A Valentine’s Day Wish

valentines-day tree

Candy hearts that say Be Mine
Red roses that mean forever
Fancy dinners for two in love
A night to spend together

But what about the lonely –
The broken hearts and souls?
What about the hopeless
Where life has taken its toll?

For even couples can show kindness
To those who feel unloved
Their lives are full of desolation
They long for a simple, friendly hug

So on this day where hearts abound
Give love where you find sadness
Then all of us can celebrate with
Rich emotions of gladness

    1. Thanks, Betty. I do think of my husband and family first, but then all of those lonely and lost people come to mind and my heart aches. Then the shooting yesterday…I didn’t hear details until my son called to say hello and tell us that he loves us after hearing about it. He told me how many lost their lives, and then I was torn between extreme sadness and joy. I did the same, and said prayers for those affected, for what it’s worth. It has reached the point where one feels helpless in these circumstances. Hugs to you, and I hope you had a nice evening…❣❣❣

  1. Lauren, I’m late coming to this post but hope you had a lovely and special Valentine’s. Your poem is beautiful and such wonderful sentiment. In Sweden, Valentine’s is known as ‘All Heart’s Day’ and thus a celebration for friends and family and not just couples.

    1. I appreciate anytime you can pop over, Annika. Thanks also for your kind words. It sounds like my poem ties in with your celebration meaning, too. I had a lovely evening, but got sick on the weekend from stomach flu. 😦
Hope yours was special, also. 💗

    1. Hi Sarah, I’m so sorry for the late reply. I had a nice, quiet evening with my hubby. I think we’re getting old because we’d rather avoid the crowds and stay in on these “holidays.” 🙂 And yes, what the world needs now is love and more love…🎶🎵❤💗
Sending love and hugs to you! xo

      1. Thanks, and you are too kind! I’m feeling older and older, so it’s funny that you wrote that. Unfortunately, I have no hints, thank you SO much, Indira. Just enjoy life to the best of your ability, but treat your body kindly, too. xoxo

      2. Well, thank you, but honestly, I’m dealing with a new chronic eye condition that doesn’t allow eye makeup anymore. It’s not a big deal, but as I age, a little mascara would still be nice. So, to me, that makes me feel like I look older. I wear very little makeup now, but on flip side, it’s liberating and quite easy to manage. 🙂 You are only a few years older than my sisters, and age is relative; it’s just a number. Let’s just keep on moving forward with a smile on our faces and hope in our hearts.
By the way, I’m thinking of doing a blog post about health issues we all are dealing with, both big or small. Friends can comment as personally or not, whatever they feel comfortable with. The purpose would be to show that whatever we’re dealing with, we’re not alone. Everyone has something, whether it’s a health issue or simply dealing with growing older and how our bodies change along the way. I’m still not sure, but it’s an idea that’s stirring. 🙂 Sending hugs your way, and wishing you a wonderful weekend!

      3. I would love that, please do that. Age is a number but wear and tear, though a natural process, effects some badly. My husband 3 years older than me looks 10 years younger than me. It’s heredity helping him. I just wonder why women only suffer from, sagging, wrinkles, cal.deficiency more than males. But what to do except put a smile and move on. we learn to keep up with that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate it.

I appreciate your thoughts!
