The Best Friend

“What a day I had at school, Bella,” Nick said to his loyal black lab cuddling against his leg. “I finally got the courage to ask Rachel to prom and she said no! I thought she liked me!”

Bella just stared at her human brother, ready to give him a big sloppy kiss on the cheek. She couldn’t help but wag her tail, hoping to get Nick in a tail-wagging mood.

“I can always count on you to cheer me up, Girl. No matter what, you won’t betray me. I guess that’s why they call you ‘Man’s best friend.’

P.S. I’m not sure if this little piece of writing qualifies as a story, but it is 99 words, and you get the message I want to convey. If you’re an animal lover, I hope this story warms your heart.

Happy Friday and weekend ahead, and for those in the U.S.,
have a safe and fun Fourth of July!
Hugs, Lauren

    1. Aww, I wish, Carol, but I appreciate your words of encouragement! Yes, our dogs show unconditional love. Lucky Girl was sweet and we miss her. My mom passed away 3 months after she did, and then we adopted Copper and he’s almost 13. My mom loved Lucky and she would’ve loved Copper. Luckily, my dad was able to meet him before he passed. ❤️

  1. Lovely 99 words story Lauren. We get the point of this special relationship!
It’s key in a world that is quite a rollercoaster at times.
Have a great weekend too! And enjoy special time with loved ones. ❤❤

I am planning to have a dog as my companion in the future as I am not going to get married forever! When you embrace nature, any living being or even the whole world could become your family.

  4. Best friend indeed, in every way! Bella is so sweet and I love your story. Needless to say how much I relate to it! Many hugs and Happy weekend and 4th, my dearest Lauren! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  5. It was always nice to come home of an evening and see that little furry face parting the curtains at front waiting for us to arrive home from work. The welcome home certainly made us feel good after a hard day at work. 🙂

    1. Their friendly, tail-wagging greetings always make us feel good, for sure, Ian. When I was young, we had Duffy, and he used to sit at the window and watch for us. He was a great dog who lived to be 16.

    1. I’m happy this story resonated with you, Don. Dogs are special family members. Our dog is lovable and quirky, but he’s definitely loyal and gives love unconditionally. Thanks for all your visits today also! I appreciate them very much!
