Scene Change, Full House, and Balloons!

Sunny California is finally sunny again with warmer temps on their way. Our son flew home on Saturday, following the end of his political science internship in DC. He wanted to be home for my birthday (Sunday), and what better gift than to have both of my children home. My excitement to see him couldn’t be put into words. Then to have the four of us together again was awesome! And the awesomeness continues for the week before he returns to college for his final quarter. Yes, then graduation in June. More celebrating! 🎉

My heart was full from all the birthday wishes from family and friends, but this year, 
I wanted a celebration with just my husband and children. It was a great family day with lots of surprises and carrot cake (my fave) to top of the day. I made my wish, so we shall see. I’m also not shy about sharing my age. I’m simply grateful to be alive to celebrate each new year.

Scene Change

Mr. Winter bows as the
curtain gently falls
His mood is melancholy
yet, he understands
Miss Spring adjusts her
petals, poised with grace,
for the welcoming applause
Hats off to her glow and
the warmth she evokes

 

I hope you’re applauding Miss Spring’s arrival, too, and I’ll end with some wise
words that you’ve probably heard before…
“Life is full of give and take. Give thanks, and take nothing for granted.“ ❤ 🌻 🌼 ❤

  10. So glad you had a happy time with your family on your birthday. Loved your description of the change of seasons. Beautiful! One of my grandchildren did time working for a top lawyer in New York as part of her college work and it looks like she has an interest in the political scene too.

  15. Happy Birthday! I’m a March baby also. When I grew up in the East Coast, I wasn’t so fond of March – still cold and wintry. But in CA, March brings forth flowers and warmth and sunshine, and it became my favorite month. This post is full of sunshine and light.

Lauren, wishing you a belated Happy Birthday!! 🎁 What a wonderful gift to be surrounded by family … your son is very handsome and looks confident in DC – is he considering a future career there? Wow, what a beautifully decorated cake – I bet there wasn’t much left! I love your poem … in the UK there is the beginning of the welcome applause of Spring but snow and deep frost still has its grip here in Sweden but it’s gloriously sunny so I don’t mind in the least. I agree, but I’m a little biased. 🙂 As far as a career, that is one option, but there are many directions he can go with his degree, so he has some deciding to do this last quarter. Yeah, the cake didn’t last long, either. 😉 I’m glad you liked my poem, too. I can just imagine how lovely it is in Sweden with the snow and sunshine. Enjoy your time with family, also.   17. I’m so happy your children were home for your birthday. There is nothing better than celebrating with family. I would choose that over celebrating with friends any day. Your poem is lovely. Spring is trying to come here, but the crazy weather keeps holding it at bay. The daffodils are coming out in bloom, but the deer ate the tulips. Looking forward to color instead of brown everywhere.     1. Thanks for your lovely words, Michelle. Sometimes we celebrate with family only, and other times, with friends. This year because my son has been away, it was nice to just have the four of us together again. Who knows where they’ll both be this year as their paths change. We, as parents, have to enjoy their company while we can. 🙂 We have a lot of deer around here, too, so we have to be conscious of what we plant in front. I love them, though, so won’t complain. They moved here before we did. 🙂 Anyway, stay warm and enjoy those daffodils; they’re so beautiful and cheerful, aren’t they? Love and hugs to you, too, dear friend…

After this weekend, my son will be back at college, finishing his last quarter and gearing up for graduation. Yay! I’m glad you liked the poem, too. It’s actually been “hot” the last couple of days.
