Yesterday, I met a friend for breakfast, and then we took a walk through downtown and the neighborhood. We both were struck by the beauty and uniqueness of this sign that is not uncommon to any of us. So, below are thoughts that came to mind in the form of haiku:
when children are near absorb their laughter, the joy flowing into you
snails teach with their wise leisure movements, taking in beautiful backdrops
slow down your travels do not let decades escape catalogue moments
pause in your footsteps regard life’s celebrations breathe in their fragrance
I wanted to share a Christmas poem, but the words just weren’t flowing. So, you won’t read anything fancy today, only that I’m taking a breather from blogging for the holidays and this will be my last post until I return sometime in January. As we all know, breaks are necessary so that we can recharge our minds, bodies, and spirits. But before I go, I want to thank you all for your continued support! It has beenwonderful to meet and get to know so many talented artists in this virtual community.
On that note, I wish you all a holiday filled with Peace, Joy, and Love, everything we’ve heard before but all we truly need. ❤️
Copper wishes you a Merry Christmas, too, and he hopes you get lots of treatsand slobbery kisses! Speaking of treats, here is a small sample of my Christmas cookies that I bake each year.
Sending holiday hugs, stay safe, be well, and I’ll see you in 2022! Cheers, Lauren ❤️🎄❤️
WordPress tells me that it’s been 8 years since I embarked on this blogging journey. As most of you know, I created this blog around my 50th birthday after encouragement from my son (then 15 years old). Becoming a blogger never entered my mind, so it was similar to taking a step into a whole new world.
Let me tell you that it’s been such a wonderful experience, and although it’s been 8 years since inception, I didn’t become truly active until the following year. But who’s counting, right? This virtual adventure has been a “cup runneth over” experience between meeting people from all over the world, making new lovely friends, exploring art in every form, learning new styles of poetry, having the ability to share my writing, and then, of course, to receive the abundance of support throughout the years.
So, will you celebrate with me? I’d love it if you would because the more, the merrier!
And below I’m including a poem I wrote a few years back about this amazing experience…
Connections
I pondered long and hard for the answer wondering, wavering of emotions inside How relative time has been in this journey this crazy, happy, emotional ride
The voices unheard, yet heard of so clearly in universal languages for all to hear The faces unseen, yet seen in tiny glimpses of those who opened their windows for air
How thoughtful the praise each time I read How warm my hopeful heart became How humble it felt from deep within How grateful my soul will surely remain

SO HERE’S A BIG THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR LOVE, FRIENDSHIP, SUPPORT, AND ENCOURAGEMENT OVER THE YEARS!
For the past week, we’ve had some unexpected guests, a mama and daddy finch. They’ve given us the pleasure of watching their home-building process inside our gazebo, and sometime soon, cute little baby chicks will complete their feathered family.
Yesterday’s entertainment came when daddy began playing on my car side mirror. Actually, it appeared that he was fighting for his territory. Little did he know that what he saw was his own reflection, and the third photo, you see a glimpse of his tail only. So, I grabbed my cell, zoomed in, and took these photos before he took flight. If you also look closely enough, you’ll see that I have some cleaning up to do. 🙂
It was fun to watch this little guy, as long as he didn’t hurt himself, which wasn’t the case. When it was time for me to leave and I was nearer with Copper in tow, he took flight without hesitation. I was happy to catch his wings all a flutter, though, before he went on his merry way. I’ll keep you posted with their growing family…
The last photo is the homemade carrot cake I baked for a dinner we went to last night with friends. It was a potluck, and all the food was delicious, not to mention, the company was great. Do you like carrot cake? It’s my ultimate favorite…always…forever and ever…
If only that ‘share’ button was literal; I’d offer you a taste. 🙂
It’s incredible how we become one big family here on WordPress. I’ve been blogging for about six years now and “met” Kim in those early days. She had become a wonderful friend, and her writing was honest, raw, and beautiful. I had often thought that if I made it to her side of the country again, we may have the chance to finally meet.
I knew she had been struggling with her health lately, but when I found out she had passed, it hit hard. The finality is tough to deal with, but even though this sounds cliche, I’m so grateful she’s no longer suffering. I believe Kim viewed life as one big adventure – to live it to its fullest…
Below is a beautiful poem Kim wrote for a woman who was going into hospice care, a woman who was like a mother to her. As I read Kim’s words, I realize how much they relate to her new journey now and to how her family and friends are feeling.
All things are possible
I know the road before you is long and hard it would be so easy to lay down your load breathe in the tranquility of everlasting rest as you climb the ladder to your promised reward I know the challenges you face wrestling with the peace calling you and the comfort of loved ones pulling you you have done your time it is your choice if you take this path to glory take the gift of love from those who care lean on their strength to find your way you are in my heart I care more than the words express selfishly I want you to stay there wasn’t enough time to do the many things there are to do to share the words silently kept my life was enriched by you you are a part of my soul and forever I will keep your spirit close
Selfishly, we would want you to stay, Kim, but, it was your time for eternal rest, to be free of pain and suffering. Just know that You have enriched the lives of so many who loved you and cared – family and friends…We will miss you dearly, and “You are in our hearts and we will keep your spirit close.” ❤
