Creepy cackles from the trees
startle their hearts as they walk
Shadows follow the echoes
as they ensue down the block
They loyally repeat to each other
it’s a night for entertainment
There’s nothing to be afraid of
as they stare down at the pavement
They know they’re not alone
many follow in their footsteps
Eager to push the door bell
but afraid of the special effects
They see goblins and witches
ghouls, pumpkins, and ghosts,
Super heroes of all different kinds
while owls hoot from their posts
Some faces seem a bit too real
one even looked like old granny
Ignore the screeches and simply focus
on taking home a load of candy

Aurora Alexander is holding a Halloween poem contest, inviting all to participate. It’s been fun reading all the wonderful entries, and the competition is tough. This is my entry, and if you’d like to check out the other poems, here is the link:

Happy Halloween!
Boo!
(and don’t eat too much candy)
Yes that time of year is upon us again. My kids loved the trick or treat events but you have to be so careful these days to see your kids are supervised for their safety. It wasn’t like that where I grew up but there are more dangers for kids these days.
When I was young, there were a few things we had to watch for in the candy, but that was it. Times were different, not as scary or violent. The same goes for when my kids were young. It’s a sad situation where fear dominates (if we let it). 🎃
Happy Halloween, Lauren.
Thanks, John! 🎃🎃🎃
i love the poem – happy halloween!
Thanks so much, Beth, and have a fun time! 🎃☺
Just loved it, and will be carving our pumpkins out we grew tomorrow.. 🙂 Happy Halloween xxxx 🎃💕🎃
Thanks, Sue, and we’re carving tonight, too, but the store grew ours. 🙂 The last few years, though, our block has been quiet, so I hope we have more trick-or-treaters this year. I still have to buy candy today also. 💗🎃
Oh the candy I have had a while,, Enjoy carving .. Finished mine now, they are in the garage awaiting the ghosts and Ghouls xx
It’s funny, I kind of forgot about the candy with other things happening like staying glued to the news about the fires. But I’ll get some, and I now have an entertaining visual of your pumpkins in the garage awaiting…🤗👻❤️
Hope those fires are no where near.. xxx LOL.. I will take a photo tomorrow of them lit up and post them prob on my garden blog.. xx ENJOY…
Sounds good; can’t wait to see them! You enjoy, too! 🤓😍
I enjoyed your poem, Lauren. I’m all for just the treats too. (Reese’s peanut butter cups, mostly. 😋 That’s what we bought and hoping to have leftovers! 😊 🎃)
Thanks, Betty! It was fun to participate and good to write something new for this Halloween. Reese’s are also a favorite of ours, along with snickers, kit kats, and butterfingers, which I still have to buy today. Leftovers are always good, too, aren’t they? 🙂 😀🎃🎃💕

Lauren Scott of Baydreamer posted a fun Halloween poem. Please enjoy and while you are at her blog, check out some of her other wonderful poems.
Aww, thanks so much, Michelle! This is so nice of you to do, and I’m glad you liked the poem. The competition is amazing, and it was fun to participate (thanks to you for advertising it). 🙂 💗🎃🎈
I’m so happy you decided to participate. Your poem is fab, as always. 😍❤🎃👻
💗💗💗
Happy Halloween, Lauren!! A fun poem for this time of year and an imaginative layout with the colours!
Thanks, Annika! It was fun to write, but I have a new one for today that was based on real-life, a little scarier, though with a happy ending. I had to add some orange and black here, too, so thank you. 🙂 Have a great day! 🎃❤
Love your Hallow-e’en poem! I’ve just sent Hera over to bring you treats! [she may have some difficulty pronouncing ‘trick or treat’ because of her missing tooth, so if you hear her say: thrick or threat’ you’ll know what it means! 😉 ] xxxxxoxoxoxoxo
Aww, thanks, Marina, and Copper will love to see Hera. You made me laugh though about her missing tooth. She’s adorable! 🎃💓🎃💓
Wombies always focus on taking home the candy!
I have no doubt, Binky! 🙂
Lovely thoughts..yes! a night for entertainment. Happy Halloween Lauren.
Thanks so much, Balroop! Yes, a night for entertainment. 🙂 I just posted a new poem though that was a little creepier, inspired by a real event (if you have time). Also, I don’t think I’m getting your notifications, missing many of bloggers I follow. So, I’ll check into that…💕
Love this! Especially the “and simply focus on taking home a load of candy” which is exactly what I always intend to do 😉 😀
Thanks so much, Sarah! It was a fun write for the occasion. 🙂 I hope you got some candy, too. We had a lot leftover because it was a slow night. 🎃☺
It was the same over here – a very slow night and now I´m feasting on the leftover candy! 😀
Such a fun read, Lauren! I didn’t have too much candy – glad you warned us – and did smile as I read the lines here 😀
Thanks, Christy! Our neighborhood was “dead” like last year, which caused us to lose the “spirit” of the evening. 😉 So, we had a lot of candy left, but we’re sharing it with others. 🙂
