The Promise

wedding-001

They are only words spoken from the mouth
Consonants, vowels, and various sounds

Their significance can be minute or grand
Depending on outlook and where one stands

Along the journey there may be potholes
So endurance must settle deeply in the souls
For as time passes and age becomes clearer
The bond that has formed becomes even dearer

I take you to be my lawfully wedded husband,
To have and to hold, from this day forward,
For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer,
In sickness and in health, until death do us part

I would say these words again without hesitation
Because he is my breath in all creation

(Today is our 28th wedding anniversary) ♥ ♥ ♥

  1. Awww Lauren.. Congratulations you two… Have a fabulous wonderful day… Wishing you a Happy Anniversary.. Lots of LOVE.. 🙂 And Many many more happy years of togetherness.. xxxx ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. Thanks, Andy, and what a great memory of your grandfather! Fifty years is something to be proud of. My parents were married almost 67 years before Mom passed five years ago. My Dad will be 98 this year and he’s still doing pretty well! 🙂

  2. Congratulations (obviously. 🙂 🙂 🙂 ) and may you both enjoy many more together.

Last month was our 30th. But then this was my second attempt. My first wife went to the dark side. Some years later he left her and went off with her close friend. What do they say? “What goes around comes around.”

    1. Thanks, Ben, and wow, your 30th! Congrats, too, and that’s awesome; we’re almost there. 🙂 As to your first wife, you are too funny, and yes, what goes around comes around. 🙂

      1. No apology required, Lauren. I knew what you were saying and was neither affronted nor upset. I assume your sense of humour was tickled by a mental picture of her doing an Anakin. Given enough time a thing can be viewed with humour instead of pain, or at least alongside it. I’m sure you know that well enough anyway. 🙂

      2. Thanks, Ben! Yes, Anakin did come to mind. 😊 From my experiences, after some time, the pain does subside and lighter emotions come into play. So I’m glad I didn’t offend you; that would never be my intention….

    1. Thanks so much, Shian! We were together a year before tying the knot, so 29 altogether. It’s a long time to be with one person, happily, so I feel very blessed but not to brag, just blessed. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, Ian! We watched our wedding video after so many years of seeing it and was it surreal, joyful memories, but bittersweet also because of many people who have passed in the last 28 years…

  3. Wishing you a very Happy Anniversay! 😀🎉 I hope you had a wonderful day of celebrations. Lovely post in honour of your union and marriage as a whole, not often one sees the vows written down and reading them slowly take on board their solemnity. Fantastic final line, wow – so happy for you and your complete and spiritual encompassing love: ‘Because he is my breath in all creation.’♥️

    1. Aww, thank you, Annika, for your lovely comment. He is my breath in all creation and I feel very blessed. We had a wonderful celebration and it’s hard to believe that it’s been 28 years since that day. As you said, it is much different reading the vows and really understanding their meaning. Thanks again, and have a wonderful day! ♥

  4. Lauren, Happy Anniversary to you and your beloved husband. Wonderful sentiments expressed here. Feel blessed, too, for the longevity of your relationship in these times where so many marriages fail. Andrea and I just had our sixteenth anniversary and it seems as though we stood together for those vows just a few short days ago. Our second marriage, we have surpassed many hurdles and rest much more comfortably in trust and a loving friendship.

May you share each other for all your days.

    1. Thanks so much, Don, for your wonderful words. Congratulations on your anniversary as well; sixteen years is a long time and I’m glad you found happiness, love, and contentment the second time around too. I haven’t been blogging much, just off and on, so I hope life continues to treat you well. I appreciate all of your comments and visits here too. Take care. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Sue, it’s nice to hear from you and to know I’m not forgotten. I’ve been so out of blogging lately. All is well here, so how are you doing? I think of you often also! Sending hugs to you too! xo

    1. Thanks, PJ, and so good to see you! I haven’t been blogging, but I check every so often. Congratulations to your parents also; that is awesome! Hope you’re feeling good these days too. I think of you often. Hugs and blessings, my friend..❤️

I appreciate your thoughts!
