Spillwords Press publishes “Spider on a Hand” – Gobblers by Masticadores publishes “Almost Fall-ing” & a peek into Captivating Colorado!

Dear Family and Friends,

We had a fabulous time with our son as he played tour guide, showing us incredible sights in Colorado. It was a long weekend that went by fast. But while I was offline, Manuela at Gobblers by Masticadores published “Almost Fall-ing” and this morning, Dagmara at Spillwords Press published “Spider on a Hand.” I hadn’t planned to do a post today, but I chose to combine both to honor Dagmara and Manuela’s generosity.

Thanks again to Manuela for sharing my writing each month, and to Dagmara and her team for accepting my recent submission. It is always a great honor to have my writing featured on both of these literary sites, and to be in the company of many talented authors, some of whom I consider friends in this online community.

First, here are a few photos from Colorado, and we were thrilled to see autumn’s stunning presence:

Spider on a Hand

Trust doesnโ€™t come easily.
She canโ€™t be bought
like dropping quarters
in a gumball machine,
and she doesnโ€™t hand out trust
as if distributing flyers
for an open house.
It takes time and discernment,
the emotion that comes
with falling in love,
you just feel it.
You know itโ€™s been earned โ€“
the intuition,
a tattoo on your heart.
What happened then?
Conversations sharing pure joy,
utter anguish spilled
like oil in the sea.
Suddenly,
sheโ€™s a spider on a hand
that gets brushed off…

Leaving on a jet plane…

Dear Friends,

Matt and I are flying out tomorrow to visit our son, so I’ll be offline until sometime next week. Visiting our daughter and son is by far the best vacation. I don’t like missing posts, but there are times like this that it’s unavoidable. Please know that I appreciate you and your wonderful support throughout my Copper journey, and blogging journey, in general. WordPress tells me it’s been 15 years! But that’ll be another post! ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, stay safe, and keep your creativity flowing. I’ve turned off comments, but I’ll see you next week!

I thought it would be nice to leave you with a few calming visuals…

Nature’s TV – Friday’s Poetry

These are photos from past lake camping & backpacking trips. Beauty at its best, don’t you agree? We plan to get back to the lake next summer, but we had to pass this year because our favorite campground is being renovated. Poetic thoughts spill out from things I see, emotions, events, family, and nature. Nature always inspires.
So, won’t you join me at the lake? Have a seat, sip something cold, and simply ‘be.’

Nature’s TV

A moment to reflect
lake glimmers

in sunshine’s embrace
ripples shimmy across surface
dragonflies soar like mini gliders

feathered friends paddle away
after a brief “hello”
muscles and mind feel gratitude

no screen of any size
only Nature’s TV

I hope you enjoyed your time at the lake. Thank you for joining me!
Happy Friday, and I wish you a tranquil weekend. ๐Ÿ’š

Saturday Serenity

Under the redwoods,
we slide into a zen-like state –
letting the magic flow gently
into our presence
bringing inner peace
to mind, heart, and soul.

“One can never get enough of redwood charm to fill the need for harmony within oneself.”

Dad’s Day with the Redwoods

Matt and I had a great time at our favorite park among the redwoods following a video chat with the kids. They’re always so thoughtful and we missed not celebrating his day with them, but we made the best of it. He secured our bikes on the back of our Honda Pilot, we stopped for a deli lunch to bring with us, then we drove into the park. The experience is magical no matter how many times we’ve visited – like venturing into a whole new world. We went for a ride first, enjoyed our lunch, then rode again, riding close to eight miles. It was so much fun! I’m sharing some scenery photos and will turn comments off because I’m working on the final stages of my Copper book, wrapping up a few book reviews, while also reading blogs. So, I hope you enjoy!

Father’s Day Weekend Tribute โค๏ธ

This post honors all loving fathers who do their best ‘to be the best’ for their children. To begin with, for my husband, our fathers who have passed and are missed more than I can express in words, and to my brothers-in-law…The poem below was written about my husband, Matt, from my poetry collection, Ever So Gently.

Beneath the Big Golden Sun

He was their hero when they were young,
teaching of nature beneath the big golden sun.
They tried on their packs before feet hit the trail.
Heโ€™d say, โ€œBe prepared or else you could fail.โ€

The trio trekked down paths and up inclines too,
pausing along the way to admire a flower or two.
After arriving in camp, they helped pitch the tent,
stakes in the ground, windows unzipped to vent.

As an Arborist, he educated them about trees
under the blue sky beside the buzzing honeybees.
They explored the ground seeking burrowing bugs.
He expressed praise with words and loving hugs.

When the sun faded at the end of a day,
they roasted marshmallows, found dominoes to play.
His first goal was fun in nature, then came self-reliance.
Their minds were like sponges, soaking up the science.

Now they reminisce for the best teacher he was
and recall the bonding with the deepest of love.
Now heโ€™s proud of them, adulting and doing it well,
honored with the memories, the special stories to tell.

A younger FIL, who taught his son (Matt) about hiking and the great outdoors.
A fave of hubby and my dad after Mom passed.

By the way, DNA doesn’t make a good father. Actions Speak Louder than words, as we’ve heard before. A biologically connected man who neglects his children isn’t a good dad. A great father is a man who is emotionally available and actively involved in a child’s life.

Layers – haiku

(a)

we gaze in wonder
textures and hues entertain
in nature’s artwork

(b)

emotions layered
piled on top of each other
leapfrogging through heart

(c)

devoid of blossoms
beauty in its own manner
eyes appreciate

On a bike ride over the weekend, I had to take a photo of this beautiful cactus. I hope you enjoy my Monday haiku musings. Wishing you a fab week ahead, and thanks for stopping by. โ™ฅ๏ธ
