Spillwords Press publishes “Spider on a Hand” – Gobblers by Masticadores publishes “Almost Fall-ing” & a peek into Captivating Colorado!

Dear Family and Friends,

We had a fabulous time with our son as he played tour guide, showing us incredible sights in Colorado. It was a long weekend that went by fast. But while I was offline, Manuela at Gobblers by Masticadores published “Almost Fall-ing” and this morning, Dagmara at Spillwords Press published “Spider on a Hand.” I hadn’t planned to do a post today, but I chose to combine both to honor Dagmara and Manuela’s generosity.

Thanks again to Manuela for sharing my writing each month, and to Dagmara and her team for accepting my recent submission. It is always a great honor to have my writing featured on both of these literary sites, and to be in the company of many talented authors, some of whom I consider friends in this online community.

First, here are a few photos from Colorado, and we were thrilled to see autumn’s stunning presence:

A sample haiku:

crisp mornings join late
summer afternoons to greet
fall’s cozy prelude

Spider on a Hand

Trust doesn’t come easily.
She can’t be bought
like dropping quarters
in a gumball machine,
and she doesn’t hand out trust
as if distributing flyers
for an open house.
It takes time and discernment,
the emotion that comes
with falling in love,
you just feel it.
You know it’s been earned –
the intuition,
a tattoo on your heart.
What happened then?
Conversations sharing pure joy,
utter anguish spilled
like oil in the sea.
Suddenly,
she’s a spider on a hand
that gets brushed off…

    1. Hi Maggie, I know! It zoomed by because we were go-go-going all the time. My son made an ambitious itinerary of sights to show us, and we went with the flow and are glad we did. Stunningly gorgeous, simply put. But most importantly, we loved our time with him. Thanks for your kind words and I’m glad you enjoyed the photos! I missed you and everyone too! Lots of hugs and love to you too, my friend. xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  1. congrats on your poems and how nice to return to this good news! I love your Colorado pictures, I’d love to go back to see the state, I’ve only visited for my recent conference and did not have time to explore, it looks lovely and so glad that you could visit your son.

    1. Thanks, Beth! I know, what a nice surprise! I’m glad you enjoyed the CO pics. You would love exploring. We went to Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Breckenridge, Lookout Mountain, spent a little time in Denver, and local sights near his apt. A lot in a little time, but it was so worth it. This was my first visit to CO. Thanks again, and I hope you get the chance to visit again too! xo

      1. You’re welcome, and yes, it seems like September is a good weather/travel month in Colorado. We have a friend there and should probably plan a visit next year. I’ve started to notice some color changes around here, and it’s beautiful.

  2. First of all congratulations on once again getting this recognition. Then I’m wondering about your note this blog cannot be used to train AI. Does that statement really make a difference? I think AI needs to be bought into line legally for harvesting all the copyrighted material from people’s blogs but wonder how you can stop the different providers from doing that with their use of AI. It’s criminal.

  3. As the old saying goes, “Trust is a must.” We had a Family Reunion in Breckenridge many years ago, and we’re heading back to Colorado (still deciding where) for our next one. One of my brothers lives in Aurora. There is no shortage of beautiful sights in Colorado.

    1. So you know how beautiful Breck is, Pete! This trip was my first to CO, and we did a lot in a short amount of time, thanks to our son. 🙂 But there is so much more to see, and we loved the fall colors. Enjoy your next trip!

  4. Lauren, your photos reflecting fall in Colorado are stunning. I love your poems, and on my way to read them in their entirety. I also have poems to be published by Spillwords later today. 🍂🧡

    1. So true, Curt. I’m glad you enjoyed these pics. The Bear Lake reflection shot is one of my faves. The colors were stunning! Thanks for also taking the time to read the rest of the poems. I appreciate it and your kind words and wishes! Happy Fall! 🍁

  5. Kudos on the double publishing credits, Lauren. Also, the images of Colorado are gorgeous. Autumn aspens and cottonwoods really light up the mountains here. Glad you had the opportunity to see the colors in person. 😊

    1. Thanks so much, Mike, for all your kind words. This was our first trip to CO and it was fabulous! Our son’s itinerary was ambitious, but we’re glad we went with the flow: Estes Park, The Stanley Hotel, Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver, Golden, and Lookout Mountain – all in 4 days. 🙂 So glad we went in Sept. to see the fall colors too. You said it well! I also waved to you when we were there! 😁

  6. Congratulations on both publications, Lauren! Your photos of Colorado are beautiful. I’m happy that your son is your tour guide. I was in Colorado Spring once for a conference but didn’t do any sightseeing.

    1. Thanks for your good wishes, Miriam, and kind words. The landscape was stunning with fall making her entrance. We had the best time with our son, so the bonus was seeing the sights. Maybe you’ll get to go again too. ❤️

  7. Colorado is beautiful, especially in the fall. We’re so glad you had a wonderful visit with your son and congratulations on the recognition you are receiving for your beautiful King Copper book. Much love to you and Matt, with hugs. Xxxx 🧡😘🧡

  8. The brush off… how poignant, Lauren! Terrific poem.

Welcome back! It sounds like you had a wonderful time, and from the pics: it looks like you had a beautiful time.

NOW – if time would just slow down!

    HUGS! 🌹🌟🌹

  9. Congratulations on both publications, Lauren; I commented separately on them. I love Colorado… have been there three times, including once a few years ago with my sweety. It’s beautiful state where we have some dear friends.

    1. Thanks so much, Steve, and for leaving comments too! I know it takes time, so I appreciate it very much! We can’t wait to see our son again and new sights in CO. My hubby hasn’t been for 40 years, and it was my first visit. Happy weekend!
