My bicycle had met its fate a while ago, so we bought a new cruiser for me. Cycling is better for my back, and in addition to using the stationary bike in the house, we now have an outdoor option. We went riding Saturday and Sunday morning in cool, perfect temps beneath cheerful sunshine. Wind in our face felt so freeing! The same feeling my husband gets when riding his motorcycles. Heading to the kids’ old elementary and high school stomping grounds was our plan. Oh, the memories! I hope you enjoy the ride, and of course, the poem I had fun writing.
Cheers to riding and writing!

Two wheels carry us
Wind in our face
Pedals in rotation
A comfortable pace

Freedom in our bones
Rolling through veins
Blue sky umbrella
Easy on the reins

Two campuses we sought
Nostalgia in our minds
Posters for council
Blooms of all kinds
Well, hi, Mr. Bear,
Looking massive as ever
Don’t mind us as we
coast by for pleasure

Cruising through corridors
Memories flow
Our children’s years learning
With smiles aglow

2010, 2015
Fun graduation days
Diplomas and celebrations
Beneath sun’s rays
Painting of murals
With colors so bright
Language of art
Beauty and delight

Quads work vigorously
Uphill we pedal
A fun ride behind us
The greatest medal!

“Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving!”
~ Albert Einstein

your copy! Enjoy an uplifting story
and message for all ages.
I just put a rack on my car so I can transport my bike to the next big town and ride the trails there. Nice looking bikes!!!
A rack is next on our list too, Ernie! That’s great and thank you! ☺️
They have an excellent one for two bikes at Harbor Freight for $40. It is secure and folds away so I can access my hatch easily too.
Great to know, Ernie! We have a Harbor Freight near us. Thanks!
What lovely exercise.
Thanks, Jacqui! It’s been fun and something new for us to do together. 😁
Lovely, Lauren. It passes so quickly. At the time it feels like our children will be little for ever but 18 years out of our lives is really so short 💖
So true, Robbie, and thank you! Our daughter is 33 and our son will turn 30 in two weeks. We’re feeling a bit older! 😂💕
My oldest son is 21 and the younger 19. Time sure passes quickly.
❤️
Lovely poem and outing of memories tucked in your heart! Keep spinning the weather is glorious! 💕
Thanks so much, Cindy, and you’re right about the weather! We’ve enjoyed our patio each evening and wish the summer would be as glorious and comfortable. 🙂 💖
You’re so very welcome! Strike while irons hot so to speak!!! 💕
😍
This looks like a great bicycle ride. I love the poem that came out of it.
2 fun rides, Darlene, and thanks about the poem. I had to write something. 🙂
Past and present merge beautifully in these reflections, Lauren. Enjoy the spring!
Thanks for your lovely words, Balroop. We’re enjoying this perfect spring weather, but we dread the heat of summer. 🥰
I have been thinking of putting air in my bicycle tires and riding again. It’s been about three years. I ended up with a bout of vertigo and stopped riding. You’re motivating me. I love your poem and your kids graduation dates are similar to mine. 2014 and 2011.
I’m happy to inspire, Elizabeth. It’s been years since I’ve ridden, so I was even a little wobbly at first. 🙂 It’s been fun though, and there are other places we’d like to ride. But we don’t want to ride on busy streets; no trust in the drivers, so the last thing we need to buy is a rack. I hope you get to ride again, and cool about our kids grad. dates. 🥰
We have lots of cyclists where we live, but they are riding on the side of two roads where cars go 60 MPH! The bike lane is maybe one to two feet at the widest. I may ride on the sidewalk along the nature’s preserve! It is cool that we are in the same phase of parenting.
It’s the same around here, which is why we ride early in the morning where there are less cars. We see some cyclists ride on the back country roads without a bike lane and it’s insane. They have too much trust in the drivers. I agree; it is cool that we’re in the same phase of parenting. Our son will turn 30 in 3 weeks and our daughter is 33. Boy, do we feel older! Older not old though. 🙂
Exactly! Older but not old! I am feeling the need to visit my kids more often. They have few times with their careers to spend time with us.
