branches
weighed
down
like
shoulders
from
burdens
leaves
chilled
from
air
that
bites
frost-filled
ponderings
surrender
to
the
freezing
How much mettle
is needed to push
against the bulk?
a
defeated
soul
shivers
from
trickles
of
a
chill
but the weight
eventually eases
anguish doesn’t live
in an endless state
breathing always
finds its place
with reasoning
for reassessing
during and after the mess.

A lovely poem, Lauren. I’m sure some who have trouble with the Holidays will find it comforting.
Thanks for your kind words, John, and I hope so.
😊
Such soft, honest words, Lauren… Truly Wonderful …
Love the picture too, but I must admit, it gave me the shivers ❄️😂
Thanks so much for your wonderful words, Willie. I truly appreciate them. It’s been cold here in California, but not as cold as in Colorado when our son took a few photos. When I saw this picture, the words just came. Thanks again and have a great day. 🙏🏻❄️
Yeah it’s been pretty bad here in Illinois. I’m ready for Spring 🤣😱🌸🌼🌻🌺
your words ARE a tonic and the poetic photograph and photographic poetry are pure Michigan! ❤
Thanks so much, Annette! I really appreciate your beautiful words. Our son took this in Colorado, but I’m sure it’s very similar to Michigan. I can’t imagine how cold it is there because we’re feeling the cold here in Northern California. 😁 Thanks again, and stay warm! 💝
Your poem matches the photograph of the tree perfectly Lauren.
The weight does eventually ease!
Thank you for sharing your inspiring words my friend.
Love and hugs xoxo
🌹❤️🤗🥰
Thanks for your lovely words, Maggie. When I first saw this photo, the first verse immediately came to mind, and then the rest flowed. I’m glad you found this poem to be inspiring. Sending lots of hugs and love to you. 💞❄️💝🌻

A great poem by you and a great photo by your son, Lauren! A snow-laden tree can indeed teach humans a lot about patience and perseverance.
Thanks for your wonderful words about the poem and photo, Dave! I’m a little biased, but I think the photos our son took are gorgeous. And I love your perspective of a snow-laden tree. ❄️
Your poem really expressed how I’m feeling right now juggling issues. Well done!
Thanks for your kind words, Elizabeth, but I’m sorry you’re juggling issues, especially at this time of year. I hope things smooth out soon, and don’t forget to breathe. Hugs 💞
Thank you. Things are smoothing out fortunately.
That’s good to hear!
First, things are falling into place with my dad. He’s coming to grips with selling his home and moving into assisted living. I’m helping with that this weekend. He’s 94 in January! Then we had a bad situation that is straightening out that I can’t write about yet, but it’s all working out. Next on the agenda is taking our kids on vacation for Christmas! YAY!
Lauren, this is a beautiful ode to the struggle always present and often more acute in this season.
Thanks so much, Steve. When I saw this photo from our son, the first verse came to me right away. And then the rest followed. I always think of those less fortunate or living on the streets. Thanks again, my friend. ❄️
You’re very welcome, Lauren. There are many to keep in our thoughts. 🙏🏼
A great picture and lovely poem pull up wisdom for the season, Lauren! 💕
Thanks for your lovely words, Cindy! They’re greatly appreciated, my friend. 💞❄️

Thanks, Yvette, and I love that you highlighted what stood out in the poem. 💞
😉
Thank you for the words of comfort, Lauren.
You’re welcome, Liz, and thanks for your lovely words. ❄️
😊
Lovely poem, Lauren with a positive message! Your son’s photo shows winter at its best!
Thanks so much, Carol, and I’ll let my son know. I agree too. 🙂 💞❄️
Lovely poem. It’s already so cold in Colorado!
Thanks, Jacqui! It’s been cold here in No. Cal. but not like CO or TN where the kids live! 🥶❄️
I think winter snow came a little close to where you live this year. Nice thoughts and picture.
Thanks, Ian. The photo was taken by son in Colorado, so far away from the Bay Area. 🙂
breathing always
finds its place
Beautiful, Lauren! Thanks so much for the incredible poem and visuals!

Thanks for your beautiful words, Ernie. I appreciate them very much.
yes, the. photos always help, like a moment shared once again
Thanks, Beth! Yes, a moment shared…I love that. 🥰
Great opening stanza. I love the analogy of snow-covered branches to burdened shoulders.
Thanks so much, Pete! Our son’s photos provided wonderful inspiration. 🙂 ❄️
It’s one of those pieces you read and just quietly nod along to because it feels true. Thanks for writing this, Lauren ❤️
What a lovely thing to ‘say’ Ritish. Thank you! I’m glad you loved this one! ❤️🙏❄️
It looks like a real white Christmas tree. How amazing like your words describing it, Lauren.
It sure does, Hazel. Our son took this in Colorado a few weeks ago. Thanks for your kind words! Have a good day! 💞
My pleasure, Lauren
Beautiful reflections, and the first verse is captivating. Your visuals compliment the photo perfectly.💕
Thanks so much for your lovely words, Eugi. When I saw this photo, the first verse came right away, then the rest followed. I wanted to lift the mood at the end. 💖

Lauren your poem is so lovely and beautiful. So nice to know of you and your family. Great to be an achiever of so many books. Keep it giving. Thanks.
Thanks for your lovely comment, Kamal. Greatly appreciated! 💞
Beautiful photo and poem, Lauren. It is true that weight is only temporary. Xo
You are always welcome dear Lauren ❤️
Your words are truer than you know, Lauren! A friend of mine, who earned his Ph.D. in mental health research, confirmed that the negative emotions associated with a mental health crisis generally dissipate in two weeks. I’ve seen this happen with patients. If people can hang in there and ride the rollercoaster, things do get better. And if they don’t, professional help is available.
Thanks so much, Dawn, and thanks for sharing your professional knowledge too. Lately, I’ve had photos that have inspired some hopeful poems. I hope they help. Thanks again! ❤️
Such a touching poem, the holidays can be difficult for many but it’s important to remember that things do get better eventually. 💗
Thanks for your kind words, Pooja, and so true. 💝
You’re most welcome 💗
A beautiful poem Lauren
Thank you, Sadje! 🩵

Thank you for sharing your comforting poems Lauren. We need wisdom from time to time. And it’s refreshing to know that pain will ease with time and life will take over. Sending you love for a peaceful and beautiful day 🙏🏻!
Thanks for your wonderful words as always, Marie. I’m glad you found wisdom in this poem, and yes, the pain will eventually ease. Sending you love and many hugs, my friend. ❤️🌻❤️
Beautiful photos and words! Your mention of burden, I feel it, such a good visual with the tree. Perhaps thats also why Ive felt so drawn to the heavily snow covered trees and plants!
Thanks so much, Pamela. I hope you have a peaceful weekend. ❤️
Your words are awesome Lauren! A big thank you for your lovely message, and words! ❤
Aww, thanks, Carol Anne! Your wonderful words mean a lot! 💝
A lovely poem, Lauren.
It is heavy, like the snow on the boughs.
Thank you!🌟❦
