Young Minds

Their imaginations carried them
into the African Savannah
keeping watch for a parade
of animals on the hunt
They chose not to be prey
if avoiding such demise
was possible –
Suddenly, their feet stopped
in their tracks,
as fear crept up the backs
of their necks –
A thunder-booming growl
echoed throughout the grassland
The next move meant life or death
Then a meow joined the growl
Terror escalated
as they held their breath,
mirroring an owl’s innate ability,
afraid to make a sound
Then when Mom yelled,
“Lunch is ready,”
fear subsided and
their adventure came
to an abrupt halt –
until next time
when their imaginings
became alive again

(When we arrived at our campsite,
we noticed some visitors.
So I became inspired right away. 🙂 )
Just some fun randomness!
First of all, our little finch family has flown for good. It wasn’t long after the babies had hatched that the whole family had soon left. In our minds, it happened so fast, and unfortunately, we weren’t able to say good-bye. Well, it was fun watching the process – first time for everything, and now that Mr. & Mrs. Finch know our house is a safe haven, they just might return if they decide to grow their family. 🙂
Secondly, my husband and I are leaving this weekend for a camping adventure. It’ll be fun to get away, to immerse in some relaxation, hiking, and swimming. We both love time spent in the mountains, among the freshwater lakes and majestic pines. There’s just something special about that mountain air! Needless to say, I won’t be blogging, but I’ll return later next week. And for fun, I’m sharing some photos that may bring a smile…

Copper’s having fun, but who’s winning?

What a beautiful, fluffy, summer sky!

Finally, a sunflower bud, so we’re still eager for the blooms.

On a walk with Copper, look who we saw prancing!

And these flowers popped out, too. Just lovely and friendly,
don’t you think?
I plan to do some blog-reading until we leave; otherwise, I’ll see you when I return to city life and technology. Until then, take care and stay safe. Lauren 🌼❤🌻
It’s the Pits

You open the door
and again, once more
You smell that smell
that comes from hell
Though you pay the price
beneath the stars and sky
So you do your thing
and you feel like a king
Then you open the door
and again, once more
You breathe in the pines
and everything is fine
(Let’s just say, inspiration
comes from many places.)

The Simplest of Treasures

It’s not uncommon to find sentimental possessions after parents move on to their eternal life. When my husband and I camped earlier this month, and while preparing for our first dinner, I found the box of silverware that we always use. This set came from my parents, who used it at our cabin in Big Bear, CA back in the sixties and seventies. How funny that I can vividly remember using it in our rustic mountain get-away, even though I was very young. It’s amazing how some memories stay in our minds over the years.
Anyway, after arriving home, then in the midst of doing camping clean-up, it dawned on me that I didn’t want this set stashed away in the camping tub anymore – not to be seen or used until the next trip, which currently is unplanned. This set of black silverware suddenly held an abundance of sentimentality and tugged at my heart. I even broke down during that first night of camping after coming across this treasure, crying hard for several minutes. Oh, how my heart was hurting…Yes, I’m still grieving, but I’m also appreciating those vivid, loving memories.
Then I thought even deeper and had a good talk with my husband about how sturdy this set is to have lasted through about five decades! No, it’s not fancy, and black doesn’t match the interior of our home; however, it is neutral, versatile, and durable (as we now know). So, as much as I love to coordinate decorations, themes, and colors, I’m bending my own rules because this black silverware has become a vital component in our kitchen. Whenever we use it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we think of my parents, Mom’s excellent cooking, the conversations that flowed around the table, and family love and contentment that followed those delicious meals. It just goes to show that the simplest of treasures can hold the most significance.
Do you have a similar story to share about a simple treasure that means a lot to you? If so, I’d love to read it…

Hugs a Plenty
Someone needs a hug
if you look real close
wearing a smile upside down
in need of a big love dose
Revealing a long wide frown
it just might be you
to brighten their day
and bring their spirits around
They might be too shy
to ask you face to face
so it’s up to you
to offer with grace
Share some warmth
the cost is nil
but the gift is big
in a simple embrace

I’m not sure if the kitty was happy,
but I know my son was thrilled
and he was definitely sharing
a warm embrace~ 🙂
Wishing you all a Wonderful Wednesday!