We sure sound like we’re in a similar boat. Our son is coming out from CO in 2 weeks and he’ll be here for 3 weeks. It’s during his birthday, so he’ll see some friends and we can celebrate with him. He works remotely so has more flexibility. Can’t wait! Our daughter and hubby live in TN. and their jobs aren’t as flexible. We saw them over the holidays last year and will see them again in the fall and during the holidays this year. I wish we all lived closer. I can’t dwell on it too much or I’ll break down. 🙂
Enjoy your time with your son. My kids are so busy with work that they have little time to visit us. I need to fly up to the Bay Area and make time to be with them. I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately.
Thanks, and where in the Bay Area again?
Berkeley.
That’s not far from where I live, so if you’d like to meet up when you visit, let me know. It would be fun. But I know you’ll be busy with family too, so if it doesn’t work out, no worries. My email is baydreamer25@gmail.com just in case. 🙂
I’m planning on visiting in the Fall. I think it would be fun to meet up.
The fall is a great time when the weather is better. Okay, sounds good. 🙂
My kids always tell me fall has great weather. We’ll be in Santa Barbara until mid September, so I’m thinking October.
I love fall weather and dread the hot summer. We don’t have a/c, so it’s getting hotter and hotter inside. Anyway, it would be fun, so I’ll keep it mind.
I’ll let you know when I have dates. My daughter lives near 4th Street Berkeley which is a nice place to meet for coffee or lunch.
Sounds good. Even though Berkeley is close, I’ve never been there, but I’ll find it. 🙂
👍🏼
A cycle through nostalgia Lauren 🤗
So lovely.
Thank you for sharing your lovely photographs and beautiful poem ❤️🙏❤️
I love that, Maggie! “A cycle through nostalgia” That would have made a great title. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the ride! Hugs and lots of love coming your way. 💞🥰🚲
Absolutely Lauren 🤗
Hugs and much love back to you dear friend ❤️🥰🌻🙏
💕🦋💕🦋💕
What a delightful way to spend a morning. The school you visited was lovely. Your children were fortunate to attend such a nice school. The play yard was amazing! As were the murals on the inner corridors.
Thanks, Violet! We went for early rides Sat. and Sun. morning, and hope to do many if the weather is good. A fun and great way to start the day. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. There were more murals, but I only got the one and part of another. 🥰
The only thing missing from your bike is a little bell to beep beep the slower riders out of your way. Ha, ha. Love it. I’ve been getting back into indoor riding and it’s been helpful, but I have to get back on track. I’ve had a couple crazy weeks and need to get back on schedule.
LOL A bell! I’ve added it to the list next to a rack for the car! 🙂 I haven’t ridden in years, but we finally took the time to look for a bike and I fell in love with mine right away. 7 speeds is all I need. And it’s easy to get off track. Give yourself grace and you’ll get back on again. 🚲 Thanks, Brian!
I keep thinking about getting a road bike, but I do worry about falling flat on my face. Ha. ha. And I love your comment on grace. I always want to write about it . . . but it’s such a tough term to explain. I have to say though that I care about it more than many other virtues. It’s so meaningful when you see it in action. Glad you had fun riding. Fun times.
If I can do it without falling on my face, then you can! 😊 You should write about grace, and it will be a wonderful and profound post like all the rest. 🙌🥰
Lovely poems and photos, Lauren
Thanks so much, John! I’m glad you enjoyed the ride! 😁
Absolutely loved the poems and images. Cycling can be so fun for many.
Thanks so much, Pooja! It’s been years since I’ve ridden, so I’m getting back into the swing or ‘pedal’ of things. Oh, that was bad! 😂🥰
You’re most welcome and lol keep pedaling on you’ll get used to it in no time 😅😊
Takes me back to the days when cycling with Michigan Bicycle Touring. #goodtimes #goodfriends
I’m happy to evoke such great memories, Annette! Sounds exciting! 🥰🚴♀️
A bit of the old and the new. Nostalgia for times gone and a new bicycle to keep that body in good order
