Spillwords Press publishes “Chilling Embrace”

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to share that Spillwords Press has published my poem “Chilling Embrace” in their Featured Post section and is live today. It is a great honor to have my writing spotlighted on their site again, and to be in the company of so many talented authors.

Chilling Embrace

I have been embraced
by the chilling presence
of loneliness.

I have wondered
where the niche
designed for me
exists in this world
in which my breaths
originate.

I have waited
for the glow
to emerge from
behind the shadows.
..

I would love if you would hop on over to Spillwords and read the rest of the poem here. You don’t need to log in to give it a lovely ❤️, but you do need to if you’d like to leave a comment. And I do love comments, but either way, I would greatly appreciate your time and support. And just like another sunrise brings hope, your continued support brings new gratitude. 🙏🏻

Thank you again to Dagmara K. and her team for accepting my submission. I am thrilled and truly grateful!

Thank you for stopping by! ❤️

  1. I love the poem, Lauren. The second half nicely balances the first, leaving one with a positive outlook; nature is always so reliable. Good way to start the day.

I tried to leave a ❤️ on Spillwords but it wouldn’t register. So here it is… ❤️

  2. Totally relatable and expertly conveyed, Lauren. I feel these words in my core. I don’t fit in anywhere after all these years…except when I step off the path and let the forest envelop me. Shinrin-yoku is the Japanese practice of “forest bathing,” where one “makes contact with and takes in the atmosphere of the forest.” It’s a form of therapy where one simply spends time in nature and experience the healing of nature’s silent peace. I grew up on a farm that had a lot of wooded areas and I loved exploring in the trees. During my nature photography years, the forest was a magical place where I really felt as though I finally belonged. I have a poem titled “Shinrin-yoku” on m blog if you’re interested in checking it out. Your poetry is gorgeous, my friend. 🙂

    1. Hi Mike, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I’ve heard of forest bathing before and I will definitely check out your poem. There is just something magical about being in the forest, spending time in nature. We feel the calm each time we go camping or backpacking. It’s never the same, but in a good way. The contact as you say shifts with each new visit, but it’s always so soothing. Sometimes we bring a radio to listen to softly, but last trip we forgot. And while we sat at the picnic table or on our chairs, we simply enjoyed the silence, reading or writing or just taking it all in. It was so nice. When we hike or swim in the lake is when the silence envelopes us, allowing us to simply be. I love the idea of living on a farm. I’m sure you have wonderful memories of exploring in the wooded areas. Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m glad this poem resonated, and I hope you and I can get back out in nature very soon. Sending hugs, my friend.
