Hidden

Dear PSC,

Your invisibility plays havoc
On how she is perceived
For when you strike,
She hurts and so do we

You don’t show your face
The pain is from within
But it’s no less horrific
Yet she won’t let you win

She’ll fight with both fists
Even from the ground
You may land a good punch
But you won’t keep her down

Our hearts hurt for her
She’s our precious daughter
We’ll fight you by her side
Come hell or high water

    1. I know she is, Jean, and she’s grateful, too, that we’re so supportive and “there for her.” This past weekend had some rough moments, and there are no words to explain…I’m doing okay now, though, and so is she, for now, thankfully. These moments come and go and sometimes, it just helps for me to write…Thanks for your comment. xo

  1. You set upon the hidden enemy with patience, hope and determination, dear Lauren.By her side, you said in your poem,by her side and united to bring closer the day when all will be like a bad dream. You have chosen the best medicine.Someday, soon I suppose,I’ll be writing another comment on the good news.Love to you, dear friend 🙂 ❤ xxx

    1. Doda, what can I say? Your compassionate words went straight to my heart and I thank you! I hope someday this will all be a bad dream, but I’m also realistic. Of course, being realistic doesn’t negate praying for miracles. Yes, by her side, we’ll always be, to fight this thing, this enemy. I’ll look forward to that good news and your comment, too. Love to you, my friend, and many blessings…♥

      1. My words came from the bottom of my heart, dearest Lauren. My thoughts are with you,and I would also like to thank you for your emotive and beautiful poems, you have put your soul in them!♥ Love & many Blessings to you & yours too ♥

    1. It sure can, Andrew, and thank you for your words. This will be ongoing until a liver transplant is necessary. Sometimes we’re strong and sometimes these moments are more painful, both physically and mentally. She’s better for now and we’re grateful. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving, too…

    1. Yes, we are, even though she’s 24! When our children are hurting, age is irrelevant. Thanks so much, Tric. She’s doing better now and we have to take each “moment” as it comes until transplant time. This last time just brought me down a little more and writing helped…take care and many hugs…

  2. Today,I’m reading your “Thanksgiving” poem,I’ll go on reading one every day and thinking of you.Beautiful collection dear Lauren!Happy Thanksgiving,my friend 🙂 ❤ xxx

    1. Aww, Doda, you are an amazing person and thoughtful friend..thank you for all your support, love and friendship…We have much to be thankful for and will focus on those things each day and on Thanksgiving. Lots of love to you, my friend…xoxo ♥

  3. …and every time you all come out stronger until one day she is completely healed – my wish and my thoughts and my love, with you.
Happy Thanksgiving, my sweet friend to you and your beautiful family! 🙂 xx

    1. I hope your wish comes true, Marina, thank you, my friend! Everyone has struggles of some sort and even so, we all need to be grateful for our blessings, and we definitely are, so our thanksgiving was wonderful. We have today off, which is also nice. Sending much love to you and wishes for a wonderful weekend, as well. xo ♥

    1. You’re right, Binky, and so many are rare like this one, but we’ll never give up; you can be sure of that! Thanks so much for your continued support and Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Wombies, too!

  4. Lauren, my heart goes out to you. Our children are always our children, no matter the age. We will worry about them, hurt for them, fight for them, and love them. Praying for your daughter’s health. Hugs, my dear friend.

    1. Thanks, Michelle. I love your words…we will worry about them, hurt for them, and so on….so true. All is good now. I think last weekend got me down when she had “the pain” for two days. My hubby and I feel so helpless, you know? Anyway, one day at a time, and please know your prayers are appreciated and welcomed. Many hugs back to you and I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving, too…xo

  5. Great, powerful verses and I particularly liked the second stanza..
An aura of mystery, hidden feelings and facts …. but always, despite it all, the promise of redemption and overcoming any sort of troubles… Hope stands up…
Sending love and all my best wishes… Aquileana ⭐

    1. Yes, we will, Sue, and thanks so much for your thoughts, too. Just know they are appreciated! Thank goodness her week was better than last weekend. One day at a time…Many hugs and much love to you, my friend…xoxo

    1. Thanks, Kim. Morrie said the same thing in his book; if he had to deal with ALS all alone, it would have been much more difficult. But since he had family and friends, it was more bearable. So as you said, we are her support system and will do our best to make sure she is okay…she’s been fine since last weekend, so that was a blessing. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers, too. Many hugs, my friend…

  6. I’ve never been a parent Lauren, so I feel this more from your daughters perspective, because I was once a very sickly daughter at the same age your daughter is now. I can still remember the way my parents did so much for me – it was a hard time for everyone and I inwardly I felt such a burden when I should have been out in the world enjoying life, I was struggling to hold onto life. But, I made it, I survived!! I still have some health issues today, but they are much more manageable.

I do feel for you and your family Lauren, it’s very hard to watch someone suffer, I’ve been there too with my parent illnesses many years later – it’s the hardest thing we have to face.

I really wish all the best for your daughter and hope there is some substantial way forward into freedom from illness in this troubled time, and that one way or another she finds herself in a much better place one day. 🙂

    1. Hi Suzy,
This is crazy, but I can’t believe I missed your reply. I happen to be looking back in my archives and I found your comment. I am so sorry! I feel really bad after you opened up about your health, as well.
My daughter is doing fine, except for occasional symptom flare-ups. The future is still unknown as to when she’ll need a transplant, so we try not to think too far ahead. She has a great attitude, which makes all the difference.
Anyway, again, I strive to respond to comments in a timely manner, so I’m really sorry for replying so late. I hope you’re doing well, too, and are feeling healthy and happy. And I wish you all the same as you did for my daughter. Much love to you…xo

I appreciate your thoughts!
