Preoccupation

A few hours of solid
sleep was better than
nothing before the body
awoke and shifted into
high gear with a reeling
mind too active for
three in the morning

Those thoughts wouldn’t
rest until the clock read
an hour later, after battling
the tossing and turning
and consistent whirling

Then it was time to step
out of the routine and
into an adventure that
didn’t even own a spot
on the bucket list

Awakening

She rose with languid movements
and when the sun greeted her
through billowing curtains
she recalled the dream
that rocked her through the night,
a dream that didn’t become
broken pieces of wishes,
a dream that remained,
sensations that were felt,
yet confusion ran through her veins
even though vivid images played
again and again in her mind,
images that were whole
and so she wondered

Connections

I pondered long and hard for the answer
wondering, wavering of emotions inside
How relative time has been in this journey
this crazy, happy, emotional ride

The voices unheard, yet heard of so clearly
in universal languages for all to hear
The faces unseen, yet seen in tiny glimpses
of those who opened their windows for air

How thoughtful the praise each time I read
How warm my hopeful heart became
How humble it felt from deep within
How grateful my soul will surely remain
