Realization

This is a first for me! It’s 4:00 am and I can’t sleep! A billion thoughts swirl around in my mind and I toss and turn more times than clothes in a dryer! Hubby sleeps like a baby. Go figure! The decision is made to get out of bed. Why not? If we were on the east coast, we’d be enjoying coffee already. So, Good morning! The good thing is that today is Friday, the end of the work week.

A quick foot update, I’ve been pain-free for a week now, most likely from all your love, support, and positivity. I like the sound of that, don’t you? I still kind of hold my breath each day not knowing if a jolt will come. But it’s a miracle that I’ve jotted down a zero in my pain diary for 8 days straight. I did get a second opinion, and the doctor was very nice. He actually concurred with the other doctor’s diagnosis: neuritis or plantar fasciitis. It could be from wearing unsupportive shoes (though comfy) over the years along with aging, that the heel nerve became agitated. But I think I’m on the mend (knock on wood). I hope I’m on the mend. Will the pain return? I don’t know. But I’ve made modifications, so only time will tell. And I have your suggestions for if the pain worsens. In the meantime, I’m living life, gradually getting back into my walking routine. Thanks again for ‘being there.’ πŸ™πŸ»πŸ©·

Anyway, I’m leaving you with a poem to calm your mind…

Do you need rest,
solitude for your
heart and mind?
Accept it,
don’t be shy
to admit
a fraction of you
needs only
to hear silence.

Let stillness
enfold you
in its calming
embrace
where the depths
of your thoughts
can flourish
from their
lingering state
.

  1. Oh wow! Good news Lauren. I hope the pain stays away and never returns. A lovely poem to start the day right. Have a good one.

    1. Thanks, Sadje. Every day, I’m still surprised, so I’m not getting overly confident, but I’m so grateful. I’m glad you liked the poem, too. By the way, I’m reading Mich’s book, and I love what you wrote for her and your beautiful photo. πŸ’ž

  2. I’m an early riser by nature and if I awaken even earlier than early, I generally just get up and do something, no use fighting it. glad you may have your issue figured out and glad it is getting better. love the poem

  3. Glad to hear you’re feeling better, Lauren! I hope your recovery continues apace. And what better way to begin the (early) morning than with a poem of positivity? Happy Friday, and enjoy your weekend! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks so much for your kindness and wishes, Mike. I’m not overly confident, but I’m grateful. And I hope you liked this poem. It was calming for my mind that is on overdrive right now. πŸ™‚ I wish you a good day and weekend also. πŸ™πŸ»

        Smiling back at you!!
It takes time especially if it’s planters fasciitis. I had it for a year.

  5. Wonderful news, my dear Lauren accompanied by the perfect poem!
So very happy for you, my dear friend!
    🀞: that this continues so!

    1. Thanks, Marina, for crossing your fingers and about the poem. I felt some calming was in order for this Friday, especially when my mind was anything but calm. Nothing bad, just couldn’t stop thinking about stuff. πŸ₯Ή Sending tons of love and hugs your way for a great weekend too! πŸ©·πŸ€—β˜•οΈπŸ¦‹πŸŒΉπŸ’™

  6. Had a lovely poem, dear Lauren. The good thing is it’s timeless. Timeless in that one can read it and enjoy it any time of the day. It’s night for me as I read this. It’s perfect for the close of a long day fighting windmills that were NOT IMAGINARY.
So I appreciate the loveliness of the poem.
As for your foot news. Wonderful. Painless is good. I hope it’s the start of the new recovery. Wiser. I bet a walk barefoot on a beach would help. Go barefoot in the yard sometime too, Lauren. Let earth heal you. Sending healing graces. Stay sweet. Good night.

