Happy 7th Birthday, Copper!!
I remember where you lived
as we walked to the door,
a little cramped for three
dogs on one tiny floor
But after a ten-minute walk
we took you to our car,
you jumped in the back
and it was only the start
You couldn’t see how
your life was changing
We had no idea just how
much we’d be gaining
I wonder where you’d be
if we hadn’t seen that site
Nothing matters now, though,
because everything is right

Last weekend, my husband and I went to a corn maze that our kids raved about. The maze is on four acres of land, and the design changes each year. It only took us 38 minutes to get through-record time, but we got lost in the beginning. A very strange and almost unsettling feeling, like being in the middle of a forest, trying to find your way out.
Needless to say, we found the exit, but the experience was so much fun. We ran into the same groups of people; everyone went in circles at some point. The middle two photos were taken from a platform overlooking the entire maze.
At the end, we walked around, enjoyed the country environment, but also felt a bit old, as little kids played in the corn box and on the hay stacks (weren’t our kids that young just yesterday?).
When we were ready to leave, we spotted the pumpkins, and since I love fall colors, I couldn’t leave without a photo of the vibrant gourdes. The other odd looking pumpkins are called “peanut pumpkins”-we’ve never seen these before; have you?
And yes, when we had a moment alone, in the midst of the maze, we stole a kiss. ♥

I think we all strive for more than temporary happiness, but I’m guilty for eagerly anticipating the weekends. Those are two days in which I can live by my own schedule and do whatever I please. That being said, I’m extremely grateful for our jobs and
on a deeper level, we should embrace each day for the gift it is.
This quote by Vikrmn conveys several points, not all agreed upon, but the larger meaning for me is to focus more on concrete happiness and to allow oneself to dream big – the photo was another gorgeous sunset from last week.
Sometimes an ordinary event is most meaningful. The photo below was taken when I visited my daughter at her work. We’re grateful she is now employed full time after graduation and she’s enjoying it. This was a simple day surrounded by beauty.
May your “today” be blessed and every day following, and may you live in the simplicity of what makes you happy. ♥

Have a fabulous Friday and weekend! ♥
My family is pretty outdoorsy; we enjoy hiking, biking, camping, swimming, etc. What better way to clear the mind than to be one with nature. The flora and fauna, the big blue sky, the mountains in the distance, the smells, the sounds of the ocean…these are all gifts to us. We have beauty in our backyard to be cared for and to be appreciated. Not to mention the necessity of scooting back the chair, turning off the computer, stepping outside to get some exercise, and inhaling some fresh air.
This photo was taken years ago at a favorite destination, Samuel P. Taylor State Park. It’s spread out among beautiful redwood groves and is truly magical. Our children were much younger then. Some of you know our daughter graduated from college this year and our son has three years to go. They’re now young adults, however, there is no age limit for this beautiful place. From young to elderly, many enjoy camping here, spending a day of play in the creek after picnicking, or simply enjoying some quiet walks while contemplating life.
In closing, I’ll repeat this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, which becomes more profound each day as lives become busier in this progressive world of technology:
“Adopt the pace of Nature; Her secret is Patience.”

(Sporadic posting is alright if you’re unable to post each day.)

Have you ever wondered how you’d meet your soul mate? In sixth grade I actually believed that I’d be a wife and a mom with two children at the age of twenty-four. I had it all planned out. However, I didn’t meet my husband until I was twenty-six and my second child wasn’t born until I was thirty-four so clearly my plan was overdue!
We met while working for the same company. During that time I decided to move and I needed to sell my refrigerator. I placed an ad in the break room and later that night he called me to buy it. I suggested he look at it first so he came over to my apartment the next night, checked it out and bought it! The plan was for him to pick it up the following Saturday.
On Saturday he drove to my place using a friend’s truck, loaded the frig and we chatted for a bit before he left. Through our conversation I discovered the apartment complex I was moving to was only ten minutes away from where he lived. It was almost too perfect…
After the frig was all bought and sold, the next weekend he called me while visiting his family for Thanksgiving and as a nice gesture he sent me flowers. Upon his return home he asked me out and I didn’t have to think about it! I felt something I had never felt before, obviously something was happening! The rest is history! We dated for six months, he popped the question and we were married six months later.
I don’t have a photo of that magical frig and we later sold it but after almost twenty-seven years of marriage, that appliance brought us together. Funny how things happen. This is one example of how accidental meetings sometimes work out better than looking for love “in all the wrong places.” And that, my friends, is a brief summary of how a simple appliance can become a “love connection!” 🙂
