Sunny California is finally sunny again with warmer temps on their way. Our son flew home on Saturday, following the end of his political science internship in DC. He wanted to be home for my birthday (Sunday), and what better gift than to have both of my children home. My excitement to see him couldn’t be put into words. Then to have the four of us together again was awesome! And the awesomeness continues for the week before he returns to college for his final quarter. Yes, then graduation in June. More celebrating! π
The picture below was taken on the speaker’s balcony of the capitol.
My heart was full from all the birthday wishes from family and friends, but this year,Β
I wanted a celebration with just my husband and children. It was a great family day with lots of surprises and carrot cake (my fave) to top of the day. I made my wish, so we shall see. I’m also not shy about sharing my age. I’m simply grateful to be alive to celebrate each new year.

And with the seasons changing, I wrote a sequel to my previous poem and post,
A Cup of Spring.Β
Scene Change
Mr. Winter bows as the
curtain gently falls
His mood is melancholy
yet, he understands
Miss Spring adjusts her
petals, poised with grace,
for the welcoming applause
Hats off to her glow and
the warmth she evokes
I hope you’re applaudingΒ Miss Spring’s arrival, too, and I’ll end with some wise
words that you’ve probably heard before…
“Life is full of give and take. Give thanks, and take nothing for granted.“ β€ π» πΌ β€

Thanks so much, Balroop, for your lovely comment and wishes. Hope your days are sunny, too. π π»
Beautiful post, and Happy Belated Birthday. Awesome to have celebration with only family. God Bless
Thanks, PJ! It’s good to see you, my friend. And yes, we have big celebrations, too, but this year, I was happy with just the four of us. π Hope you’re feeling okay…β€
Happy birthday, Lauren! I agree, we shouldnβt be afraid to say our age. Iβll be 53 in July and I feel better now than when I was in my 20βs and 30βs. Lovely post!
Thanks for your lovely words, Jill. I feel good and really can’t complain. π By the way, your book just arrived! I’m currently reading another friend’s book, then I’ll begin yours. I received more books for my birthday, too, and now I wish I could read about five at one time. β€
Thanks so much for checking out my book, Lauren. I really appreciate it! I know what you mean, Iβd like to take a month off from the day job and just read…ahh. Have a wonderful Easter.β€οΈ

It really is so wonderful to have all the brood under the same roof again. Enjoy.
Thanks, Tric! I do, too. π And yes, it’s so great to have all the brood at home. I’m soaking up the enjoyment before he leaves next Monday. Thanks again! π·π»πΌ
Happy Birthday!
Thanks so much, Steve!! π
So glad you had a happy time with your family on your birthday. Loved your description of the change of seasons. Beautiful! One of my grandchildren did time working for a top lawyer in New York as part of her college work and it looks like she has an interest in the political scene too.
Thanks, Ian, it was a great celebration, and I’m enjoying the whole week while he’s home. I’m glad you liked the poem, too, and appreciate your kind words. It’s interesting to hear about your granddaughter in the same field of study. Let’s see where they end up. π
Happy Birthday!! β‘
Thanks, Audrey! I appreciate your wishes! ππ
Belated happy birthday π· and yes I applaud Miss Spring very much π
Thanks so much, and I’m sure many are happy to see Miss Spring arrive at last. π π΅π·
π definitely
Sounds as if you have a great family birthday.
It’s funny that you’re only 39 and have college aged kids!
Yes, it was great, Binky, and oh, that age thing, well, thatβs what they call new math. π
Hi I don’t know if you do blog awards but I nominated you anyway here: https://beehalton.com/11-answers-11-questions/everything
I don’t accept awards anymore, but I do appreciate the nomination. So thank you very much! β€π·
You are very welcome π
Happy Birthday! I’m a March baby also. When I grew up in the East Coast, I wasn’t so fond of March – still cold and wintry. But in CA, March brings forth flowers and warmth and sunshine, and it became my favorite month. This post is full of sunshine and light.
Thanks, Pam, and Happy birthday to you, too! Yes, spring has finally arrived, and it’s a nice change. I’m so glad you enjoyed this bright post, too. π π»πΌπ·
Lauren, wishing you a belated Happy Birthday!! π What a wonderful gift to be surrounded by family … your son is very handsome and looks confident in DC – is he considering a future career there? Wow, what a beautifully decorated cake – I bet there wasnβt much left! I love your poem … in the UK there is the beginning of the welcome applause of Spring but snow and deep frost still has its grip here in Sweden but itβs gloriously sunny so I donβt mind in the least. Hugs xxx
Thanks so much, Annika, for your birthday wishes and compliment about my son. I agree, but I’m a little biased. π As far as a career, that is one option, but there are many directions he can go with his degree, so he has some deciding to do this last quarter. Yeah, the cake didn’t last long, either. π I’m glad you liked my poem, too. I can just imagine how lovely it is in Sweden with the snow and sunshine. Enjoy your time with family, also. Hugs back to you! β€π°π
I’m so happy your children were home for your birthday. There is nothing better than celebrating with family. I would choose that over celebrating with friends any day. Your poem is lovely. Spring is trying to come here, but the crazy weather keeps holding it at bay. The daffodils are coming out in bloom, but the deer ate the tulips. Looking forward to color instead of brown everywhere. Love and hugs.
Thanks for your lovely words, Michelle. Sometimes we celebrate with family only, and other times, with friends. This year because my son has been away, it was nice to just have the four of us together again. Who knows where they’ll both be this year as their paths change. We, as parents, have to enjoy their company while we can. π We have a lot of deer around here, too, so we have to be conscious of what we plant in front. I love them, though, so won’t complain. They moved here before we did. π Anyway, stay warm and enjoy those daffodils; they’re so beautiful and cheerful, aren’t they? Love and hugs to you, too, dear friend…
Belated Happy Birthday, Lauren! ππππ
How wonderful that your children could come home for it to celebrate with you! And I have to say the goodlooks run in your family! π
I love your poem! It’s lovely to think of winter taking his leave with grace instead of threatening ‘I’ll be back!’ π Although of course he will do exactly that! π
Have a beautiful day and Happy Easter! xoxo β€
Thanks for the bday wishes, Sarah, and for the compliment, too. π It’s been a great week with both of them at home. After this weekend, my son will be back at college, finishing his last quarter and gearing up for graduation. Yay! I’m glad you liked the poem, too. It’s actually been “hot” the last couple of days. I want spring, not the hot summer just yet. π Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter, too! β€πΌπ·π°
Hope you had a lovely birthday. I love celebrations like this, good luck to your son in his final semester
I did, thanks, Charlotte, and thanks for the good luck wishes, too. Eleven weeks will fly by, Iβm sure. Have a good evening!
A good time was had by all it appears with a fresh year awaiting us.
Definitely! Thanks, Ben! πππ
