The Giver

He pulls me
into myself so
I may see
qualities
he loved from the beginning

though his perception
runs deeper –
mine, a trace of clouds,
then he lifts
my heart and
soul to the starlit sky where
our dreams become us.

The World is Broken

The world is broken,

            we are aware,

but being alive on this crisp autumn morning,

what a blessing

                        to behold

and he says,

“The good news

for today is

I love you,

Your heart,

Your mind,

Your soul.”

The world may be broken,

                                    but I am not.

Tender Reminiscence

Remember in our younger years
how you’d touch your lips to mine
while standing on the step
when we cold-shouldered time?
No letting-go desire of the
embrace that held us near
No care in the world was matched
in that moment that we shared
Who knew those doorstep kisses
would carry us this distance?
(floating in a state-of-mind
of tender reminiscence)

Do you have memories
of doorstep kisses?

In Technicolor

A time so long ago,
yet the memory
in technicolor…
I want to rip the page
from my mind’s
photo album,
because my heart
was foolish
to fall for that man,
our skies different
our dreams astray,
but the heart’s pulse
beats to a tune
of its own choosing,
never inspired
by logic,
nor will it ever be
shatterproof.
But this man wasn’t
a cockroach.
I never wished
to stomp on him,
like others
who preceded.
And so, I’m grateful,
for without that page
I wouldn’t have
stumbled
upon the path
that led me
to my love at last.

The World Travelers

In those early years
when possibilities
lined up on their doorstep,
they saw themselves
roaming streets of Italy,
savoring pasta,
sipping Frappato.
They saw themselves
walking streets of France
in a cloud of romance.
They saw themselves
driving roads of Ireland
flanked by lush green
countryside.
But over time, they learned
plans can be navigated
only so far
before life takes the wheel.
They haven’t sipped Frappato
or walked warmly
in that cloud,
and they haven’t
witnessed
that countryside…yet.
But over mountains,
through down pours
and gusty winds,
and days when
sherbet-colored skies
lifted their spirits,
their fingers remained
intertwined.

Not only has love
in their hearts prevailed,
but cravings still carbonated
for each other’s company.
It seems they have traveled
the trip of a lifetime.

If the Universe Would Share

Look to the galaxy, My Love.
The blue luminous star
I desire to be yours.
If the universe would share,
I’d pull the shimmering beauty
from the constellations
and place it in the palm
of your hands
next to my beating heart.
I wish we could sit upon
a slow-moving cloud,
dangling our legs
into freedom.
Our eyes would show
the emotion in our hearts.
Lips would touch, tenderly,
then with hunger
reeling through our veins
like magnetic energy.
We’d fall into
pleasant intoxication,
watching moonbeams
pierce our private night sky.

The Kiss

Those bedroom eyes…
It’s in the gaze
before the leaning
a little heavy breathing
mesmerizing to the core
sweet, slow motion

an electric pull
tingles stirring
toes curling
body heat rising
in warm embrace
hands roaming
head spinning
global tilting

Magically unforgettable
Blissfully memorable
Sinfully intoxicating
Simply delicious…
when lips unite!

Winter’s Gift

fireplace-edited

The colors mesmerize
They dance across your face

Flames conduct a jazz recital
My heartbeat meets their pace

Your eyes gaze at me
With a hunger that feeds
You touch with your thoughts
Fulfilling all needs

Wrap me in your warmth
With soul, body, and mind
Touch my lips so gently
To taste the sweet, sweet wine

January

It’s probably climate change,
Debatable to some.
Digital digits
climb to seventy –
a perfect number
for July,
but not for January
where plump raindrops
should be soothing
the gardens.
Still…
The sun fades into an inky sky.
The moon enters on cue.

Listen…

Shh…

On the hilltop, lights wink
as if to say hello.
The grill hisses,
while Chardonnay sips
allowing muscles to loosen,
thoughts to calm –
Saturday night
contentment.
