Sweet November

A tall cedar pitches its pods
onto the smooth driveway,
footsteps crunch on fallen foliage

a broom sweeps, piles grow
for hoisting into the bin

but the tall cedar pitches again
oh, this lovely season!

the air turns crisp for layering,
wiping sweat away
from summer’s fever,
raindrops soothe flaccid petals

early evenings surrender
to nightfall,
but set out the candles!
Play Sinatra on vinyl
and sink into coziness

Will you remember
this sweet November?

  1. Beautiful, Lauren! Our weather has been hot and dry, and November promises more of the same unless something changes drastically. But it’s nice to sit on the porch after dark and look at the stars in the clear night sky!

  2. Sounds cozy to me Lauren. Sinatra and candles. Possibly the wind whipping away outside, the tall cedar covering the ground with its needles. Again. Maybe a fireplace. And somehow, floating into my mind came “Try to remember those days in September.” Not November, but…

  3. Ohhhh….such a mood. Such a vibe! Love the whole poem but these words especially — so perfect as we tinker with the clocks this weekend:
    …”early evenings surrender
    to nightfall…”
    Thank you, dear Lauren! 💝😊💝

    1. Thanks for leaving such a beautiful comment, Vicki! I love this time of year and thought sharing this poem again would be perfect for the first day of November. Wishing you and your family a cozy season. Hugs 🥰🍁🧡

  4. The lovely way you describe it, Lauren, November does feel cozy and inviting, and it almost sweeps me away to December’s moments indoors during the holidays. But for now there still are the leaves and the crisp late autumn air… and I loved how you described them in the first part of the poem, the cedar pods and the fallen leaves. 🍂 A serene and beautiful November poem! 💕

    1. Your comments are always so beautiful and thoughtful, Nicole. I always appreciate your feedback and support. And I’m glad you enjoyed this poem. This is my favorite time of year. Have a wonderful week. 🧡🍁🧡

  5. I love this time of year. November may be my favorite month. We’re on our way to spend ten days with our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson at the end of the week. Here’s hoping the flights all go.

  6. Ah such a lovely poem for the season Lauren 🧡 – sweet and cosy. We can even see the colors of the trees and feel the warmth of the fire in the living room. Have a wonderful month of november 🍁