    1. Thanks for your lovely words, Selma, and sleep well, my friend. I’m glad this poem was timely for you. We’re actually going to the beach tomorrow morning, so maybe I’ll heed your advice. Hugs and love to you! xo

  7. I am happy to read the pain is going away Lauren…i hope it won’t bother you again…and your poem is just so soothing and calming❀️

  8. That’s good that it seems to have gone away. It certainly sounds as if it’s a nerve pain. If it’s somehow healing/repairing itself, that’s great. You obviously don’t want to injure it again.

    1. Thanks, Binky, and it’s definitely nerve pain. I hope it’s gone away. I hope it was just aggravated and has healed. We shall see. I’m still careful, but also trying to walk normal, if that makes sense. πŸ™‚

  9. Beautiful words in which to bring Calm Lauren, and I am so delighted that your foot is no longer giving you pain.. Sending Love your way my friend.. Enjoy your weekend ❀ xx ❀

    1. Thanks so much, Sue. Time will tell, but for now, that nerve seems to be resting. I hope it rests forever. πŸ™‚ Sending love your way too and I’ll be over soon. I’m behind on reading blogs! Happy weekend also! πŸ€—πŸ©·β€οΈπŸŒ·

      1. You’re too funny but right, Sue. I just feel bad when I fall behind, and right now I have 50 emails to go through. That’s a lot for me. πŸ™‚ Oh well, it’s all fun! Take care! Hugs! And ‘see’ you soon! πŸ©·πŸ¦‹πŸŒ·

  10. Wishing you continued recovery Lauren. πŸ™πŸΌ I haven’t been diagnosed with what you have, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the decades of wearing stilettos’ could be a great contributor to some of my foot ailments. πŸ¦ΆπŸΌπŸ‘£πŸ¦Ώ It seems like when your feet, back and head ache, your whole body goes wacko! UGH! Love your poem too. So tranquil for a day like today. Have a joyous weekend my friend. 😎🎡😍πŸ₯‚πŸ˜˜

    1. Thanks, Kym, and I hope your foot ailments aren’t too painful. I used to wear heels back in the day. πŸ™‚ No more though. Flats or sneakers are my style, but lately, sporty Hokas have been my go-to. If they have helped because of the cushioning then I’m fine with it. Just take care of your feet. You’re right, when it comes to our feet, back and head aching, our life is truly impacted. I’m glad you liked the poem too. Stay calm, watch your step, and Happy weekend to you, dear friend. πŸ€—β€οΈπŸŽΆπŸŽ‰πŸ₯‚πŸ‘ πŸ₯ΎπŸ›ΌπŸ˜

      1. Oh girl Lauren, I simply LOVE your very appropriate summation…WATCH YOUR STEP! LOL πŸ€£πŸ‘£πŸ˜‚ I am planning on having an enjoyable weekend and you do the same my friend. Cheers! πŸ€—πŸ₯‚πŸ˜Š

    1. Thanks, Yvette! I think it’s a miracle that it’s gone away for a week. πŸ™‚ When you’re in pain, you feel like it’ll be there forever. So, we shall see, but thanks for your wishes and I’m glad you liked the poem. I’m still unsure about hiking and backpacking, but I’ll make a decision in a couple weeks. Have a great weekend! 🩷

      1. Good! We don’t because they were never needed it around here. Things have changed though. But we never think about it though until it gets hot. πŸ™‚ Now we’re looking for at least a window ac unit. Until then, we survive. πŸ™‚

      2. We had it when we lived in both Novato and Sonoma but hardly ever used it. We were gone during the day and at night the temps went to 55 usually. We used a feather down comforter all year round.

