You’ve drawn the line
and I can feel reality as
barbed wire pierces my
heart and blood stains
my outlook on us. It would
have been nice to see
more deeply into each
other’s worlds. I was living
in the clouds not seeing
this sketched out.
So for now,
I’ll continue walking
through fields
of what could have been

“The fields of what could have been” sums it up. Regret is such a harsh thing to live with. Beautiful poem, Lauren.

Aww, thank you, Aquileana, for your lovely words and wishing you a wonderful weekend! Hugs! ♥
This is lovely Lauren. How very easy it seems to live with our heads in the clouds. Regret is a part of life it seems. 😊❤️ Xx
Thanks, Chris, and it is definitely easy to live with our heads in the clouds. This is one poem in the “unsure of posting” category but again, I went with it. 🙂 Hope you are feeling brighter and have a lovely weekend! Hugs and blessings! xoxo

You too! ♡
Not all dreams come true
Nor is this necessarily a bad thing
We imagine much but know very little
If anything at all, truth to tell
Well said, Ben, thank you for adding this to the mix. 🙂
The uncertainties and unpleasant surprises are worst kept secrets of life, and when they come they come in loads, and it is then that we check our tenacity and intensity to fight it out and protect our life and extent our living…
So beautiful conceptualized and wonderfully presented…lineation, love it.
😀
Hi Nihar,
Thank you so much for your most insightful thoughts, which I agree with and for your complements, too. I appreciate your visit! 🙂
My pleasure and it was indeed lovely thoughts…
😀
“Fields of what could have been?” Apart from learning from experiences it’s not a good thing to dwell on the past and let failure or lost opportunities intrude on the present.
You are so right, Ian, and for some reason that line just stuck with me…it’s all fiction, though, which is good. 🙂
Sad but lovely poem Lauren
I too have lingered in the fields of what could have been.
It does no good to the emotions of the heart.
There are brighter and better pastures Lauren.
I hope you find yours.
Thanks so much, Ian, and just so you know, this is completely fiction. Many of my melancholy poems are derived from the past (zillions of years ago). 🙂 I do agree with what you said though…have a wonderful week!
Your poetry is always so deep in its perception of feelings Lauren… Amazing as always xxx
Aww, thanks, Sue, I appreciate your kind words…have a wonderful week, my friend…hugs and blessings..
This really felt close to home for me Lauren, on years of estrangement to my youngest son. As your closing line expresses, my only remaining questions are on what could have been. Hard to read this but as always your words touch heart, mind and soul in profound, deeply relatable ways.
I’m so sorry to hear about your estrangement with your son, Don, but I appreciate your kind words about my poem. I know, some poems hit home and they’re not always happy emotions..take care…
