A Breeze

Have you ever stopped to think
about the impression of a breeze…
how it brushes aside your face
like the tender touch of a lover?

I have a hunch you know
what I’m talking about…

when a heat wave invades
your personal space –
oppressive,
and each breath is as difficult
as lifting a hundred pound
bag of bricks,

a breeze, simple as one is,
whisks in as lovely as the sun ascending
in tangerines and corals over the hills
after a mass of worries
pervaded your night’s sleep.

Relief so friendly and delightful
as though being welcomed
into a new neighborhood
with a smile

and a freshly baked plate of cookies.

So, next time a breeze
leaves a soft touch upon your cheek,
place your palm over the connection,
inhaling gratitude

because sometimes,
sometimes,

the simplest of things
makes the biggest impact.

  1. How lovely, Lauren! There’s nothing more relaxing, yet exilarating then a cool breeze. Enjoy your visit with your family and stay safe. 💗

    1. Thanks so much, Gaby! I’m glad you enjoyed this poem. It was inspired by summer that has been hotter than usual. 🙂 Aww, and I will miss this community, too! Thank you! I’m also happy you liked the photo. I took it on a walk around the neighborhood. Stay well, my friend. 🩷

  2. The last time a cool breeze touched my face was early this morning, pre-dawn, as I walked across the parking lot of my apartment complex to check my mailbox. It was 54 degrees and the breeze was so unexpected, fragrant, refreshing and startling…and very much welcomed. Your poem inspires the best memories, Lauren. That’s what good poetry does, and you do it so well, my friend. Have a wonderful weekend. 😊🌸

    1. What a wonderful walk to have received the touch of such a refreshing breeze, Mike. I’m envious because it’s hot again today, day #4. But this poem was born after an 8-day unprecedented heat wave in July. It was awful without a/c. Then when it ended, we were sitting on our patio and a breeze touched my face. It was like an aha moment. 🙂 Anyway, we’ll soon be complaining about the winter! And you are so kind with your encouraging words that I truly appreciate. Have a good weekend too, my friend. 🤗

  3. Ahhhhh yes Lauren, a gently breeze brushing against your face resonates profoundly my friend. It can certainly leave a lasting impression. Beautiful poem. May a gently breeze brush against your face this weekend! Hugs and smooches. 🥰💖😘💐🌞

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment, Kym, and I’m glad ‘this breeze’ resonates with you. This poem was born from a long, unprecedented heat wave in July, and this week has been hot again. But last night, we sat on our patio and were finally touched by another breeze and it was sheer bliss! 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend! We’re leaving tomorrow to visit our daughter, so I’ll see you in a week or so. Take good care, and hugs and smooches to you! 🥰🧡🍁🤗🌻⭐️

    1. I’m glad this poem was timely, Resa, and I hope your weekend is relaxing. This summer has been the hottest summer ever in the 25 years we’ve lived here. And we don’t have ac because it was never needed decades ago. But a poem was born, so there’s the silver lining. LOL And this week has been hot again, so I’m very ready for autumn. Anyway, we’re leaving tomorrow to visit our daughter, so I’ll see you in mid Sept. Sending love and hugs! 🧡🍁🌻

      1. Oh WOW! Have a blast with your daughter.
I bet you come back with some poem gems from that trip!
Bon Voyage, be well and HUGS!
        🍂🌾🧡🌟

  5. This is a beautiful poem and really made me think of and appreciate times when a breeze has brought much-needed relief from the heat. Thank you, Lauren, and I hope your weekend is light and breezy! 😊

    1. Thanks so much, Steve! I’m glad you understand. 🙂 And we’re back to a heat wave. Sigh. We’re flying to TN tomorrow to visit our daughter and SIL, so I’ll see you mid month. I’m signing off soon; today has been a busy day. Stay well, my friend! 😁

  6. Beautifully said ❤️There’s nothing like a gentle breeze on a hot day to make everything feel right again. It’s like a big hug from nature. I love how you described it.

  7. Very good poem Lauren. As always, I enjoy your incredible poetry and this one titled “A BREEZE” is spot on💯🔥🔥

Plus, I like the use of metaphors such as it is as hard as lifting a bag full of bricks_ damn that phrase is good🔥

Lastly, keep up the good poetry my friend. God bless your month of September 2024🙏👑

  8. Lauren, this is a tender and poignant poem; your reflections beautiful and tangible. The final line is profound and a reminder to us all:

    because sometimes,
    sometimes,

    the simplest of things
    makes the biggest impact.

    Just so!

Hope you’re making a speedy recovery, my friend. Remember to take it easy a little as you fully heal. love & hugs, Annika xx 💕

    1. Hi Annika, thank you so much for your beautiful words, and I love when friends highlight the lines that stood out for them. I’m much better, and today, I’ve returned to the land of living and to the land of blogging. 🙂 What a past week! But I appreciate your wishes because I’m going to ease back into life. Love and hugs to you, my friend. xoxo