      1. Oh, I’d love to go to Maine! Our son recommends us flying to Maine then renting a car and driving down the coast, flying home from another state TBD. Maybe next year. πŸ™‚ He’s on a nomad adventure that began in Maine, and he’s heading west in the northern part of the country, and will be home for the holidays. He works remotely, so he’s working and seeing the sights. He said that we’d love the New England states. πŸ™‚

  11. Thanks for reaching out no matter the time of day.
Pain comes and goes as we go through life. Waking up with pain and stiffness is hard, I know.
Everything moves – especially energy. Tune in and if you need to take an advil – be ok with that.
Such is a long and happy life πŸ’πŸ™πŸ’ž

  12. Good news about the foot pain! I’m so glad you’re not in excessive pain any more. I hear you, when I wake up really early I like to get up and watch the morning take shape with a big cup of coffee. Loved the poem. Hugs, C

    1. Thanks, Cheryl, this was earlier than normal, but it’s good the blogging community is kind of like Las Vegas, it never sleeps. πŸ™‚ Cheers to that good cup of coffee! Thanks about the poem too! Stay cool this weekend! πŸ©·πŸ€—β˜•οΈπŸΉ

  13. I’m happy to hear that you’re pain is gone, hopefully for good. Loved the poem! I crave peace and silence . . .much easier on my graying head.

    1. Thanks, Mark! I had a good run, but yesterday, a few jolts came. Mild, so tolerable. I think because it’s nerve pain, it will either take months to completely heal, or it’ll be with me forever, and I’ll just have to be aware and rest and ice my foot now and then. There are worse things, so as you said, I’m resilient. One day at a time, always, and I’m grateful for the pain-free days. Thanks about the poem too, and I hear ya about peace and silence and gray hairs! 😁😁

  14. Yahoo! 0 = 0
Thanks for the poem. I enjoy your writing. It’s always a treat!
Sending good vibes for a great week! πŸ’–πŸ¦ΆπŸ’–

  15. Hi Lauren, I am happy to know you are doing better and I hope it continues. Did the doctor recommend orthotics? I had those for several years because my instep was to low and I also had some issues and pain.

    1. Hi Robbie, thanks for your kind words. Ironically, the pain returned over the weekend, but only a few mild jolts, fleeting and tolerable. They may come and go from here on out, or maybe the nerve will heal completely but it will take a year. No one can say for sure. So I take what comes and move through. Yes, I’ve been wearing Hoka athletic shoes for 2 months now because their sole is thicker with more cushioning. I live in them except for sleeping and showering. πŸ™‚ I also bought Superfeet inserts for other shoes, so I’ll try those out. If I have to live in tennis shoes from now on, I’ll do it if the pain hides or is mild and infrequent. Life changing, but it could be worse, so I’m grateful for the good days. I guess the orthotics made your pain go away?

    1. Well, the 8-day pain free streak ended on the weekend. But it was mild and fleeting. Thanks, Carol! I think the jolts will either be with me from now on and I’ll just have to deal with them, or the nerve could heal over time, 6 months, or even a year. Time will tell. But if they’re infrequent and mild, I won’t complain. It could be worse. I’m just taking each day as it comes and moving through. And hoping it never worsens. πŸ™‚ In the meantime, I’m grateful for every good day. Hugs!

    1. Thanks, Debby, but I’ve had a little pain since this post. It’ll either take a while to completely heal or it’ll be with me forever. But it’s infrequent and mild so far which is tolerable. I’m just grateful for the good days and feel I am making progress. Thanks about the poem too! Hugs back! πŸ’œ

    1. Thanks, Bridgette, but unfortunatley, mild pain returned over the weekend since I posted this. No one can say for sure, but I think it’ll either take a while to heal, or it’ll be my new ‘forever’ and I’ll have to live with it. So far, it’s infrequent and mild. Mild is okay. I’m grateful for the good days. Thanks regarding the poem too. ❀️

  16. This poem is as wonderful as the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel Lauren. My friend, I really love this blog post and it come attached with a poem, that is amazingπŸ”₯

Also, I am an early bird myself, by 3 or 4 am I am awake but not all the time. Lastly, nice poem about resting which is good for the mind, body and soulπŸ™πŸ’―

  17. Glad to hear that you are pain free!!! Thanks for the poem. I just started embracing my need for calm, stillness and quiet and knowing that there is nothing wrong for wanting those things.
