We experienced a big rain storm last weekend, watched our neighbor’s tree fall (across from our house), as we happened to be outside at the time. So we watched and ran to the house, trying not to be its landing target. With all dramatics aside, it was very surreal, and if our neighbor hadn’t of come over to warn us at the time that she did, things may have turned out tragically different. The tree literally fell about 30 seconds later!
But prior to hearing the cracks in the falling tree, we lost power, which was off for over 24 hours. We didn’t complain though. Instead, we were grateful that no one was hurt and no property was damaged. As for the power being out Saturday evening, we ate by candlelight and lanterns, read, talked, and played board games. It was actually a nice evening of disconnect from technology and reconnect with family. This “excitement” offered a new perspective to be thankful for the comforts we do have, for timing being fortunately precise when it should be, and for those public works employees who show diligence in getting life back to normal.

That was some storm, It sure scared my daughter who lives in Auburn CA.
It sure was, Ian, and Auburn isn’t far away from us either. I hope your daughter and her home is okay, too…
It was a heck of a storm. We had a number of trees come down in our area, but no one was hurt. Up in the hills a number of roads had mudslides and closures, but it could have been much worse.

Thanks, Andrew, and I’m glad no one was hurt in your area either. We need the rain, but enough is enough, especially when it starts causing mudslides and floods, etc. Now we have about four dry days and it’s great to see the sunshine.

Thanks, Scott, it was pretty unreal, to say the least. Actually, a woman about an hour from us in the same storm was hit by a falling tree and killed. So we were lucky! I’m thankful to be able to tell about it. 🙂

As to the power outage; It seems it was a good thing at the end. A moment to disconnect from technology and reconnect with family, as you say… That´s something priceless! 😀

Thanks, Aquileana! Yes, it was a miracle that none of us were hurt and our cars were fine. Luckily, it fell at an angle and didn’t touch our neighbor’s house either. If it had fallen straight across, we would’ve been hit and our cars/carport would’ve been crushed. It was all in the timing, which is profound because most things in life occur and timing is key. 🙂 The power outage was fine; we’re campers, so we had all the necessary stuff to get through it. You just never know what might happen. Like you said, it was very fortunate that it didn’t turn out much worse. I’m glad you and everyone else is fine, and that only property was damaged.
Thanks Binky, and actually no property was damaged either. So our neighbors house and our house and cars made it through without a scratch. 😊 It’s nice to have some sunshine to dry out things for a few days now, too.