Exactly, Ian! Well said! Thank you! 🙂
Lots of fun and I enjoyed the rhythm of your piece. Last summer I was overly ambitious and kayaked with a buddy in the morning until my back said, “Enough!” After a lunch break, we rode bikes 20 miles in the afternoon. I’m not 16 anymore, but there’s still a lot of life left in this old dog.😊
Thanks, Pete! Kayaking is one thing we haven’t done but would like to. And for you to take a break and then ride for 20 miles? Wow! That’s impressive! We’re not there yet, but my FIL lived to 100 and he always used to say, “Keep moving.” So that’s what we’re trying to do. Thanks for the smile! As we get older we may have to modify activities, but whatever needs to be done as long as we can stay active in some way. 😁🚴🏼♂️
Thank you for the bike ride down memory lane! I’ve had a hankering lately to bring out the bikes.
I’m glad you enjoyed the ride, Liz, and hope you do get the bikes out soon. It’s been fun feeling like a kid again!
❤️🚲🚲
🥰🚲
Good choice for healthy exercise.
It’s been a lot of fun, Anneli! 😁
Oh…revisiting those old haunts…wind on your faces…staring down old, familiar places. It’s as if they speak to you. Thank you so much, Lauren. Beautiful pics and verse! 🥰
Well said, Vicki! Thanks for your lovely words! The rides were fun, but also special revisiting the schools. Our son will turn 30 soon and our daughter is 33, so those school days were a while ago. 😍🩷🌷📚🚲
I hear you! 😜🥰😜
😍😘🤪😎
a wonderful mix of poems and pics 🙂
Thanks, John! I’m glad you enjoyed the rides! 😃
The place is perfect for cycling indeed. It’s beautiful, the same as the poem you wrote, Lauren. I love your bikes. It’s so cute to see. Mine is stock.🤭 I can’t wait to pedal.
Thanks for your wonderful words, Hazel, and I hope you get to pedal soon! Have a great day! 🩷🌷🚲
You’re always welcome, Lauren. Yes, hopefully so soon. Stay blessed!
💞🌺
Beautiful, Lauren. Your pictures, poem, new bike, memories and the sunshine with a breeze. Just beautiful. Xxxxxx 🧡✨🧡😘🌻
Aww, thanks so much, Jane! It’s amazing just what inspires a blog post. ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed the rides and nostalgia! Hugs 🥰💕🌷
Lovely pictures and the beautiful words completely resonate. 💖✨
Thanks, Shreya! I’m so glad you enjoyed this ride, and I appreciate your lovely words. 🩷🌷
Oh I love your poems, full of enjoyment and nostalgia.
Thanks so much, Sadje! It was fun to revisit the campuses. ❤️
💕💕💕
💖🙏😍
Love this ride, Lauren! Especially, “Freedom in our bones” So glad you took us along for these beautiful places and memories!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the ride, Wynne! Thanks so much for your beautiful words! 💕
Lovely strolling with you two! 💞 Thank you for bringing us along, with photos and verse. “Freedom in our bones” 😊
I’m glad you came along with us, Michele! Thanks for your lovely words too! Cheers to “freedom in our bones” the same freedom I’m sure you feel when you’re dancing like no one is watching! 🥰💕
🥰🙏
How fun, Lauren. What a great way to exercise! 🌺💗
Thanks, Eugi! It is fun and still a way to get some exercise in! 💞🚲
Most welcome, Lauren.
🙏🥰
What a delightful way to spend the day!
Thanks, Dawn! Both mornings were fun and we can’t wait to get out and pedal again!
yes, I rode bikes once, trail bikes as recently as ten years back. THey say once you ride a bike you never lose the skill —
Great to know, John, and you’re right, you don’t forget. But I am older and it’s been years, so I had some wobbly moments at first. I’m good now though! 🙂
I think you could write a whole children’s books with the sights you see while riding your bike, Lauren. Your poem is delightful!
Another children’s book, Diana! I didn’t think of that, and there really is not enough time to give flight to every idea! 🙂 Not that I won’t try though. Thanks so much, and I’m happy you enjoyed the ride! 🥰
I did! Ha ha. I think it would be a fantastic book!
Cycling can be fun as long as you’re not on the main roads.
Definitely, Binky, and we steer clear of the busy roads!
Now this is how you spend your time! Love it!
Another fun thing to do outdoors! Thanks, Bella! xo
Absolutely!
Bike rides so much fun, a beautiful poem about your bike ride here too! I love it! ❤
Thanks Carol Anne! I’m glad you enjoyed this ride! 🥰❤️
