eyes
She: I have to say likewise
He: Can I have your number?
She: Only if you’ll remember
He: Will you go out with me tomorrow night?
She: It would be a delight
He: The night was amazing
She: You have my heart racing
He: Can I kiss you goodnight?
She: I was hoping you might
He: Can I see you again?
She: I’d like that, when?
He: How about us together?
She: I’m thinking forever

It’s almost time to
let sun take its curtain call
one last chance to shine

Whenever you’re near
my heart goes aflutter
No matter my mood
you make me feel better
All flustered and such
I lose my control
from your slow, gentle touch
right down to my soul

I love when you love me
I love being your girl
You have a special way
that makes my mind swirl
Let’s take a ride to the sky
and see where we land
We’ll find magic anywhere
when we’re hand in hand

Harmony

Let there be peace in the world,
more laughter and love for our boys and girls.
Let goodwill and kindness, no matter your color,
be spread through the hearts of our brother.
Let compassion pour through our words and actions,
pulling all violence from our media attractions.
Let there be peace in the world,
to end all suffering for our boys and our girls.

Carousel Dream

She sleeps in her bed
with a comforter made of
pastel colored flowers and
a soft pillow for her head
Dreaming of silvery manes
and bows on white horses
as they ride on a carousel
with draped, sparkling reins
Outside her window, though
she hears shuffles and squeaks
and feels a bit frightful
from the night time show
Mom sings calming tunes
convincing her precious girl
the sounds were only the
language of raccoons
