burdens to buoyancy

Stones of burdens can seem like pebbles
barely tripping us up in our routines,
but sometimes, they’re boulder massive,
sliding us deeply into our heads
when the need to escape

from our own selves
becomes vital for our sanity

we pause in our footsteps,
holding our breath, fighting tears
pushing as fiercely as a category five

but then our eyes look out the window
following sunlight, focusing on the frost
hanging on tips of tree branches
as though adorned by sparkling jewels

they wink at us

and those boulders shrink to pebbles
with the sweetness of air, we inhale new life
burdens we exhale, so we can breathe in miracles
surrounding us – in those who hold our hearts,
in every sight, every bloom, every sound…

How liberating to feel such buoyancy!

  1. This poem vividly captures the experience of carrying emotional burdens that range from minor nuisances to overwhelming obstacles. It portrays how sometimes, despite the weight we carry, we find solace and beauty in nature’s simplicity, which can offer a much-needed escape from our inner struggles.

  2. Beautiful Lauren, we often find so much solace in nature. As she shows us her brilliance, and fortitude through the seasons.. Helping to bring us all strength to push on through..
Much love my friend… xx Enjoy your weekend to come xx ❤

    1. Thanks so much, Kym, for your amazing words! I’m so glad my words brought hope and joy to you. I hope you have a great weekend ahead that is full of light. And cheers to boulders turning into pebbles. Hugs, my friend! 💖💖💖

  3. This really describes the concept of perspective. I know all too well those boulders that rattle around incessantly in my mind (they can be so huge!)…but I also know the subtle kiss of nature, the unexpected joy of serendipitous discoveries in the forest or the desert or on the sea shore or even while gazing out the window. You’ve tapped into a vital truth here, Lauren. Sometimes all we need is to renew our perspective, thus gaining clarity. Life is so much easier when we have clarity and can see things for what they really are–the sun begins to shine again and the sound of birds singing in the trees tells us all is not lost. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous poem with us, my friend. Your words are truly a balm for a troubled soul. 😊

    1. That’s it in a nutshell, Mike…perspective. And believe me, I need it too! The last few months for us have been a toss up of boulders and pebbles because of things out of our control, so it takes some effort on our part to gain that clarity to discover the frost on the tips of tree branches and to hear the birdsong. And breathe, don’t forget to breathe. There’s something calming about closing your eyes, letting relaxation wander down your neck and shoulders, and slowly inhaling and exhaling. I’m so glad you liked this poem, my friend. Thanks so much for your lovely words that truly warm my heart. ❤️

  4. Reminded me of the millstone that people once wore on their necks for punishment, Lauren. A heavy weight, indeed. The pebbles, I love. Such variety and such color. Makes me smile. Guaranteed to lighten one’s day.

  5. Lauren, pure magic! You’re writing is a treat, lifting my spirits. Your imagery is superb and love how the giant boulders of problems become mere pebbles as our eyes catch sight of the frost-ridden branches in the sunlight and then ‘they wink at us’! Wonderful! Inspirational, my friend and the world needs poems like this and poets as yourself! hugs, Annika xx 💕

    1. Annika, your comment is pure magic and makes me smile, lifting my spirits, my friend. Thanks so much, and I’m so glad you loved the metaphor of pebbles and boulders for our burdens in this poem. I was looking our my window one day and saw the frost on the tree branches and this poem came to be. It’s so cool when inspiration comes so quickly in moments like those. Thanks again, and hugs to you! xoxo 🩷🌷

  6. Dear Lauren,

Your wonderful words could make pebbles bounce.

    They make me bounce.

It seems you are finding some joy in the liberation you are experiencing . You know, through everything you’ve been through lately, joy has never left you.

How could it? It’s one of the things you are made of. It may have been clouded over, even somewhat buried, but it’s always there.

Now, the pebbles will become bubbles!

    1. “Your wonderful words could make pebbles bounce.” Resa, you have the most wonderful way with words! I’m not kidding! Thank you, my friend! And you’re right, joy never leaves me – she is always near, even though tough times may linger now and then.

And then you end with, “Now, the pebbles will become bubbles!” I absolutely love it, and I love bubbles! Who doesn’t? You made me smile, and another smile makes my sky bluer. Thanks again! Sending oodles of hugs your way! ❤️🫧🌷🫧💞🫧
