Cozy Vibes

Stunning Aspens in Colorado

Sidewalks no longer sizzle
beneath summer’s intense embrace –
a sign anticipated by the leaves
with an abundance of grace.

Each year around this time,
they’re excited for the change,
like a model walks the runway,
new colors rearrange.

Shades of cranberries and squash
warmly enter stage left –
pinks and purples gladly accept
their much-needed rest.

A season that captivates when
cinnamon swirls in the air,
candles dance on mantels,
October declares, “Beware!”

Mother Nature encourages
soft sweaters and snuggling –
lights blink and wink on eaves
ambience for cuddling.

Pumpkin flavors entertain palates
in recipes galore
while on the thirty-first
carved faces frighten with gore!

So, whatever your fancy
in the midst of football and hayrides,
enjoy the fun festivities
and the blustery, cozy vibes!

Try a cookie with a haiku!

Yes, November has arrived, but I have a belated Halloween share,
and last week was a whirlwind! 👻🎉😁

These are chocolate chip cookies I baked for the spooky occasion.
So, let your spirits return to All Hallow’s Eve…
if your nerves get jittery when the sun sinks behind hills
and the wind begins to whistle
and owls screech from high in looming trees
and shadows follow you down the street...

cookies make the ghouls
vanish when the sky turns black
chocolate magic

eyes watch intently
when you indulge in first bite
taste with true caution

crossed or not, they spy
as you move around the house
beware
of cuteness

chocolate chips whisk
worries away in the wind
take one, two, or three!

I hope this post brought a smile,
and don’t forget to grab a cookie on your way out!
Have a peaceful Sunday and Happy November! 🍂🍁

October’s Miracle

The drought was relentless. Then October arrived and so did the rain, feeling like a miracle! And this poem was born…

I forgot how the sound of rain could be soothing
like the calming rhythm of classical music.

The thirst for relief had felt longer than eternity,
for the soil exhaled and my lantana sang “Hallelujah!”

Silk-thread drizzles dusted rooftops and parched hills
with the flowing grace of an unhurried waterfall.

The fascination of puddles slipped my mind,
the childlike sense of play from a hop and a splash.

And who would think the sight of cocoa-brown mud
could be so entertaining in all its messiness!

Would you believe it if I said the flowers smiled at me?
And their leaves offered a gentle wave?

Observing from my slightly opened window,
I caught a grateful sigh from the soaked earth,
and I enjoyed listening to the roots laugh in delight.

Happy October & New Goals!

Happy October! I hope you are doing well! I had to step away for a couple of weeks so I could focus on my next book of poetry. I finished the structure and compiling poems, so now I’ll continue writing to add to the manuscript. So far, the total is 66, but once the editing begins, that number will change. However, it’s not about quantity. I’ll be adding and weeding out poems as the calendar pages turn. My goal is to publish next spring, and now that you know this, I am accountable. 🙂

I look forward to reading your posts again, and I am leaving you with a haiku that you may have seen before. But whether you’re reading it for the first time or second or even third, I hope you enjoy!
Autumn is a favorite season, so here you go…
