The much-loved patio welcomes
with its rustic warmth
and strands of string lights,
the bar stools invite us
to get comfortable for a visual feast
of rolling hills and redwoods.
His hand finds mine;
his words express that I’m most important,
in three months, glasses will clink
to celebrate 37 years –
the 26-year-old girl who met a
27-year-old guy. My words echo his,
but of course, our daughter and son
are the center of our life…
And the weather? Short sleeve
temperature, sublime, serene.
October brings
a summer night’s dream.
Silence flows in with its
special kind of conversation.
Fleeting minutes like these
aren’t taken for granted
because it’s not every day
our perfect dance partner
comes our way,
and although we grow older
and flaws become bolder,
our melody continues to play.
Light neighborhood chatter
drifts through the trees
with an occasional hummingbird
on its tail and a slight breeze.
The moon elegantly hangs
in her dazzling formal attire,
vying for our attention,
and she succeeds
because we are devoted fans.
Her glow mesmerizes –
our focus on her alone.
What a beautiful moment
to call our own.

I am so glad you take none of this for granted- as the majority will never know what that kind of love feels like. Congrats you two- not on a number of years so much- as the quality of the love you share.
Thanks for your lovely comment, Violet. Life isn’t perfect for us; we’ve had some tough times through the years. But finding each other was a blessing and our children were two more blessings. And I like how you mention the quality of love. It’s so true – couples may stay together for a long time but devoid of happiness. The fact that we still like and love each other is something to celebrate. Thanks again! ❤️
A lovely moment, Lauren. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your lovely words, John. 😁

Such a warm, lovely poem!
Thanks for your lovely words! 💝
💕
Nicely done.
Thanks, Jacqui! I know you’re not big into poetry, so I appreciate you reading. 🥰
I do appreciate the effort that goes into poetry. It just doesn’t resonate with me as music or art does.
I understand, Jacqui. I always appreciate your feedback and kindness. 🥰
That is such a beautifully personal poem, I felt like an intruder just reading it. A special moment in time captured in words! Fantastic!
Thanks, Jan, and a new perspective! You’re amazing, but you didn’t intrude. I invited you in. 🙂 And I appreciate your wonderful words. 💝
You have such a talent for expressing emotions and including us in those scenes so we can vicariously experience your joy of living.
What a wonderful thing to ‘say’ Ian! You have a way with comments! Thank you so much! 🙏
I hope I didn’t include this comment twice. But here goes. “…and although we grow older and flaws become bolder, our melody continues to play.” Beautiful sentiment and love the play on words. A wonderful poem Lauren. Congratulations to the two of you. Thirty eight years takes work and commitment!!
I didn’t see two comments, Brian, so you’re good! 🙂 Thanks so much for pointing out those lines and for your kind words. I really appreciate them, along with your good wishes. In January, we’ll begin the clinking! 🥂 It is a long time and it’s hard to believe. But I’ll say that if the love and friendship is strong, then the work is easy. Thanks again! 🙏
Thank you for your poetry, Lauren. Your love is an inspiration! 💖
Thank you for your beautiful words, Carol! I appreciate them so much! 💝
It is a beautiful and romantic poem. I assume it is about you. Congratulations on your 38 years. As a side note; if you remember the reblogging problem I had. The Happiness Engineers can repeat the problem. It is site wide new bug and they are working on fixing it.
Thanks, Thomas, and yes, this is about my husband and me. It was a nice Saturday night when this poem came to mind. In the poem, I wrote “in three months” so our 38th anniversary will be in January. Thanks for your good wishes! 🙂 Glad to know they’re working on the bug! Thanks again!
In three months. That is great.
Thanks again, Thomas. Where did all the years go? 🙂
Yes we had our 34th anniversary last July, so we are just four years behind you, well three and a half.
That’s wonderful too! Happy belated 34th! 🎉
Thank you Lauren
Sounds like an anniversary. Congratulations on 38 years of being together. Admirable! It’s a heartfelt poem.
Thanks for your lovely wishes, Hazel. Our anniversary is in “3 months” like I wrote in the poem. 🙂 But thank you! I appreciate your kind comment. 💝
My pleasure, Lauren.
The melody still sounds great when you’re with the right person, making music together.
So beautiful Lauren! Your love and your poem. It’s always a pleasure to read your thoughts so nicely penned. We can feel the melody you two played and keep playing and the peace within. 🧡
Love and Hugs from France!
